LAST DATE OF SUBMISSION: 03 Feb. 2014

Instruction:

Solve assignment on a page from sketch book. Every student has to solve only one

question from both parts. Question to be solved will depend upon the roll number. Check, table

at the end of this assignment.

PART A: Engineering Curves

Q.1 If distance of vertex from directrix is 24 mm and distance of focus from directrix is 42 mm,

draw the curve and name the curve.

Q.2 A fixed point is at 90 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P moving in

such way that its distance from the fixed point is twice its distance from the fixed straight line.

Name the curve.

Q.3 A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls on a horizontal line for a half revolution and then on a

vertical line downwards for another half revolution. Draw the curve traced out by a point P on

the circumference of the circle. Assume that the horizontal and vertical line constitute a corner.

Q.4 A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls on the outside of a directing circle of the same diameter

without slipping. Draw the curve traced by a point on the rolling circle for one revolution of

rolling circle.

Q.5 Construct a hypocycloid, taking the diameter of the generating circle and radius of directing

circle as 60 mm.

Q.6 Draw a path traced out by an end of a piece of thread when unwound to length of 150 mm

from a circle of 40 mm diameter, the thread being kept tight when it is being unwound. Name the

curve traced.

Q.7 Draw an involute of a given square of 25 mm side.

Q.8 A line rolls over a circle of 40 mm diameter without slipping. Draw the curve traced out by a

point on the line. Name the curve.

Q.9 Construct an Archimedean spiral of 1.5 revolutions given, greatest diameter 120 mm and

minimum 30 mm diameter.

Q.10 Construct an Archimedean spiral of two convolutions given the largest and shortest radii as

84 mm and 12 mm respectively.

PART B: Orthographic Projections

Q. Each figure shows pictorial (3D) view of an object. Draw front view looking in the direction

of an arrow, top view and respective side view. Give dimension to every view.
