    Teacher Training Grant

As many of you know, the EU funded Grundtvig program generously sponsorsteacher training. They pay towards travel costs and hotel accomodation and somesmall part of the course fee. But what about those teacher training courses which takeplace online? No hotel costs, no travel costs and so far, no funding.

Therefore we would like to initiate a teacher training grant fund which will sponsortowards 50-80% of the course fee, depending on where the teacher lives who appliesfor funding.

The following list of four teacher training courses have been selected because they alltrain language learning with technology and they can be taken at a distance.

    1. IH COLT - IH Certificate for Online Tutoring, International House (Infos:http://www.ihonlinetraining.net/ihcolt.html)

    2. Cert ICT - Certificate in Teaching Language with Technology, The Consultants-E

(Infos: http://www.theconsultants-e.com/courses/trinityict/index.asp )3. LANCELOT Training - LANguage learning with CErtified Live Online Teachers,

    LANCELOT School (Infos: http://www.lancelotschool.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=115&Itemid=117 )

    4. EUROVOLT via VLE, Die Wiener Volkshochschulen GmbH, KompetenzzentrumLernen und eLearning + Kompetenzzentrum Sprachen und Kulturen (Infos:http://www.eurovolt.net/)

If you wish to donate or become a sponsor of this educational program, please got to

the Sponsor tab of the website and click on the "Donate" button. This will initiate a

    Paypal payment.

All contributions are added to a fund and language teachers may apply to be acceptedfor a grant, clearly stating the course they wish to take.

    Unconference

An unconference is a time when participants get together to speak about what theywant to talk about, not what is on the program. This concept is still fairly new and yetvery simple. Open-minded people are welcome.

    EVOs global training camp

Every year for 6 weeks starting mid January, the Internet buzzes with activities. In2010 alone some 2000 language teachers engaged and worked and learnt at the free-of-charge online training camp called EVO - Electronic Village Online.

What is absolutely amazing and truly mindblowing is that this workshop is organizedand conducted by more than 60 volunteers, is superbly organized and the training is ofsuch high quality that it could easily rival university supported online training programsin media literacy and above all it is completely focused on language learning withtechnology.

    AVALON Teacher Training

After more than a year of development the AVALON teacher training course waspiloted over a period of 5 weeks from mid February to mid March 2010.

We are very much looking forward to hear first-hand about this experience fromdevelopers, trainers and trainees.

It was not an easy task to select 20 language teachers of the eager 70 applicantsreceived and in the end 16 teachers in 11 countries enjoyed a challenging course.Sadly four of them did not join due to hardware problems or failing internet.

After 4 weeks with 2 times 2h a week group sessions in Second Life the trainees

presented their final tasks, a language course designed to be held in Second Life.

Connected and organised in their quest for researchIALLT, CALICO, EUROCALL, WorldCALL, APACALL all have one thing in common:their passion for research in the field of language learning with technology.Spanning more than four decades, no other professional associations have shownsuch persistence and patience, as well as endurance, in their quest for the recognitionof research in the field of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). It is thisemphasis on research that has proved to be one of their most consistent features and, unknown to many of us, the hard work of these associations has resulted in importantcontributions to language policy throughout the world.

    3) Virtual Simulcast

Ground-breaking new is that all sessions in Adobe ConnectPro will be streamed live inSecond Life, Viewer 2 is a pre-requisite. To see what this might look like, click here:

    http://www.youtube.com/lancelotschool#p/a/u/1/ryyPcuDJvYg

    4) Second Life

Second Life is a 3D environment and does not only require a software installation but alsoa registration for a so-called avatar (3D cartoon). The registration on the Second Lifehomepage is not really difficult and download as well as installation is also quitestraightforward, however all of this plus some time spent on learning how to walk, talk, fly

and teleport takes time. Approximately 1-2 hours has to be alloted for this. And best also isnot to do this alone.
