About

MARYLAND CASA ASSOCIATION

Maryland CASA Association is a private, non-profit (501c3) organization founded in 1997 and dedicated to ensuring allchildren in Maryland their right to safe, permanent homes. Every day in Maryland, children face abuse, neglect, andabandonment. Often these children are confused and scared, lost in the maze of judges, attorneys, and social workerswhere life-altering decisions are made on their behalf. This is where CASA comes in.

Our mission is carried out through the support and development of Maryland's local Court Appointed SpecialAdvocate (CASA) programs, which recruit and train adult volunteers to serve as advocates for victims of child abuseand neglect. Our vision is for all children in Maryland to grow up in safe, permanent homes and achieve their fullpotential.

WHAT IS THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE?

Now in its 14th consecutive year, Maryland CASA's Annual Conference on Child Well-Being is a two-day VIRTUAL eventdesigned to enhance the skills and knowledge of CASA volunteers and staff, social workers, children's attorneys, judges, magistrates, mental health practitioners, educators and other professionals to better serve Maryland's abusedand neglected children. The theme for this year's conference is "Reimagining Foster Care," reflecting the significantchanges in the federal, state and local child welfare landscape.

Day 1 of the conference will feature a welcome from Chief Judge Mary Ann Barbera (invited), followed by plenary andbreakout session on federal and state initiatives, and new models of practice for those serving children and familiesinvolved in the child welfare system that will impact foster care as we know it.  The sessions will feature subject matterexperts who will discuss the latest developments in the field to educate judges, magistrates, CASA advocates, childwelfare, legal and other professionals about promising practices and innovations for addressing these increasinglycomplex issues.
