7 TIPS FOR A

TAIL-WAGGING STAY IN SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN

Here are a few ways to make your visit safer, healthier and more enjoyable for your animal and other visitors. Please:

1. Make sure your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations. With so many places to visit, your pet will likely encounter other people and their animals. We want all of our four-legged friends to stay healthy.

2. Keep your pet close with a six-foot or shorter leash. The one exception is our designated leash-free dog parks. There, you are expected to be in control of your pet at all times.

3. NEVER leave your pet in a vehicle during warm temperatures.

4. Clean up after your pet. You will find free pet waste bags in marked dispensers throughout downtown St. Joseph, Lake Bluff Park, the John and Dede Howard Family Recreational Trail and in other communities.

5. There are doggy drinking fountains located in our parks and beaches. On hot days especially, carry water and a bowl to keep your pet hydrated.

6. Heed all posted warnings and flags along the shorelines and beaches — high waves, rip currents and undertows are unsafe for pets and their people.

7. Look for the pet-friendly decals at the entrance to area businesses to tell at a glance where your pet is welcome.
