Healing & Choral CommunionThe Third Sunday after

Epiphany1030 21 January 2018 AD

“Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched

him, saying, “I will; be clean.”

And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.ST MATTHEW 8:2-3

The Third Sunday after the EpiphanyOpening Hymn: 87 [vs 1,2,3,6] Hail to the Lord’s anointedWorship continues on page 1 of the liturgy booklets.The Collect: Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon our infirmities, and in all our dangers and necessities stretch forth your right hand to help and defend us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.

New Testament Reading: Romans 12:16b-21Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 102:15-22

15 The heathen shall fear thy ’ Name O ’ Lord : and all the ’ kings of the ’ earth thy ’ majesty;

16 When the Lord shall ’ build up ’ Sion : and when his ’ glory ’ shall ap’pear;17 When he turneth him unto the prayer of the ’ poor ’ destitute : and des’piseth not ’ their de’sire.18 This shall be written for ’ those that come ’ after: and the people which shall be ’ born shall ’ praise the ’ Lord.

-2-

19 For he hath looked ’ down from his ’ sanctuary : out of the heaven did the ’ Lord be’hold the ’ earth;20 That he might hear the mournings of such as are ’ in cap’tivity : and deliver the children ap’pointed ’ unto ’ death;21 That they may declare the Name of the ’ Lord in ’ Sion : and his ’ worship ’ at Je’rusalem;22 When the people are ’ gathered to’gether : and the kingdoms ’ also to ’ serve the ’ Lord.Glory be to the Father ’ and to • the ’ Son : and ’ to the ’ Holy ’ Ghost;As it was in the beginning is ’ now and • ever ’ shall be : world without ’ end. A ’ — ’ men.

Gospel Acclamation:Alleluia  (3x) Let every tongue confess that Jesus ’ Christ is ’ Lordto the glory of  ’ God the • Fath-  ’ er.Alleluia  (3x)

The Gospel: St Matthew 8:1-13Before the Gospel we sing: Glory to you, O LordWhen he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, “Lord,

my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be

healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.After the Gospel we sing: Praise to you, O Christ
