Dear Alumni, Parents, Families, and Friends,

Seductive Sicily, that stepping stone between Europe and Africa, bears traces of the many civilizations that have conquered her, from the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans, to the Arabs, Normans, and more. Please join us in October of 2018 to circumnavigate this stunning island aboard the legendary sailing yacht Sea Cloud. Autumn, when the heat and crowds of summer are gone, is the perfect time to discover Sicily’s pearls of antiquity aboard a four-masted barque. We are delighted that James M. Redfield, Professor Emeritus, will be leading this program. An authority on the ancient Greeks of Italy, Dr. Redfield will be joined by a curator from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, a Harvard University professor, and other distinguished experts.

Embark Sea Cloud in Valletta, Malta, and step ashore in Syracuse, once Athens’ rival in wealth and culture. Discover its well-preserved Greek and Roman theaters and visit a Baroque palazzo whose owner will welcome us for a tour. In Lipari, the archaeological museum is a must-see, and in the capital city of Palermo, an exclusive reception at the Palazzo Gangi brings the ballroom scene from Visconti’s The Leopard, filmed here, to life. From Trapani, view the Greek temple of Segesta before choosing an excursion to the medieval hilltop town of Erice or to Mazara del Vallo, home to the 2,400-year-

old Dancing Satyr, a spectacular seven-foot bronze statue. Conclude in Naples, or remain in Italy for optional postlude.

I hope you will join us on this perennially popular voyage, which was named one of 50 “Tours of a Lifetime” by National Geographic Traveler, to discover the fascinating history and spectacular beauty of Sicily.

Sincerely,

Erica Weyhe

With her billowing sails, rich mahogany and gleaming brass, the legendary Sea Cloud travels under 32,000 square feet of billowing sails trimmed by hand. The original owners of Sea Cloud, heiress

Marjorie Merriweather Post and financier E. F. Hutton, desired a craft like no other. They spared no expense to create the largest private sailing ship ever built and in 1931, Sea Cloud was launched. In the ’30s and ’40s, as she sailed the world, the four-masted beauty was host to leaders including Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Sweden’s King Gustavus V. Now carefully restored by a team of master craftspeople, this great lady continues to offer elegant quarters, fine dining, and impeccable service. Praised by the world’s most discerning travelers and travel writers, Sea Cloud receives consistent high rankings from Condé Nast Traveler. n

Praised by the world’s most discerning travelers and travel writers, Sea Cloud receives consistent high rankings from Condé Nast Traveler. n

Dear Alumni, Parents, Families, and Friends,

Seductive Sicily, that stepping stone between Europe andAfrica, bears traces of the many civilizations that have conquered her, from the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans, to the Arabs, Normans, and more. Please join us in October of 2018 to circumnavigate thisstunning island aboard the legendary sailing yacht Sea Cloud. An authority on the ancient Greeks of Italy, Dr.Redfield will be joined by a curator from The Metropolitan Museum ofArt, a Harvard University professor, and other distinguished experts.

Discover its well-preserved Greek and Roman theaters and visit a Baroque palazzowhose owner will welcome us for a tour. In Lipari, the archaeologicalmuseum is a must-see, and in the capital city of Palermo, an exclusivereception at the Palazzo Gangi brings the ballroom scene fromVisconti’s The Leopard, filmed here, to life.
