NIC NOTES
Dear Parishioners,
I remember receiving a text message from a priest friend of mine several years ago. He mentioned an article about Blue Bell in the Philadelphia Inquirer Real Estate section. As I read the article late Sunday afternoon, I thought to myself, “What a nice article!”
However, there were several things that were not brought out in that article, and it was not as cor-rect as it could be. One of them would be that the reporter did not even mention St. Helena Parish, which is in the heart of Blue Bell. And in many ways, I believe, it is the heart of Blue Bell. From our wonderful Parish, there are many wonderful things happening that reach out into the commu-nity of Blue Bell. I truly do believe that we are an entity that adds much to this community.
The article mentioned some of the pharmaceutical companies and other businesses in Blue Bell that make the taxes as reasonable as they are, but the reporter forgot to mention St. Helena School, which saves the taxpayers a great deal of money. With about 540 students, at the cost of about $17,000 per student to educate, taxes would be a lot higher. It was nice to see an article about Blue Bell in the local paper. It would have been nicer to see them mention one of the great reasons why Blue Bell is a wonderful place to live –St. Helena Church.
It is almost impossible to believe that Labor Day will be here on Monday. Growing up, we always looked upon Labor Day as the end of the summer. Nowadays, some schools begin before Labor Day. Be it whatever it is, I guess summer is offi-cially over.
As the summer ends, many wonderful things will be happening in our parish. We will be celebrat-ing 40 Hours in the beginning of October on Sun-day, October 8; Monday, October 9; and Tuesday, October 10.
On the weekend of Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, we will be celebrating our 98th anniversary of the founding of St. Helena Parish and the 13th anniversary of the Dedication of our Church. All in all, I believe, it'll be a won-derful start to a wonderful year. Once again, I wish to thank all of our parishion-ers for their wonderful participation and support of our wonderful parish. May God through the intercession of St. Helena bless us! Love and Prayers,
Msgr. Nicolo

CATHE’S CORNER
This year, our academic priority will be STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). This is the second year for our STEM incentive. To help us with this pro-cess at our August Faculty In-service, which was held on Monday, August 24, 2017, we were fortunate to have as our presenter, Ms. Stephanie Schwab, who works with Montgomery County IU. Stephanie presented to us last year and continued to work with our teachers throughout this past year to implement STEM. This year, she will take us to the NEXT LEVEL of STEM involvement! We are also implementing a new K – 6 Reading Pro-gram and a 7 – 8 Social Studies Program. The com-bined cost of these two programs is $65,000.00. We are grateful for Acts 90 and 195, which allow us to receive state funds for textbooks; otherwise, these new programs would be an impossibility for our non-public schools. The money earned from our May Fair will provide on-going education and materials for STEM. The May Fair is sponsored and executed through our Home and School Association. Our Home and School is active, generous, and ever so viable! They create events to ful-fill our dreams to make SHS the leading educational institution that it is. To our Home and School Board, we offer our profound thanks!
Have a great week!
Sister Cathe Community Service Corp (CSC) Commitee Will be having its first planning meeting on
Sunday, September 10
We meet at Panera Bread in East Norriton after the 9 AM Mass, typically around 10:15.We have breakfast while plan-ning our monthly activities.
Let me tell you a little bit about CSC.
Children in Grades 5-8 meet once a month to do a community outreach project. We have made peanut butter and jelly sand-wiches for The Patrician Society. We have made Halloween treat bags for children who can’t trick or treat in their own neighborhood. We have made “plarn,” plastic yarn for sleep-ing mats for the homeless. The list goes on. It is incredible that just meeting once a month can make such a big impact on our community. The planning committee meets once a month, typically 2 weeks before the activity. We organize the details of the meet-ing and have fun. It is a great way to give back to our commu-nity without giving up a lot of your time. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for working parents. If you have any questions, please email me, Susan Hughes, at [email protected]. We would love to have more volunteers on our committee. If you are interested in volunteering, come to Panera on the 10th!

Ignatian Spirituality for Women St. Ignatius sought to develop his relationship with God by con-
sciously noticing the movements within his soul. He paid atten-tion to the thoughts, emotions, imaginings, and desires that surfaced in his prayer and daily life. He noted that some of them lead to a sense of peace, to interior freedom, creativity, and gratitude. They brought him profound peace. Other thoughts, emotions, imaginings, and desires led to agitation, turmoil, and a loss of faith, hope, and love. Ignatius called the process of learning and sorting these interior movements, discernment. Please join us on Thursday evenings from September 21 to October 12 in the Teachers’ Lounge of the Education Center from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Our time together will include prayer, instruction, conversation, and refreshments. Please contact Carol Jensen at [email protected] or 610-513-1545 for more information.

HELP US KEEP ST. HELENA BEAUTIFUL BY ADOPTING A GARDEN!
The Garden Club maintains various flower beds on the Church campus grounds. We are asking for your help in keeping our gardens looking beautiful. Maybe a family or a Church ministry group could adopt one of the gardens to upkeep during the spring, summer, and fall months. We are asking that the gardens are weed-ed weekly or as needed. Andrea Caperilla will be watering all the areas where there is not a watering system. The areas in blue print below need to be adopted:
Two Large Plots in Front of Church Front and Side of Bell Tower Right Side of Church including area near steps—Diane Murasky Blessed Mother Statue—Diane Murasky Stations - Cynthia Gantz Wayside Garden near Stations Garden by Transformer across from Stations Island in front of Empress Room Front of Empress Room Eight Urns at Church and 2 Urns at Chapel – Andrea Caperilla Front and Side of Information Center Left Side of Church including Hydrangea Garden Row of Holly Bushes between Church and Chapel
Gardenia Garden on side of Chapel Azalea Garden on top of Grotto Lower Left Side of Church near Grotto St. Joseph Statue – Mike Pelone St. Francis Garden – Cheri Bacino Pond in Front of Rectory – Cheri Bacino Front of Rectory – Cheri Bacino St. Helena Statue & Plot behind statue—Mariline Zorzetto St. Theresa Statue & Plot Behind Statue Hedges in Front of Rectory Father Higgins’ Grave Sacred Heart Statue – Mike Pelone Church Sign on Route 202 Eight Angels School – Front of Library School – Front Left Side School – Front Right Side School – Rhododendron Ten Urns on Lower and Upper Sides of School – Andrea Caperilla Islands in School Parking Lot Berm (Would need several people) Front of Convent Row of Crepe Myrtles near Grotto
