Cut out this template and using a

ballpoint pen draw the triangle shape on

the wrong side of scrap cotton fabric.

Align the fabric pieces front and back right

sides facing. Cut approx. 1cm around the pen lines.

Sew along the pen line leaving the top section open

for binding.

When all the triangles are sewn turn right sides out and iron

flat. Position the triangles in order of preference.

Fold a 3 metre length of bias binding in half along the long edge.

Insert triangles along the length and pin in place.

Sew along the bias binding in a straight line to secure triangles in place.

How to make thispretty Pin Cushion:

Cut 8 squares of co-ordinating fabric. each square measuring 2 inches.(if you don’t have a rotary cutter make a 2inch template from cardboard and use thisto draw squares onto reverse side of cottonfabric. Cut out on this line.

Sew 4 squares together right sides facingfor top of pin cushion. Sew lace or ribbondown the centre and across the centre.

Sew 4 squares together for reverse of pincushion.

Align top and botton of pin cushiontogether right sides facing and sew allaround about 1/4inch in. Leave a gap.

Turn right side out and stuff with wadding(an old pillow filling is perfect) until full.Handsew the gap. Sew a button into thecentre of pin cushion. Use a long sewingneedle as you want to sew right through.Sew until secure.

To make up:Sew in zip to top front and top back of pencilcase. Sew the lining into place also along thezip edge. (Log on to www.youtube.com tolearn how to sew in a zip.)With wrong side facing align front and back toeach other and inside lining front and backtogether. Zip will be in the centre. Sew all around but leave a gap to turn rightside out.Pull fabric through the gap and iron flat. Sew gap together.Use thin satin ribbon to make a tassle to hangoff zip puller.

How to make Pencil Case:Cut the fat quarters into 4 pieces , eachone measuring 10inches x 5inches. (2pieces for outside front and back; 2pieces for lining). Use left over fabric tomake the ruffle along the centre of thepencil case.To make the ruffle:iron a long strip of leftover cotton inhalf on the long side. Sew along theedge and then turn right side out. ironflat. Using a needle and thread gatherthe cotton strip from left to right andpin in place along the front piece ofpencil case fabric. Sew along this lineand then sew ric-rac in place along thecentre. Sew button to front of pencilcase on top of ruffle.
