Annual Report for the Year 2017-2018 (March 2017 to February 2018)

Respected dignitaries on the Dias, of the Dias, senior faculty members, fellow colleagues and dear

students, I am honored to present the annual report for the academic year 2017 – 2018 (March

2017 to February 2018).

We have successfully fulfills the Periodic Inspection conducted by Dental Council of India held on

March 14th & 15th and 2nd August 2018.

The department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Vishnu

Dental College has been awarded with IAOMR Best

Community Services Award 2017 by Indian Academy of

Oral Medicine & Radiology during the 29th National IAOMR

Conference – 2017 held at ITS Dental College for Dental

Sciences and Research at Ghaziabad.

Vishnu Dental College is amongst the 175 shortlisted institutes out of 3500 institutions across India

and has been selected for finals for Swachhta Ranking 2017 Higher Educational Institutions for

this year 2017.

Dr. A. V. Rama Raju, Vice-Principal, Vishnu Dental College, has received this award at New Delhi

on 14th September 2017.

Teaching & Learning

Academic progress of student’s utmost importance for any educational organization. In this

regard,

I am happy to inform you that we have moved away from didactic lectures and initiated Small

Group Teaching recently for 3rd years BDS Students and we will be doing the same for Final year

BDS Students in the coming days.

Faculty Development Programme:

Sri Vishnu Educational Society as unique initiative has established faculty development centre at

Aziz Nagar, Hyderabad as VEDIC i.e., Vishnu Educational Development and Innovation Centre in

the month of April 2016. In the year 2017, all 1st year Postgraduate and Undergraduate Students

have attended Intellectual Learning in Dental Practices (ILDP) Workshop at Hyderabad. The

feedback of the students is very impressive and they are very happy.

In addition to this, Prof. Siva Kumar Krishnan from VEDIC along with our faculty

Dr. T. Sreenivasa Bharath, Reader, Oral Pathology and Dr. N. Rajesh, Senior Lecturer, Oral

Medicine & Radiology have conducted workshop on “Inspire – Impact – Introspect Level 1” at

our campus from 3rd to 5th January 2018. 22 of our faculty have attended the workshop.

Academics:

Our students continued to excel in their academics,

We had a very good pass percentage both at the UG level in the University examinations with an

average of 91.01% in UG for the academic year 2017.

We had Twenty Six distinctions out of which are Fifteen from 1st year, Nine from 2nd year and

Two from Final year BDS for the year 2017.

Similarly, the pass percentage for the PG is 97.5% for the year 2017.

12 of our Graduate students have secured ranks in various PG entrance examinations in the year

2017 and are perusing post graduation in various dental colleges in Karnataka and Andhra

Pradesh.

Our faculty have given 52 Guest lectures at various Conferences/CDE/Workshops/Seminars this

year in Andhra Pradesh and in other states.

I am happy to inform that our Postgraduate Students, Interns and Undergraduate students have

excelled their performance at various CDE programmes, Speciality Conferences and Workshops

and secured highest positions in various segments of Papers and Poster Presentation s.

Dr. Bandaru Jaya Bharathi, BDS 2012 – 2017 batch has secured 3rd Rank in the entrance

examination for MDS Course – PG NEET MDS Examination 2018 at all India level. She

secured First Rank in South India and in Telugu States of Andhra Pradesh and

Telangana.

with Appreciation Award at “National IAOMR Conference” for

scoring the highest marks in the subject of Oral Medicine &

Radiology from Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences,

“Best Poster Award” – In celebration of World Radiology Day

on 8th November 2017 our college postgraduate students have

prepared a poster and sent to IAOMR and the same has been

presented in the 29th National IAOMR Conference.

award of IAPHD Endowment Award & Arya Publishers Endowment Award UG

Category by Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry, Lucknow on

securing 3rd Place at National level in the speciality of Public Health Dentistry

Our Director Dr. M. A. V. K. Raju has presented Books to academic achievers (Distinction in University of Examinations) of 2nd, 3rd and Final year BDS.

Research & Publications:

56 Projects – 34 PG Dissertations

28 Completed, ongoing 16, 21 submitted

53 research projects have been completed (28) other than postgraduate dissertations by faculty

and PGs in the year 2017 and 8 reports have been submitted to the Research Committee.

Dr. T. Ramesh, Professor, Oral Medicine & Radiology has

contributed a chapter for the book titled “Concise Oral

Pathology”.

A total of 53 papers by faculty and students were published in National and International journals.

Conferences/Workshops/CDE Programmes:

To update our academics CDE programmes, Workshops and Seminars were conducted in various

departments throughout the year.

9 Zonal CDE Programmes in 2017 were conducted at our college under Dr. N.T.R. University of

Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Faculty and Postgraduate students from Gitam Dental College &

Hospital, Visakhapatnam, Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, Rajahmundry and Sri Sai Dental

College, Srikakulam have also attended the same.

Academy of Continuing Education – Vishnu Dental College (ACE-VDC) Clinical Society meeting

are being conducted on second Wednesday of Every month and inter disciplinary discussions were

held in the ACE-VDC regularly. This year we have included the presentation of the completed

dissertation work by postgraduates in the ACE-VDC Programme.

5 Live Webinars have been conducted for Postgraduate students and faculty in the year 2017.

Department of Prosthodontics has organized a State level CDE

programme on “Face the Examinations” by Dr. K. Chandrasekharan

Nair, Professor Emeritus, Dr. Suresh Sajjan M.C., Principal, Professor &

Head and Dr. A. V. Rama Raju, Vice-Principal, Professor, Vishnu Dental

College were the Resource Persons and delivered lectures. 18

Postgraduate Students and 12 Faculty Members of Vishnu Dental

College and 25 Postgraduate Students & 8 Faculty Members from Gitam

Dental College & Hospital, Visakhapatnam, Sri Sai Dental College,

Srikakulam and Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, Rajahmundry have

attended the CDE on 11th March 2017 at Vishnu Dental College.

Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics has organized a State

level CDE programme on “Oral Microbiology in Dental Research” by Dr.

Kishore Bhat, MBBS, MD (Microbiology), Professor & Head, Department of

Microbiology, Director, Department of Molecular Biology and Immunology,

Maratha Mandal’s NGH Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Centre,

Belgaum is Resource Person for the programme on 17th March 2017 at

Vishnu Dental College.

Orientation Programme for 1st year BDS students & Clinical Orientation for 3rd year BDS Students

were held on 18th September 2017 and 21st August 2017.

Workshop on “Educational Science and Technology” for Teachers of

Army College of Dental Sciences, Secunderabad was held on 6th

and 7th October 2017. The team of Resource Persons from our

college comprised of Dr. C. D. Dwarakanath, Director of PG Studies,

Professor & Head, Periodontics, Dr. A. V. Rama Raju, Vice-Principal,

Professor, Prosthodontics, Dr. T. Ramesh, Professor, Oral Medicine &

Radiology and Dr. K. S. V. Ramesh, Associate Professor,

Periodontics.

Two-day Workshop on “Cochrane Systematic Reviews protocol

development” was conducted on 9th & 10th March 2018.

Mr. Richard Kirubakaran, Biostatistician, South Asian Cochrane Centre,

CMC, Vellore and Mr. Jabez Paul Barnabas E, Administrator and

Information Specialist, South Asian Cochrane Centre, Vellore have

attended as Resource Persons for the workshop. A total of 33

Postgraduate Students, 9 Faculty members from Vishnu Dental College

and One Faculty member from Sri Vishnu College of Pharmacy have

attended the workshop.

Two-day Workshop on “Lasers – A Ray of Modern Dentistry” was

organized by the department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry on 2nd

& 3rd February 2018.

Dr. M. S. Saravana Kumar, MDS, Pedodontist from Chennai was the

Resource Person for the workshop. A total of 23 Teaching faculty, 65

Postgraduate Students and 2 Interns have attended the workshop.

Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme on “Advanced Rotary

System with Thermoplastic Obturation” was organized by the

department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics on 25th January

2018.

Dr. S. Sai Kalyan was the Resource Person for the workshop. 10

Faculty members & 32 Postgraduate Students from the department of

Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics & Pedodontics have attended the

CDE.

Prof. C. D. Dwarakanath was invited as Speaker at Rajiv Gandhi

University sponsored Perio-Sameeksha Programme for PG students at

Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences, Bangalore on 17th January 2018.

About 160 final year PG students in Periodontics from all over Karnataka

attended the programme.

Clinical Orientation programmes for 3rd year undergraduates, PG Orientation programme for fresh

postgraduates and Orientation for newly admitted undergraduates are being done regularly under

the guidance of Dr. C. D. Dwarakanth sir, Director of PG Studies, Professor & Head, Department of

Periodontics.

The department of Periodontics & Implantology, Vishnu Dental College, Bhimavaram has

conducted Perio Avalokan – A Rapid Review Programme for postgraduates students of

Periodontology on 27th, 28th February & 1st March 2017. About 100 postgraduate students from

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh participated in the programme. Fourteen Senior

Resource Persons from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu gave lectures

and held panel discussions on important topics in the filed of Periodontology & Implantology. This

programme which is the only one of its kind in our state was held for the third consecutive year. All

the participants provided excellent feedback of the programme, which they said was very helpful to

prepare for the ensuring university examinations.

Community Services:

Regular camps have been conducted throughout the year in and around West Godavari district by

the Public Health Dentistry Department to provide Dental Health service to the rural areas.

90 camps have been conducted in the year 2017 and 12,009 patients were screened.

A total of 14 school dental camps have been conducted for the year 2017 by the department of

Pedodontics and 5,045 children were screened and educated for Oral Health Awareness.

Treatments have been done for 150 children of Special Care.

The department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry has conducted an Oral Health Awareness

Programme for School Teachers. Around 100 schoolteachers from 45 schools (both Government

& Private) in West Godavari District have attended the awareness programme.

We have initiated a novel mass campaigning program “ORAL HEALTH

ALLIANZ- Miles for Smiles” in the month of November, 2016. The program was

incepted to communicate and collaborate with groups and individuals on oral

health issues, to deliver personalized oral health education, appraisal of

individual’s oral health status and to promote health seeking behavior among rural

masses. These objectives were achieved through door to door visits from students

of Vishnu Dental College in the neighboring villages.

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the department of Public

Health Dentistry has organized an awareness programme. Dr. M. Veera

Swamy, Superintendent of A.P. Vaidya Vidhana Parishat Area Hospital,

Bhimavaram and Dr. D. Durgaprasad, Medical Officer had attended as

chief guests on 31st May 2017.

As a part of this, we have organized Drawing competition, Rangoli and

Theme on “Quit Tobacco – Choose Life”. NSS volunteers prepared a

Radio skit that portrays the ill effects of tobacco. On this occasion Anti-

Tobacco Cell was inaugurated by the Chief Guest.

NSS Unit and Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vishnu Dental

College organized a programme on “Depression : Lets Talk” on 7th April

2017 on the occasion of World Health Day for all undergraduate and

postgraduate students. A renowned psychiatrist Dr. R. Rama Krishnam

Raju attended as a Chief Guest and elightened the students on various

aspects of depression and how to overcome it.

As a part of World AIDS Day, we have organized an awareness programme on “AIDS” at SVES

adopted village Kovvada – Annavaram on 1st December 2017.

Externship Services:

Our college is also providing externship programmes for students to

develop practice oriented dental skills in advanced dental clinics in India.

Dr. Vinay Chandrappa, Associate Dean, Dr. K. Pradeep, Senior

Lecturer, Dr. P. V. Karteek Varma, Dr. I. Sai Lakshmi Durga, I

MDS (Topper 2011-2016 batch) and Dr. B. Jaya Bharathi, Intern

(Topper 2012-2017 batch) have visited Tufts University School of

Dental Medicine, Boston, USA from 11th September to 28th

September 2017 as a part of Externship / Observership programme

sponsored by Sri Vishnu Educational Society.

14 Interns have attended One week to Ten days externship programme in

the year 2017 at Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

We appreciate the co-operation extended by Dr. Muniratnam Naidu,

Chennai, Dr. Vijay Srinivas, Hyderabad, and Dr. A. V. Ramesh, Bangalore

towards the externship programme.

Clinical Training Programme was conducted by the department Oral &

Maxillofacial Surgery on “Surgical Extraction of 3rd Molars” at Vishnu

Dental College, Bhimavaram from 19th to 23rd February 2018.

Two Dental Practitioners, Dr. Hessa Abdulredha Almuabbad a Doctor

of Dental Surgery (DDS) graduate from Ajman University of Sciences &

Technology, Kingdom of Bahrain and Dr. Zainab Redah Hasan Ahmed

Ali Hazeem a Bachelor’s Degree of Oral and Dental Medicine and

Surgery from College of Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery, MISR

University for Science & Technology, Kingdom of Bahrain have attended

the Clinical Training Programme.

Patient Care

105 major surgeries have been performed at our surgical unit and I am happy to say that it stands

at number one position in the state amongst those colleges who are not attached to medical

college.

The comprehensive and evening clinics have been setup last year to provide fact-track treatment

for affordable paitents 4,331 have benefited so far.

Sports & Culturals:

We are happy to inform you that Dr. Abhishek, Intern, has participated “Inter Collegiate Event”

conducted by Sri Vishnu Educational Society held at Bhimavaram, 22nd December 2017 and won

2nd Prize in Solo Dance Category in the event.

Our college 11th Graduation Day has been conducted on 28th October 2017.

Prof. Dr. N. Jayasankaran, Former Director General, BIMS, Trichy and

former Vice-Chancellor of Kanchi University has been the Chief Guest for the

function and our Hon’ble Chairman Sri K. V. Vishnu Raju was the Guest of

Honour for the function.

Our students not only excel in academics but in extra and co-curricular activities.

Annual sports were conducted in the months of September &

October 2017

Our college women faculty have been celebrated International Women’s Day

on 8th March 2017. As a part of the program, Dr. M. S. Vani (Psychologist) has

given a lecture on “Stress Management” which was inspiring and motivating.

Various games were conducted in which the entire faculty participated actively

and prizes were distributed.

The department of Library & Information Sciences has

organized Library Week Celebrations from 14th to 20th

November 2017. As a part of Library Week Celebrations

they have conducted Debate, Essay Writing, Digital Library

and Rangoli competitions.

Annual day celebrations of Vishnu Dental College was held on 16th March

2017. Dr. B. H. Sripathi Rao, Former Vice-Chancellor, Yenepoya

University, and currently working as Principal at Yenepoya Dental College,

Mangalore graced the occasion as a Chief Guest. Our hon’ble Chairman

Sri K. V. Vishnu Raju sir and Dr. Kishore Bhat, MBBS, MD

(Microbiology), Professor & Head, Department of Microbiology, Director,

Department of Molecular Biology and Immunology, Maratha Mandal’s

NGH Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Centre, Belgaum were the

honours.

Dept of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, VDC

Bhimavaram in association with IACDE organized a 2 days

event CONS ENDO DAY 2018 on 5th and 6th March 2018.

Beautiful rangoli was designed at entrance of the college

welcoming the patients with warm greetings of cons endo day,

Employment Generation and Community out reach:

We have setup Seven satellite clinics in the last one year (16.07.2017 to 02.03.2018) at

Penumantra, Kalidindi, Katrenikona, Atkuru, Atreyapuram, Yedidha and Mogalturu. The objective

of establishing Seven satellite clinics is to render Oral Health Care services to the rural population

and employment generation to the Alumni of Vishnu Dental College and educated unemployed

rural people. Currently we are running 13 Satellite Clinics in West Godavari, East Godavari and

Krishna Districts.

The process of setting up of comprehensive clinics is under progress.

We have submitted our Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to National Assessment and

Accreditation Council through IQAC for the year from 2016 – 2017.

As a part of NSS Activity, the Unit has organized a special camp with the theme of “Youth and

Social Responsibility” at adopted village Kovvada – Annavaram from 5th to 11th March 2018. The

Binghamton University has visited our college.

Dr. P. Revathi, Executive Committee Member, Dental Council of India, New

Delhi has visited our college on 25th January 2018. She has sensitized all

the students regarding the consequences of Ragging.

With the constant guidance and support of our beloved Chairman, Vishnu Raju sir, Vice-Chairman

sir and our Directors, Dr. Anand Raju and Prasada Raju sir, I am sure the institute will go further. I

Respected dignitaries on the Dias, of the Dias, senior faculty members, fellow colleagues and dear

students, I am honored to present the annual report for the academic year 2015 – 2016 (October

2015 to February 2017).

I am happy to inform you that apart from the already recognized five MDS specialities for two units

by DCI three of our MDS specialities 1) Oral Medicine & Radiology, 2) Oral Pathology &

Microbiology and 3) Periodontics have been granted recognition by Government of India as

recommended by Dental Council of India and also affiliation by Dr. NTR UHS for five postgraduate

admissions for second unit in respective specialities. With this we have completed the process of

undergoing inspections and recognitions by the regulatory authorities.

Vishnu Dental College has been awarded with Dr. D. N.

Kapoor Award by International College of Dentists

(ICD) for the best Community Dentistry Project in the

country for the year. 2016.

I am happy to inform you that we have moved away from didactic lectures and initiated Small

Group Teaching recently for 2nd years and we will be doing the same to the remaining years of

students in the coming days.

Faculty Development Programme:

Sri Vishnu Educational Society as unique initiative has established faculty development centre at

Aziz Nagar, Hyderabad as VEDIC i.e., Vishnu Educational Development and Innovation Centre in

the month of April 2016. So far 46 faculty have attended various orientation programmes which

included Learning & Leading, Scientific Educational Practices, Train the Trainers, Cultivating

Research Mindset and 8 Supporting staff have attended for Ethics & Cultural Diversity and 98

students have attended for Intellectual Learning in Dental Practices.

Academics:


We had a very good pass percentage both at the UG level in the University examinations with an

average of 90.02% in UG for the academic year 2016.

We had Twenty Two distinctions out of which are Six from 1st year, Nine from 2nd year and

Seven from Final year BDS for the year 2016.

Similarly, the pass percentage for the PG is 92.50% for the year 2016.

14 of our Graduate students have secured ranks in various PG entrance examinations in the year

2016 and are perusing post graduation in various dental colleges in Karnataka and Andhra

Pradesh.

Our faculty have given 37 Guest lectures at various Conferences/CDE/Workshops/Seminars this

I am happy to inform that our Postgraduate Students, Interns and Undergraduate students have

excelled their performance at various CDE programmes, Speciality Conferences and Workshops

MCQ’s Competition in the subject of Pharmacology on 14th

February 2017. Three of our 3rd BDS Students A. Sandhya Sree,

K. Divya Sree and D. Abhilash have secured prizes in the

Dr. C. D. Dwarakanath, Director of PG Studies, Professor & Head, Periodontics has contributed

as adaptation editor for the book titled “Carranza’s Clinical Periodontology II South Asia

Edition”.

AJMVP’S New Law College, Ahmednagar has published a book on Emerging Trends on

Consumer Protection in which a paper titled “Best Interest Decision Making in Clinical

Practice Remedies” by Dr. P. Arun Bhupathi was contributed by Assistant Professor.

A total of 65 papers by faculty and students were published in National and International

journals.




Teacher Training Programme has been conducted for our college Faculty

members from 21st to 23rd April 2016. 24 Faculty members have attended the

Training Programme.

9 Zonal CDE Programmes in 2016 were conducted at our college under Dr. N.T.R. University of

Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Faculty and Postgraduate students from Gitam Dental College &

Hospital, Visakhapatnam, Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, Rajahmundry and Sri Sai Dental

College, Srikakulam have also attended the same.

Academy of Continuing Education – Vishnu Dental College (ACE-VDC) Clinical Society meeting

are being conducted on second Wednesday of Every month and inter disciplinary discussions were

held in the ACE-VDC regularly. This year we have included the presentation of the completed

dissertation work by postgraduates in the ACE-VDC Programme.

Mr. Vishnu Vardhana Rao, Biostatistian, Director, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad as a

guest faculty has conducted lectures on Biostatistics for the Postgraduate students.

has delivered a Live Webinar on “Gingival Enlargements – Diagnostics and Management” on

9th November 2016 at our college and the webinar has been telecasted live to all the dental

We have organized a workshop on Cochrane Systematic Review

Protocol Development for Faculty and postgraduate students from 20th

to 22nd December 2016. 34 faculty have enrolled and participated in

the workhop. Two Resource Persons from Cochrane South Asia Centre

chaired the sessions.

Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics has organized a CDE

programme on “Innovations for Effortless Dentistry” by Dr.

Chandramouli, Manager, Academic & Scientific Affairs, GC on 20th January

2017.

Community Services:

Regular camps have been conducted throughout the year in and around West Godavari district by

the Public Health Dentistry Department to provide Dental Health service to the rural areas.




Treatments have been done for 150 children of Special Care.

The department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry has

conducted an Oral Health Awareness Programme for School

Teachers. Around 100 schoolteachers from 45 schools (both

Government & Private) in West Godavari District have attended

the awareness programme.

The department of Public Health Dentistry has conducted an Oral

Health Awareness Programme for Health Workers of Kalla PHC.

Around 55 health workers including Auxiliary Nurse Mid-wives

(ANM’s) and Accredited Social health Activists (ASHA’s) have

attended the awareness programme.

As a part of DHANUTSAV, the students & faculty have contributed

for donating 3 benches to Anganvadi School, Bhimavaram under the

National Service Scheme (NSS).

We have initiated a novel mass campaigning program “ORAL HEALTH ALLIANZ-

Miles for Smiles” in the month of November, 2016. The program was incepted to

communicate and collaborate with groups and individuals on oral health issues, to

deliver personalized oral health education, appraisal of individual’s oral health

status and to promote health seeking behavior among rural masses. These

objectives were achieved through door to door visits from students of Vishnu

Dental College in the neighboring villages.

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vishnu Dental College

organized an Orientation program on Swasthya Vidya Vahini to

create awareness and sensitized all the students regarding

Swasthya Vidya Vahini Programme.

On the occasion of “Republic day”, NSS Unit and Department of Public

Health Dentistry has organized an Elocution competition on “What is

Patriotism?”. Best ten participants were given an opportunity to

present the same on Radio Vishnu 90.4. Community FM.

Awareness program on Digital Payments was organized by our NSS Unit

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Dr. M. Begum and Dr. Hima Naga

Lakshmi, Interns have delivered an awareness talk on AIDS which has

been broadcosted in Radio Vishnu.

Our college is also providing externship programmes for students to develop practice oriented

dental skills in advanced dental clinics in India.

17 Interns have attended One week to Ten days externship

programme in the year 2016 at Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin

and Hyderabad.

We appreciate the co-operation extended by Dr. Muniratnam

Naidu, Chennai, Dr. Vijay Srinivas, Hyderabad, Dr. A. V.

Ramesh, Bangalore, and Dr. Joseph Varghese, Cochin towards

the externship programme.

Our MOU with Missouri State University, USA, has enabled our students for

concession in tuition fees for the MPH programme offered by the University. This

year Dr. Sakinya, our BDS graduate has taken up the MPH Programme.

Patient Care

We are one among the very few colleges in the state who have

facilitated for advanced diagnostic aid by installing CBCT in the

department of Oral Medicine & Radiology

As a social responsibility, the management has been kind enough to allocate special funds for the

surgical treatments of the needy. The Maxillofacial Surgical Unit in our institute is active and as a

referral center catering to needs of surrounding population.

111 major surgeries have been performed at our surgical unit and I am happy to say that it stands

at number one position in the state amongst those colleges who are not attached to medical

college.

The comprehensive and evening clinics have been setup last year to provide fact-track treatment

for affordable paitents 4,331 have benefited so far.

Sports & Culturals:

Our students not only excel in academics but in extra and co-

curricular activities.

Mr. S. Deepak Kumar & Mr. Nalam Tarun, III BDS, have been selected for University team of Dr.

N.T. R. University Basket Ball Men. They have participated in South Zone Basket Ball Men

held at Madras University, Madras from 26th to 31st December 2016.

Mr. S. Deepak Kumar, III BDS, has been selected as team player

for Senior Nationals Andhra Pradesh Basket Ball Team. He

played for Andhra Pradesh in 67th All India Senior National Basket

Ball Championship held at Pondicherry in the month of January

2017.

We have organized a Kite Festival in the month of February 2016. Students &

Faculty have participated actively in the festival.

International Yoga Day has been celebrated on 21st June 2016

Teacher’s Day Celebrations were organized by our Students

Annual sports were conducted in the months of September & October 2016

College Graduation Day has been conducted on 22nd October 2016.

Dr. Keerthilatha M. Pai, Senior Professor, College of Dental

Sciences, Manipal has been the Chief Guest for the function.

Employment Generation and Community out reach:

We have setup three satellite clinics in the last one year at Alampuram, Dwaraka Tirumala and

Munganda. The objective of establishing these satellite clinics is to render Oral Health Care

services to the rural population and employment generation to the Alumni of Vishnu Dental College

and educated unemployed rural people.

The process of setting up of comprehensive clinics is under progress.

We have submitted our Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to National Assessment and

Accreditation Council through IQAC for the year from 2015 – 2016.

Visit of Eminent Personalities:

Dr. R. D. Ravindran, Chairman and Director, Aravind Eye Care System has

visited our college on 26th November 2016.

Dr. P. Revathi, Executive Committee Member, Dental Council of India, New

Delhi has visited our college on 24th January 2017. She has sensitized all

the students regarding the consequences of Ragging.

Postgraduate Alumni Meet:

Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry has organized its first

postgraduate Alumni Meet on 29th January 2017.

With the constant guidance and support of our beloved Chairman, Vishnu Raju sir, Vice-Chairman

With the blink of an eye the year has passed and I was memorizing the fancy dress skit of the faculty on the

eve of last annual day. With this note

I am happy to inform you that four of our MDS specialities 1) Prosthodontics, 2) Conservative Dentistry &

Endodontics, 3) Pedodontics and 4) Orthodontics have been granted recognition by Government of India as

recommended by Dental Council of India and also affiliation by Dr. NTR UHS for six postgraduate

admissions in respective specialities.

Academics:


We had a very good pass percentage both at the UG level in the University examinations with an average of

88% in UG for the academic year 2015.

We had Sixteen distinctions out of which Eleven are from 2nd year, Three from 1st year and Two from 3rd

year for the year 2015.

Similarly, the pass percentage for the PG is 97% for the year 2015.

Cancer Conference held at Chennai.

Dr. P. Sindhuri, III MDS has secured 1st Prize (Session wise) for her Scientific Paper Presentation at

I am happy to inform that Rupees nineteen lakhs have been released out of the thirty three lakhs

sanctioned by DST for the ongoing research project of Dr. Vinay Chandrappa and his team from

department of Pedodontics.

An amount of Rs.2,34,287/- has been released by Our Sri Vishnu Educational Society for various ongoing

research projects of our faculty and students in this year.

29 research projects other than post graduate dissertations by faculty and PGs are currently under

progress.

Book on Government Contracts co-authored by Dr. P. Arun Bhupathi, Assistant Professor has been

published by Eastern Book Company, Lucknow.

BLS training is mandatory for all of us, since we are health care providers. In this regard, one day certificate

course on ‘BASIC LIFE SUPPORT – HANDS ON COURSE’ was conducted on 1st & 2nd September 2015 in our

college premises in collaboration with TACT Chennai.

One day CDE program on significance of magnification in dentistry was done for post graduate students by

our Director – Dr Anand Raju and Dr. Girija Sajjan madam.

Refreshing course on dental radiology for 1 year post graduate students was done by dept. of oral medicine

and radiology.

We have organized and hosted two workshops and one state level conferences in the year 2015.

Department of Periodontics has conducted a three day “Rapid Revision Programme” titled “Perio

August 2015. Dr. Neeraj Gugnani, Professor, Department of Pedodontics, D.A.V. (C) Dental College,

Yamuna Nagar, Haryana was Resource Person.

The department of Orthodontics has conducted “Smile Torch” programme from 19th to 26th August 2015 in

various colleges in the surrounding villages of Bhimavaram.

As a part of this programme “Orthodontic Awareness Campaign” was conducted in 6 schools and 5

colleges.

Around 1,600 children were screened and 3,000 students were made aware about the importance of Oral

Hygiene and benefits of Orthodontic treatment with the help of Audio Visual Aids, and power point

presentation.

The department of Prosthodontics has conducted workshop on “Bio-functional Prosthetic System” on 3rd

& 4th September 2015.

Bangalore, Cochin and Hyderabad.

We appreciate the co-operation extended by Dr. Muniratnam Naidu, Chennai, Dr. Vijay Srinivas,

Hyderabad, Dr. A. V. Ramesh, Bangalore, and Dr. Joseph Varghese, Cochin towards the externship

programme.

Our MOU with Missouri State University, USA, has enabled our students for concession in tuition fees for

the MPH programme offered by the University. This year Dr. Sai Kiran, who has done post graduation at

our college in prosthodontics has taken up the MPH Programme.

Patient Care

Endodontics has become a speciality to work under magnification. After the visit of our director to Tufts

University last year we have taken an initiative to introduce magnification in Endodontics, last year I have

mentioned about facilitating microscopes to post graduate students of Endodontics. I am happy to inform

you that this year we have completed the process and the department of Endodontics is now equipped

with microscopes for postgraduates individually. I am proud to say that ours is the only institute in the

country to do so and with this initiative we are able to provide quality endodontic treatment to the

patients.

As a social responsibility, the management has been kind enough to allocate special funds for the surgical

treatments of the needy. The Maxillofacial Surgical Unit in our institute is active and as a referral center

catering to needs of surrounding population.

105 major surgeries have been performed at our surgical unit and I am happy to say that it stands at

number one position in the state amongst those colleges who are not attached to medical college.

We have setup a comprehensive clinic for fast-track treatment of affordable patients in the month of

August 2015 and the response is positive.

Sports & Culturals:

The students of Vishnu Dental College not only excel in academics but in extra and co-curricular activities

also.

I am happy to inform you that the students have attended “3rd IDA UG Conference” held at G. S. L. Dental

College & Hospital, Rajahmundry from 28th to 30th November 2014 and won the Overall Championship

Winners Trophy for Sports and Overall Championship Runners Trophy for Culturals.

Infrastructures:

We have setup a third satellite clinic “Vishnu Dental Care” at Juvvalapalem on 26th April 2015.

Well-ventilated examination hall with a capacity of 175 students has been built above the 1st floor of our

library.

Face lift of block II & III and connectivity between the blocks has been facilitated. We have also renovated

our college Administrative Office.

We have submitted our Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to National Assessment and Accreditation

Council through IQAC for the year from 2014 – 2015.

The library week celebrations have been held from 14th to 20th November and Dr. K. Vara Prasada

Gurusahasravadhani was chief guest on the concluding day.

I am happy to inform you that our beloved Principal sir has been honored the AAID Fellow Ship and he will

be proceeding to USA tomorrow and he will be receiving the honor on 21st October 2015 at Las Vegas. We

the faculty and students congratulate him for his achievement and wish him a bon voyage.

Our efforts to raise the levels of functioning the institute continuous and in this regard, we had our

governing body meeting held yesterday. We are fortunate that eminent personalities in the fraternity of

dentistry have consented and attended the meeting. I am proud to say that we had Dr.V.Surendra Shetty,

Pro Vice-Chancellor, MAHE, Dr. S. Ramananda Shetty, Vice-Chancellor, Nittee University, Dr. Faizuddin,

Academic activities conducted at Vishnu Dental College To update our academics CDE programmes, Workshops and Seminars were conducted in various departments throughout the year. Zonal CDE Programmes by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada: 14 Zonal CDE Programmes were conducted in our college under Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Faculty and Postgraduate students from Gitam Dental College & Hospital, Visakhapatnam have also attended the same. As well as our college Faculty & Postgraduate students have attended the Zonal CDE Programmes at Gitam Dental College & Hospital, Visakhapatnam under Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Continuous Dental Education Programmes: ACE-VDC Academy of Continuing Education – Vishnu Dental College (ACE-VDC) Clinical Society meeting are being conducted second Wednesday of Every month and intern disciplinary discussions were discussed in the ACE-VDC. Dr. Satish Alapati, PhD, DDS, Assistant Professor, Director of Pre-Doctoral Clinic Operations, Managing Partner Consultant, College of Dentistry, University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, has visited our college on 20th November 2013 and given a Guest lecture and Clinical Demonstration to Postgraduate Students and Faculty Members. Guest Lecture and Workshop on ELISA – Its Kinship with Dentistry by Dr. N. S. Jagdeeswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemsitry, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital, Chennai on 5th & 6th December 2013 for Faculty and Postgraduate students of Oral Pathology, Periodontics, Oral Medicine & Radiology and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Lecture on Biostatistics by Mr. Vishnu Vardhana Rao, Biostatistian on 30th November and 1st December 2013 at our college. Mr. Vishnu Vardhana Rao, Biostatistian, lecture was very well appreciated by our Faculty and Postgraduate students. It is very useful to our Postgraduate students when they are preparing the Synopsis. Faculty and 8 Postgraduate students from the department of Oral Medicine & Radiology and Dr. G. B. Vinit, Professor and Two Postgraduate Students from Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery have attended Workshop on I. V. line transfusion on 25th February 2014 at Bhimavaram. Workshop was conducted by Dr. G. Suryanarayana Raju, Professor, General Surgery, Vishnu Dental College. Training Programmes Basic Life Support (BLS) Training programme was conducted for faculty and Interns. The training TACT team Mr. Ezhilarasan and Mr. Arun Samuel have conducted a two day training programme including Hands-on course on 19th & 20th December 2013 on Basic Life Support in dental practice.

All the Students & Staff members were actively involved themselves in the Research Activities. 16 (12 for Faculty and 4 for Postgraduate Students) Research Projects were started in the year 2013-14 out of which 3 (1- Faculty, 2-PGs) Research Projects were completed and remaining are in the process. School Dental Health Programmes by the department of Pedodontics Faculty, Postgraduate students and Interns of Pedodontics department have conducted camps at Vishnu Public School – Zero Cavity programme and Mahatma Gandhi Yoga Vidyalaya on 29th October 2013. 83 children were screened in these camps. Faculty, Postgraduate students and Interns of Pedodontics department have conducted camps at Patient Orientation Programme, Eurokids, Bhimavaram on 4th & 5th February 2014, A. R. K. R.

Municipal High School, Bhimavaram on 11th February 2014 and M. P. P. School, U. P. School, Kallakuru on 25th February 2014. 544 children were screened in these camps. Functions & Events: Our 2nd BDS Students have conducted Fresher’s Day on 26th October 2013 for the New Batch Students who have admitted for the academic year 2013 – 2014. Our College Graduation Day was conducted on 9th March 2014 for both Undergraduates and Postgraduates students. Dr. M. V. Ramanamma, Rector, Dr. N. T. R. University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada attended as Chief Guest. The Graduation Day function went on as per the schedule and followed by the Farewell party for the graduates by present batch of Interns. Externship Programmes & Enrichment Courses: In USA: The uniqueness of Vishnu Dental College for students and staff with various Enrichment Courses and Externship Programmes to improve their knowledge and skills in their field. The Vishnu Dental College is having Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in association with the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA. Three of our best Students, Dr. Y. J. B. Manikyamba, Intern, Dr. Ranisamyuktha, I MDS, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics and Mr. Siddharth, I MDS, Department of Orthodontics along with Dr. M. A. K. V. Raju, Director (Vishnu Dental College) have attended the Externship Programme at School of Dentistry, Tufts University, Boston, USA from 06.10.2013 to 21.10.2013. In India: Vishnu Dental College is providing externship programmes for students to develop practice oriented dental skills in advanced dental clinics. Three of our Interns, Ms. A. Satya Kalpana, Ms. K. Sneha and Ms. T. Leela Naga Pavani have attended the Externship Programme at Dr. Muniratnam Naidu’s Clinic in Chennai from 07.10.2013 to 12.10.2013. Three of our Interns, Mr. S. D. Hanudeep, Mr. M. Anudeep, Ms. U. Kaushiki and Ms. A. Malya have attended the Externship Programme at Dr. Vijay’s Clinic (A. P. Super Speciality Dental Hospital), at Hyderabad from 16.09.2013 to 21.09.2013. admitted in Post-graduation in various dental colleges of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2013 – 2014

through Post Graduate Entrance Examinations held by Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences,

Vijayawada.

Dr. Bharathiram Guduri, Intern (2008-2009 batch) has been chosen as an Elsevier Student Ambassador

2013 – 2014 to aid and enhance the concept of e-learning in South Asia.

Dr. Gowri Vijay Resu a graduate (2002-2003) from Vishnu Dental College who has done his Masters

from UK in Forensic Odontology has been appointed at Prestigious Moulana Azad Institute of Dental

Sciences, New Delhi. He is the first Faculty in that speciality and has been entrusted to commence the

department of Forensic Odontology at that institute.
