I don’t remember if it was dawn or dusk. I only remember a pas-

sage from one light to another. It was the moment in which day

meets night and viceversa, the twilight zone. I found myself pas-

sing over a huge gate as if it were a wall. I move along

the inside towards the imposing scene of a stairway

similar to a huge waterfall, the white onyx made

it airy and blinding like a full moon on a fresh

crisp night. On the top of the stairway,

three horses (cavalli) awaited me, saddled

in velour and ornated with writings on

parchment; they were showing me

the way. The horses preceed me

dancing and snorting opening the

road for me... The biggest one

had a long silver mane of hair

which he moved with regal

pride. We move on through

a corridor with many, many

rooms. The buzz of the

voices coming from the

rooms made my hearing

confused, I look around

and catch sight of the

great monk with a

Sword... leggend has

it that he is the guar-

dian of the codes.

He answers thanking

with duty and con-

trolled enthusiasm.

He looks at the

horses with compli-

city and smiles with

a sneer of concern.

Staring towards

me making my

abdomen sweat and

making me nervous.

The three horses pro-

tected me, always

close to me, only the

medium horse, which

was a female occasio-

nally ran away but then

would return. The monk

with the sword summo-

ned me to the temple in

a room completly made of

steel and slabs of glass where

the figures reflected found

a surprising depth. The monk

said to me that soon we were to

go to the foot of a large Orthodox

cathedral to reveal the mystery of

continuity. So we fly over great lakes

and the immense regions of the Urali,

even the horses were with us. Two of them,

the youngest, protected us from the chanting

of the mermaids, beautiful and bewitched who

wanted to deviate my walk together with the monk.

The large horse instead opened the way for us fighting

with the sect of the fierce. Our means of travel were bears

of the black forest trasformed in carriages and lined with soft fur of

lorilag. We arrived in the main square surrounded by walls and inside

were steep golden bell towers, we wet ourselves in a warm pond of

eels who offered their own skin for costructing comfortable beds. The

monk rested and asked me what I wanted to know. I asked him

to help me build instruments which produced traces of light -

luminous rays - which rested upon large buffalo horns...

he gave me the formula, and then there was light.

This is how Lamorac and Brunilde were born,

the creatures of the large horns. They gave

birth to six children... the Brunilde six horn.

In the meantime the horses had rested,

but time came to return to the foggy

gothic plains to bring the aspired

light which we had created.

The people of the West deman-

ded a star... called sun, which

in the Orient killed but which

in the west eminated light

and heat... Ginevra the

God of velour sister of

avalon, was our new goal

where we could rest on

the return journey.

The castle with the

hugh gate of steel ovals

awaited us. The north

breeze like a cloak of

purple silk or a dense

nectar, slid around

the high walls.. The

moon like a ball of

quartz, illuminated

the contours. The

earth perfumed of

lavander and the

stars twinkled all

around like a distant

dance, or rather, re-

mote, cheerful and

moving. Waiting for

us is the raven knight

which the leggend

says was the son of the

ancient King Baldassar-

re who had lived in Pa-

lestine. He is galant and

obsequious and when he

speaks, he often touches

his heart. I arrive, I look

at him confused and he

says to me stressed...”Wake

up, it’s ten o’clock... it’s late.

We have to go to the court of

IPE...” initials which translate in

“Impresa Per Entusiasti” (Company

for Enthusiasts). I shake myself, ...

I wake up and realise that it was all

a Day Dream. It happened just like this

that from a dream absolutely VISIONARY an

artistic project was born, which from dream is

transformed into need... A need for which industry

and ‘Made in Italy’ cannot do without, the products

are the reply to a type of public which buys exclusively a

product which creates emotion... other than for strict necessity.

S A M U E L E M A Z Z A

Non ricordo se era alba o tramonto. Ricordo solo un

passaggio da una luce all’altra. Era il momento in cui il giorno incontra la notte e

viceversa: the twilight zone. Io mi sono trovato a oltrepassare un cancello grande come una muraglia.

Mi avvio all’interno verso l’imponente scena di una scalasimile ad una grande cascata d’acqua, i bianchi onici la

rendevano eterea e abbagliante come la luna piena in una notte fresca e tersa. In cima alla scala ben tre cavalli mi attendevano

sellati di velluto e ornati di scritte su pergamena, mi indicavano la via. I cavalli mi precedono danzanti e sbruffanti aprendomi la strada... Il

piu’ grande aveva una criniera lunga e d’argento che muoveva orgoglioso e regale. Ci avviamo in un corridoio con tante, tante e poi tante stanze.

Il brusio delle voci provenienti dalle stanze rendeva il mio udito confuso, mi guardo intorno e scorgo il grande monaco con la Spada... la leggenda vuole che egli sia il custode dei codici. Risponde ringraziandomi con compito e controllato entusiasmo. Guarda i cavalli con complicita’ e sorride in un ghigno di preoccupa-zione. Verso di me sguardi che mi facevano sudare l’addome e mi rendevano nervoso. I tre cavalli mi proteggevano, sempre vicino a me, solo il cavallo medio, che era una femmina ogni tanto sfuggiva ma poi tornava. Il monaco con la spada mi convoco’ al tempio in una sala tutta d’acciaio e lastre di vetro dove le figure che vi si spec-chiavano trovavano una soprendente profondita’. Il monaco mi disse che di li a poco saremmo dovuti andare ai piedi di una grande cattedrale Ortodossa a svelare il mistero della continuita’. Cosi sorvolammo i grandi laghi e le immense regioni degli Urali, anche i cavalli erano con noi. Due di loro, i piu’ giovani, ci proteggevano da i cant i de l l e s i r e ne belle e ammalianti che volevano deviare il mio cammino insieme al monaco. Il grande cavallo invece ci apriva la strada lottando con la setta degli arcigni. Il nostro mezzo di viaggioerano orsi della foresta nera trasformati in car-rozze e foderate di morbido pelo di lorilag. Giunti nella grande piazza circondata da muri e dentro vi erano irti campanili dorati, ci bagnammo in un tiepido stagno colmo di anguille che offrivano la loro stessa pelle per costruire comidi giacigli. Il monaco si riposo’ e mi chiese che cosa desideravo conoscere. Gli chiesi di aiutarmi a costruire degli strumenti che producono tracce di luce - raggi luminosi - che poggiassero su grandi corna di bi-sonte... mi diede la formula, e luce fu. Nacquero cosi Lamorac e Brunilde, le creature dalle grandi corna. Ebbero sei figli e formarono l’Esacorno. In tale frattempo i cavalli si erano riposati, ma venne il tempo di fare ritorno nelle nebbiose pianure gotiche a portare l’agognata luce che avevamo creato. Le genti d’occidente reclamavano una stella... chiamata sole, che a Oriente uccide ma che ad Ovest irrora di luce e calore... Ginevra la Dea di velluto sorella di Avalon, era la nostra nuova meta dove riposarsi dal viaggio di ritorno. Il castello dal grande cancello di ovali d’acciaio ci attendeva. La brez-za nordica come un manto di seta viola o un nettare denso, gli scivolava intorno alle alte mura. La luna come una palla di quarzo, ne illuminava i contorni. La terra olezzava di lavanda e le stelle lucevano tutte intorno come una danza lontana, anzi remota, allegra e commovente. Ad aspettare c’e’ il cavaliere corvino che la leggenda vuole fosse figlio dell’antico Re Baldassarre vissuto in Palestina. Egli e’ galante e ossequioso e quando ti parla spesso ti tocca il cuore. Arrivo, lo guardo confuso e mi dice affannato...”Sveglia sono le dieci... e’ tardi. Dobbiamo andare alla corte di IPE...” sigla che traduce“Impresa Per Entusiasti” Mi squote, mi agito...Mi sveglio e mi accorgo che era stato un Day Dream.Cosi’ da un sogno assolutamente VISIONARIO nasce un progetto artistico, che da sogno si trasforma in bisogno... Un bisogno di cui l’industria e il Made in italy non possono fare a meno,

i prodotti sono la risposta ad un tipo di pubblico che compra esclusivamente un prodotto che lo emo-

ziona... al di la’ della stretta necessita’.

F o t o a r t i s t i d ’ I t a l i a 1 9 6 7 - 2 0 0 7 ,una mostra curata da Achille Bonito Oliva, di un gruppo multigenerazionale di importanti artisti italiani che hanno adoperato come mezzo per esprimersi anche la fotografia. Uno strumento, la fotografia, che non mette in rilievo solo “la pelle delle cose”, ma che in mano a questi artisti d’avanguardia, legati alla plurisecolare tradizione della pittura e della scultura italiana, si rivela capace di eseguire indagini in profondità. La mostra “Fotoartisti d’ Italia 1967-2007” ha così riunito le opere di diverse generazioni di artisti fornendo un’ inte-ressante panoramica storica al visitatore. Dopo Parigi a Paris Photo la mostra è stata portata da Visionnaire shop, in collaborazione con Photology, in occasio-ne dell’edizione 2008 di Arte Fiera Bologna.

“Collocata all’interno di spazi devo dire sorprendenti, non solo perché l’architettura viene dal sacro, in antica cappella, ma poi per i mobili creati da Visionnaire contenuti all’interno, che sono devo dire quasi al limite della scultura e si crea un vero e proprio corto circuito tra la fotografia che raffredda l’ espressione e questi oggetti che invece creano una sorta di inciampo, di sorpresa, di meraviglia, di emozione. È bello questo gioco anche di scambio, perché generalmente la scultura è un linguaggio adoperato dall’ artista e qui c’ è un’ oggettistica che anche se modulare, nasce da una forma assolutamente creata, non funzionale ma adatta allo sguardo.” Achille Bonito Oliva

Italian Photo Artists 1967-2007, an exhibition organised by Achille Bonito Oliva, of a multi-generational group of important Italian artists who used as a means of expression also photography. Photography, is an instrument which not only enhances “the skin of things”, but in the hands of these avant guard artists, tied to the centuries old traditions of painting and of Italian sculpture, reveals the capa-city to execute profound research. The exhibition “Italian Photo Artists 1967-2007” has therefore unified the works of various generations of artists supplying an inte-resting historical panorama to the visitor. After Paris at Paris Photo the exhibition was brought to the Visionnaire shop, in collaboration with Photology, in occasion of the 2008 edition of Art Fair Bologna.

“Placed within spaces which I must say are surprising, not only because architecture comes from the sacred, in an antique church, but because the furniture created by Visionnaire contained within, which is I must say is almost to the limit of sculpture. A sort of short circuit is created between photography, which cools the expression and these objects, which instead create a sort of stumble, of surprise, of amazement, of emotion. I like this game of exchange, because generally sculpture is a language used by the artist and here there are a series of objects which, even if modular, are born from a form absolutely created, non functional but which adapt to the view.” Achille Bonito Oliva

VISIONNAIRE PROMOTES YOUNG ARTISTS

Sono due le modalita’ con cui Visionnaire dialoga con il mondo

dell’arte contemporanea.

La prima attraverso mostre ed eventi realizzate in concomitanza

di Fiere dell’Arte internazionali e “Fotoartisti d’Italia 1967-2007”

ne è un importante esempio; in queste occasioni Visionnaire

organizza e promuove, in collaborazione con Galleristi

riconosciuti e Curatori di fama internazionale, mostre in cui i Maestri

italiani vengono selezionati ed esposti negli spazi visionnaire in

modo da creare una sorta di “corto circuito” tra arte e design.

La seconda modalita’ vede Visionnaire sponsorizzare e promuovere

nuovi talenti dando loro visibilita’. Le opere di questi artisti ven-

gono selezionate e, se in linea con il tema della collezione,

diventano parte del mondo Visionnaire: sono esposte durante

le Fiere, all’interno degli showroom Visionnaire nel mondo,

sui cataloghi, sul sito internet e possono essere acquistate.

Diversi tra quadri, oggetti ed accessori, entrano a far parte

della collezione Visionnaire e sono quindi opere d’arte

prodotte in esclusiva e personalizzate per il brand.

L’arte e il design sono due mondi inscindibili e strettamente

collegati; Visionnaire trae molta ispirazione dall’arte e dalla

cultura contemporanea in generale, due mondi che grazie al

loro fascino rendono il brand ancora più unico ed esclusivo.

The modalities are two with which Visionnaire dialogues with the

world of contemporary art.

The first through exhibitions and events realized in concomitance

with International Art Fairs, and “Italian Photo Artists 1967-2007”

is an important example; in these occasions Visionnaire organises

and promotes, in collaboration with renound Galleries and

Curators of international fame, exhibitions in which the

Italian Masters are chosen and displayed in Visionnaire spaces

so as to create a sort of “short circuit” between art and design.

The second sees Visionnaire sponsoring and promoting new

talents giving them visibility. The works of these artists are

selected and, if in line with the theme of the collection,

become part of the Visionnaire world: they are exhibited

during the fairs, within Visionnaire showrooms throughout the

world, in the catalogues, on the web-site and may be bought.

Various items such as paintings, objects and accessories, even-

tually become part of the Visionnaire collection and so are

artworks produced exclusively and personalized for the brand.

Art and design are two inseparable worlds, strictly connec-

ted; Visionnaire draws much inspiration from art and from

contemporary culture in general, two worlds which, thanks to

their charm make the brand even more unique and exclusive.

The Visionnaire showroom in Bologna is unique in it’s gender. Situated in the ex church of S. Damiano, conserving the structure complete with dome (18 metres high), apses, lateral naves and with something extraordinary: a courtyard of over 200 square metres, splendid external opening. Il 18 aprile 2008, in occasione del Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008, Luigi Cavalli e Samuele Mazza, durante un cocktail, hanno presentato alla stampa e ai clienti la location della nuova Visionnaire Design Gallery di Milano. Situato in Piazza Cavour 3, lo spazio Visionnaire si trova all’interno dell’ex cinema Cavour, a pochi metri da Via Montenapoleone,la via della moda e dello shopping più famosa ed esclusiva del mondo. Non un semplice showroom espositivo, ma un luogo suggestivo per accogliere eventi, sfilate, proiezioni e mostre d’arte. Grazie ad un’importante opera di riqualificazione, Visionnaire Design Gallery è un luogo unico che unisce innovazione e tradizione architettonica conservando anche elementi dello storico cinema milanese.

The April 18th 2008, in conjunction with the ‘Salone Internazionale del Mobile’, Ipe Cavalli will present to the press and to its customers the location where the new and exclusive “Visionnaire Design Gallery” will rise. Situated within the historical cinema Cavour, the space presents itself with an original concept signed Samuele Mazza. Not only an exposition showroom but a unique pla-ce for events, fashion shows, projections and presentations which conserve various elements and atmosphere of the historic Milanese cinema of Piazza Cavour. This event will be the occasion to present Cycas, the new “relax kitchen” by Visionnaire designed by Samuele Mazza and Alessandro La Spada, a new environment of organic form, finished with a special black lacquer with built-in electrical appliances, top in Calcutta gold marble and legs in turned steel.

- I P E , 5 0 y E A R s o f d e s i g n -1959. Per volonta’ di Pompeo e Vittorio Cavalli nasce Ipe,

acronimo di Imbottiture Prodotti Espansi, in un capannone

di 6.000 mq nelle vicinanze di Bologna.

Ma cosa erano nel 1959 i Prodotti Espansi? Erano cio’

che oggi chiamiamo Poliuretani; materiali chimici, mor-

bidi e resilienti, che permettevano di abbandonare

l’utilizzo di molle, crine, piumino ed altri, materiali

quindi che rivoluzionarono il sistema costruttivo

di divani, letti ed anche di sedili di automobili.

Ipe fu una delle primissime aziende ad adottare questo

nuovo metodo sia per i sedili delle automobili Lancia sia

per oggetti di arredo-design, sin dal suo primo prodotto

chiamato Kosmo, disegnato dal Prof. Rito Valla.

Oggi Ipe Cavalli compie 50 anni spesi tutti nell’intento

di creare, inventare, progettare sempre con coraggioso

spirito imprenditoriale; le auguriamo percio’ lunga vita e,

con una tiratina d’orecchie, diamo a questo marchio un

nuovo e significativo acronimo, IPE: Impresa Per Entusiasti.

In chiusura, e dopo mezzo secolo di storia, si impongono

alcuni ringraziamenti a chi ha collaborato rendendo

possibile un cosi’ lungo periodo di attivita’ produttiva.

Prima di tutto il pensiero va alle nostre maestranze; ai

designers tutti, ai fotografi, grafici, ai vari rappresentanti

nel mondo e a tutte le strutture produttive esterne

che aiutano a rendere piu’ completa la nostra offerta

e naturalmente al nostro instancabile STAFF interno.

1959. By will of Pompeo and Vittorio Cavalli, Ipe was born,

acronym for Imbottiture Prodotti Espansi (padding and

expansion products), in a structure of 6.000 sqm in the

vicinity of Bologna.

But what were expansion products in 1959. They were

what we call today Polyurethane; chemical materials, soft

and resilient, which permitted abandoning of the use of

springs, horse hair, wool and other materials. This there-

fore revolutionised the construction system of the sofas,

beds and also the seats of automobiles. Ipe was one of

the very first companies to adopt this new method, be it

for the seats of the automobiles, Lancia, be it for objects

of design-furnishing, from it’s first product called Kosmo,

designed by Prof. Rito Valla. Today Ipe Cavalli celebrates

50 years, all spent with the intent of creating, inventing,

projecting always with courageous entrepreneurial spirit;

and so we wish the company long life and, attribute to

this brand, a new and significant acronym, IPE: Impresa Per

Entusiasti (company for enthusiasts). And finally, after half

a century of history, some thanks are due to those whom

have collaborated with us thus making possible such a long

period of production activity. First of all our thoughts go to our

craftsmen; to all the designers, to the photographers, graphic

designers, to our various representatives in the world and to

all the external production centres which help make our offer

more complete and naturally, to our tireless internal STAFF.
