Harmonizing means reshaping the dental-cranial-facial structures thanks to the AMCOP device.

Cranio-occlusal-postural means the occlusal functional relationship between the cranium, the maxilla and the mandible, referring to the first cervical vertebrae.

The cranium can be considered a very nice magic box.

The cranium is the reflex of the teeth, the teeth are the reflex of the cranium.

Therefore the occlusal function depending on the cranial asymmetries must be assessed.

If the cranium is not symmetric, the mandible is not either, and everything is imbalanced

Consequently, before reactivating the mandible, the cranium (C0 occiput) must be reactivated on the spine, and C1 C2 on C3.

OCCLUSION, THE MIRROR OF POSTURAL BALANCE

Occlusion is a continuous dynamic and evolutionary process. It is the mirror of postural balance. Occlusion works as an actual open suture, point of vent of the cranium conscriptions.

Occlusion moulds the postural matrix. A malocclusion is the consequence of the patient’s dysfunctional problems associated to more or less severe dysmorphisms. The earlier the treatment will start, the greater the patient’s physiological recovery of the proper form and function will be. The interceptive work aims at simplifying the orthodontic treatment. It reactivates the different dysmetrias of the dento-cranio-facial system (Orthopedics) and the autonomic nervous functions of the mouth, such as swallowing, breathing, chewing and phonation. This way it avoids tooth extraction to save room in the dental arch. S.B. - Soulet-Besombes

In the 1950s professors Soulet and Besombes of the French functionalist orthopedics school, realized a new orthopedic device , with elastic characteristics and made of natural rubber, named S.B.. The activator was being used as a real functional-orthopedic device in the cranio-mandibular relationship and as a growth stimulator for a right chewing function. Professor Besombes defined their treatment interception orthopedics (reflected chewing therapy). The aim was to put the mandible in the right position by means of the maxilla action, in order to act on the suture and cranial structure tensions, normalizing the position of the different bones of all the cranio-facial system, with the subsequent tooth alignment, determined by this new bone balance.

Posture originates in and from the cranium, from the basiliar-spheno- synchondrosis (Italian:SSB-English:BSS) primary center and place of the cranio-facial growth. Description

A.M.C.O.P. elastic Bio-activators can be found in a complete range of arch harmonizer devices.

They can be distinguished according to different colors, characterizing the boxes containing them. Moreover they are labeled with different letters and numeration. They are available in a complete kit of 4 typologies of first class different arch forms, depending on the cranium conformation type, for a better orthopedic function. Second and third class devices are also available in addition to children’s devices, when they present deciduous teeth (milk teeth), when they present dental arch deflections associated to cranial and facial deflections and also pacifier shaped devices for an interceptive and early treatment, taking into account that the little children’s dental movement is simple, as the periodontal fibers are still immature. All the devices have been projected and realized for an expansive effect of the dental arches. They are therefore suitable for mouths with deciduous teeth (milk teeth), for mouths with mixed dentition, and for adults with complete permanent teeth. The activator presents some limitations as for the canine, molar and premolar rotation, obliquous wisdom teeth, mesially moved teeth, very serious skeletal dysmorphisms and in a condition of tooth advanced generalized mobility

The range is presented in two versions: AMCOP INTEGRAL Bio-activator and AMCOP BASIC Bio-activator.

AMCOP INTEGRAL Bio-activator is a specifically orthopedic device, a stabilizer of the mouth balance, complete with all the necessary elements for a right function on the dental-cranial-facial system as a whole.

AMCOP BASIC Bio-activator is an arch harmonizer device , specifically suitable for deep bites (It: alzamorso- English: rising of the mouth vertical dimension) and suitable for muscle-tensive problems, swallowing, breathing, snoring and bruxism.

Maintenance

The activator hygiene must be done daily, immersing the device in natural essence mouthwash (no chemicals, alcohol free) for some minutes and then letting it dry in the open air. As an alternative, it is advisable to immerse the device in a container ( a glass of water) with a coffee spoon of sodium bicarbonate. In case of different allergic reactions to the mucus membranes (soft tissues), please stop using it and call the dentist who prescribed it.

The device must be substituted if broken, pierced or in case of possible deformations, due to its use, since it loses its efficacy; in any case every 4-6 months.

AMCOP Bio-activator Material

The material used for the device is available in two different typologies, in different SHORE consistency gradations. The thermo-elastic material, CORTEX SOFT, is a super-elastic and very comfortable new material, in two consistency gradations (45-60 SHORE) and for its extraordinary elasticity and softness is superior to natural rubber and to other thermoplastic materials on the market. The DINABASE material is always available in two different consistency gradations (57-62 SHORE). The used materials are characterized by different consistency gradation SHORE to satisfy the different needs of the patient’s chewing load.

AMCOP Bio-activator PROTOCOL

The treatment is based on the activator use, day and night.

Day: Activating exercises in daytime.

Night: Have the device correctly positioned in the mouth in passive condition. By means of the device guides expressely shaped on the upper and lower maxillo and mandibualr vestibular strips, out of position teeth can be aligned with stimulation exercises, chewing on the activator.

At the beginning the activator must be worn daily; the patient must exercise the functional reeducation of swallowing, nose breathing by biting the device for maximum 20/30 minutes, three times a day. After one week the night- wearing is recommended, thus letting the mouth breathing patient start breathing using their nose.

It is possible for mouth breathing patients to lose their device during the night but if they wear it continuously, they’ll manage to wear it till morning.

Waking up, patients may feel a certain sensitivity at the mandible incisors, but after removing the device this sensitivity will disappear in about thirty minutes. The device must not injure cheeks and gingiva; should this happen, the necessary adjustments will be made. While using the device , teeth should always be kept clean to avoid bleeding due to gingivitis.

RECOMMANDATION

For the treatment to be successful exercises must be done following a specific. Activators must be used every day. While using the device, these symptoms must not be felt: tension, contraction, teeth- mouth- nape-neck back pain.

A specific cranio-sacral postural exercise is also recommended. It should be effected in a supine position

Devices suitable for the treatment of Angle skeletal Class II . The orange device is suitable for Class II dysmorphisms, for the treatment of mandibular retrognathisms, with a well defined orthopedic effect. AMCOP Bio-Activators can also be used by three-four-year old children. Because of their comfort and their dummy shaped comformation, they can interact right from the start with the first milk teeth for a proper development of the dental arches and of the cranio –facial bony structures.

A.M.C.O.P. bio-activator is a purposely osteopathic- orthopedic device, suitable for the right growth of the above mentioned structures, for the neuromuscular balance and the perfect balancing of the upper maxillary and the mandible and therefore of ATM (Temporomandibular joint)

Consequently, the devices can be considered actual growth stimulators of the dental cranial facial structures; they eliminate the interferences and the causes of the different malocclusion typologies, leading them towards the right physiological growth..

How evaluating the device measure

The activator measure is determined by the transverse distance dividing the vestibular cuspids of the sixth uppers.

On the border of the upper flanges corresponding to the first molars two little buttons are positioned as reference for the transverse measure of the device; when needed, they are used to evaluate the size in relation to the patient’s arch measure.

There are also available modified activators with both bilateral and monolateral posterior occlusal rises, for a proper orthopedic treatment of the dental arches. Moreover it is possible to ask for personalized activators for an individual treatment of the dental arches, connected to particularly distorted mouths or extra-large ones, which do not comply with standard devices on the catalogue.
