SNOW REMOVAL ORDINANCE • Persons Required to Remove Snow. The owners, occu-

pants, or lessees of lots which abut a public sidewalk are required to clear snow after two inches has accumulated. Additionally, the owner is required to clear off accumulations of ice, sleet, or freez-ing rain. The responsible person is required to maintain the side-walk in a reasonably clear condition.

• Area required to be cleared. The responsible person is re-quired to clear the lesser of 72 inches or the full width of the side-walk. Additionally, owners most closely abutting sidewalk ramps are required to clear the ramps.

Timing. Clearance should occur within 24 hours after the cessation of an event that deposits at least two inches of snow.

REMAINING VISIBLE AT NIGHT

When walking at night, wear light-colored clothing and reflective clothing or a reflective vest to be visible. Drivers are often not expecting walkers to be out after dark, and you need to give them every chance to see you, even at street crossings that have crossing signals. Be just as cautious at dawn or twilight, as drivers still have limited visibility or may even have the setting or rising sun directly in their eyes.

DARE THE WORLD TO SAVE THE PLANET Earth Hour is a simple idea that quickly turned into a global

phenomenon. Hundreds of millions of people around the world turn off their lights for one hour on the same night, to focus on the one thing that unites us all—our planet. On Saturday March, 23 join other village residents in turning out your lights for one hour start-ing at 8:30 p.m. It is easy to forget how much we depend on the planet for so many things like food, fuel, water and fresh air and that the actions we take—from the energy we use to the food we buy—have an effect on the world. Earth Hour is our chance to make and show our commitment to protect our planet not just for one hour a year, but every day. For more information on Earth Hour visist www.worldwildlife.org.

WHY A READING PROGRAM? WHY AT PETTY SCHOOL?

THIS IS A WIN-WIN PROGRAM. Our Volunteers win because they are working with children

that are eager to learn, doing something they really enjoy doing and are making a difference according to the Volunteers them-selves. One Volunteer is thrilled to be back in the classroom and was even more pleased to be asked to sub on occasion. We ex-pand the ―children‘s world view past the walls of the school‖ and fulfill a goal of the Principal, Alan Sax to ―build community relation-ships letting the Students internalize that they are part of a bigger future and a larger community‖.

As a new Principal, Mr. Sax was very receptive to the idea of the Reading Program and is very comfortable having Volunteers help his staff. Mr. Sax relayed a story from one of our young stu-dents. Petty School has a VIP Day which has replaced Grandpar-ents Day since most students have a VIP in their life that is not necessarily a Grandparent. The student asked if he could invite the ―Reader‖ which is what the Volunteers are called by the Stu-dents. They read to us during our time in the classroom. Heart-warming to say the least!

Bottom line – the children are excited and happy to see us and it‘s working. Please consider donating your time to this worth-while effort.

PM&L THEATRE: SEASON 52‟S NEXT PERFORMANCE

Next Show at PM&L Theatre on Main Street: A Flea in Her Ear, a comic farce directed by Lorrie Ferguson, written by Georges Feydeau and translated by John Mortimer, runs Fri/Sat nights at 8:00 pm on April 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, and Sunday matinees at 2:30pm on April 7, 14, 21. Director Lorrie Ferguson keeps this funny farce true to the original period piece, setting the play in Paris, France in the early 1900s. Her talented cast will transport you to Europe while their silly, "adults only" hyjinks -- suspect infi-delity, mistaken identity, and more -- will keep you laughing. The plot: Raymonde suspects her husband, Victor Emmanuel, of infidel-ity and turns to her best friend, Lucienne, to help her to gain proof. They concoct a scheme - based on a perfumed letter - to trap him at the Hotel Coq d'Or in Montretout, France. In true Feydeau fash-ion, the plan misfires, complicated by mistaken identities, revolving beds, doors galore and the fact that the stupid hotel porter, Posche, is the exact double of Victor Emmanuel. Tickets: Adults $13, Stu-dents & Seniors $11. Box Office opens March 25th (847-395-3055) or visit our website prior to March 25th to download an order form. www.pmltheatre.com

Next Auditions: Nuts a drama, directed by Gigi Glerum Willding. Auditions will be April 8th & 9th at the theatre at 7:00pm. She will need 3 women (ages 25-60) and 6 men (30 years or older). Nuts is a 1979 play by Tom Topor. It is a suspenseful, psy-chological courtroom drama. For more information on auditions, please contact Gigi Willding at (847) 651-7918. The show will run May 31st to June 16th, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sun-days at 2:30pm. To find out more information, please visit our web-site: www.pmltheatre.com.

You can help shape important policy and budget deci-sions, and influence where the County will focus its resources. The Lake County Board will thoughtfully consider this input as it devel-ops its long-term strategic plan. You have a voice in this process! The forum will be on Tuesday, March 5 at the Antioch Township Building (1625 Deep Lake Road, Lake Villa). From 6-7 p.m. there will be an open house where everyone can visit informational dis-plays, ask questions, and learn about County services and pro-grams. At 7 p.m. the community forum will begin to share your input and participate in interactive exercises.

From the desk of the Antioch Township Supervisor Steve Smouse:

The days are getting longer and we are look-

ing forward to spring. Still, keep elderly and chal-lenged friends and relatives in mind during the win-ter weather. Just a regular phone call or visit could make a big difference in an emergency.

During the first 11 months of 2012 we have registered over 3600 trips from Antioch Township through the METRA Northwest Demonstration Pro-ject. This is a supplement to the dial-a-ride service that the Townships of Antioch, Grant, Lake Villa and Avon in cooperation with Lake County Div of Transportation and METRA have been working on for the past few years. We have recently been joined by Fremont and Wauconda Townships. Transportation is a growing problem for our area for seniors and the handicapped. We have worked very hard to secure federal funding for this project along with local funds.

To schedule a trip, call Lake County Call Cen-ter at (800) 201-6446;

TTY (877) 218-0905. To register for the program, call the Township

office at (847) 395-3378. This is just another example of how township

government works for the direct benefit of its citi-zens through cooperation with other entities for the common good. We can do much more for people through cooperation and wise use of our re-sources. Antioch Township does not spend money that it does not have. Think Spring!

Steve
