Welcome to First Worship! We extend a welcome as broad as the

outstretched arms of God, who calls us to be here together to rejoice in God’s

glorious presence. Welcome to children of all ages – to all the children of

God, each one of us. If you are an old friend or here for the first time, we

welcome you.

Our worship is an intergenerational experience and we want children to feel

fully included. Children are welcome to pick up an activity bag and to bring

snacks to their seats. We remember that worship offers us all a special place to

be with God. In this space we talk a little more softly and walk a little more

quietly. We are listening for God.

LORD’S PRAYERLORD’S PRAYERLORD’S PRAYERLORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,

For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

If you have, or know of, a pastoral care need, contact Liz Garrigan-Byerly at 781-235-1988 ext. 14. In case of a pastoral emergency, please call 334-521-2481. Christian Meditation Practice 5:00-6:00 pm, Burtt Chapel Meditation: it’s not what you think! Join us for a spirit-refreshing session to unwind the stresses of the week and energize ourselves for the week ahead. Join us for a short reading, followed by 20 minutes of silent meditation: an oasis of calm in the whirlwind of life. All ages welcome;

come as you are. Contact John Hargrave (617-816-4123) for more information. Writing to Wake the Soul Sundays to June 16 from 6-7:30 pm. Library Drawing on resources from author Karen Hering, Tracey Wood will facilitate this group exploring how written words can help us capture our experiences, truths and questions and lead us to discover “the still, small voice within.” Relying on the ancient traditions of “contemplative correspondence” which use poetry, story, images, objects, history and science as points of departure and reflection on a particular word or theme each week, we will create a

correspondence with our own souls and inner truths. We will also use our writing to enter into conversation, sharing and relationship. Books and a sign-up sheet are available during Fellowship Hour. BULLETIN NOTES Update from the Senior Pastor Search Committee and our New Senior Pastor The search for a new Senior Pastor ended in February when the congregation called the Reverend Sarah Sarchet Butter. Now the transition for Sarah and her family has begun. An update from Sarah can be found in the Enews. We send out a weekly electronic newsletter on Friday mornings, if you are not receiving the Enews, please contact Felicia Nadel at 781-235- 1988, x21 or at [email protected]. Worship Conversations Please sign up at our table during Fellowship Hour Tuesday May 12 and Wednesday May 20, 6:30 pm, Village Common Our Church covenant begins with an affirmation that we are “banded together to maintain the worship of God.” Worship is at the heart of who we are. We are also currently engaged in a discernment process about the future of worship in our church and we invite you to be a part of our reflecting and visioning. Please join the Chapel Committee for a light dinner and a process of communal discernment about worship at Village Church on either or both of the dates listed above. Childcare will be available. Please Contact Susan Sullivan to RSVP ([email protected] or 508-655-3574). The Blessing Of A Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children by Wendy Mogel Wednesdays, May 6, 13 and 20, 7:30 to 9 pm, Library, Facilitators: Kerry Evans and Erinn Staley In the midst of her career as a clinical psychologist and a mother of two young children, Wendy Mogel discovered that her faith could lead her towards the meaningful and fulfilling family life for which she was yearning. Drawing on the wisdom of the Torah, the Talmud, and important Jewish teachings, Mogel creates a framework of nine “blessings,” which are also relevant for any household of faith to help parents raise self-reliant, compassionate and ethical children.

Village Churchwomen Annual Meeting and Luncheon Tuesday, May 12, at 12 noon in Village Common Why I Go to the Holy Land (and you should, too!) Come enjoy the warmth of both spring and fellowship with the Village Churchwomen! We will be serving a light lunch at our Annual Meeting before we settle back to enjoy a memorable time with Interim Senior Pastor Mary Luti, recently returned from the Holy Land. Aren't we all inclined to ask, “But isn't it dangerous over there?” That's a question you hear a lot when you tell people you're going to the Holy Land. They'd love to go too, but they're afraid. Come hear our own Mary Luti share stories from her recent trip to Jerusalem, as well as her reasons for returning again and again to this beautiful, complicated and historic region. All women are welcome. Please RSVP by Monday, May 4 either on the sign-up sheet in the church lobby or by emailing [email protected] as we will need a precise head count for lunch. From the Environmental Ministry: Hear a Stand-up Economist The Environmental Ministry invites you to consider An Evening of Humor and Insight featuring Yoram Bauman, the Stand-up Economist. In addition, five financial and sustainability experts will provide a lively interactive discussion on “The Financial Benefits of Sustainability.” The program, sponsored in part by Sustainable Wellesley and Wellesley College, will be presented on Wednesday, May 6th at 7:30 at the Wellesley College Science Center auditorium. Reserve your complimentary tickets at www.SustainableWellesley.com Ordination and Installation of Vanessa Payne Rose Vanessa will be ordained and installed as Associate Pastor of Children and Families at First Church UCC Fairfield, Connecticut on Saturday, May 9, at 2 pm. All are invited to attend the service and reception. Vanessa is a daughter of Alan and Janet Rose and was in care at Village Church while she was at Yale Divinity School. If you would be interested in carpooling, contact Linda Smith, [email protected]. Short Program in Music Sunday, May 10, 11:15 am - Noon After Worship on May 10, please join us for a short program of music.
