TALES FROM MY BANK OF BAD HABIT

A WORD OF THANKS  I’ve avoided naming names when giving thanks in my writings in this newsletter because of the fear that my innocent omission might offend someone. So I apologize in advance if  I may have forgotten to mention you, but thanks are due, so here I go. Thanks go out to our Treasurer Peter Bosshard for always keeping us in the black and handling all of our membership duties. To our Vice President Lorraine Bosshard, especially for her important work on our breast cancer benefit. To our Secretary Marianne Straaik for her constantassistance and keeping Al under control these last four years. To our area coordinators. On the east end of Long Island, Joe Lombardi, especially for his work on the family picnic, road cleanup and keeping his eye on all things Buffett within our Metro Parrot Head Nation. Our newest Long Island area coordinators Matt and Karen Smith who bring new enthusiasm to their work organizing this year’s Frosted Party and the Festival of Trees. To our area coordinator Terri Amundsen who has singly kept all of NYC in line for years. To our Rockland County coordinators Larry DeGennaro, especially for his work on the Rockland Memory Walk and to Linda Peter who’s donation didn’t blow off the truck last year and made it all the way to Captain’s Cove. Our New Jersey coordinators Jim and Ellen Hill and their yearly beach cleanup. To our Connecticut coordinator, my wife Carol, who not only has to put up with your crazy president, but has spent hundreds of hours over the last seven years organizing our spring fundraiser in Bridgeport. To Tom Dalton who has had the thankless job of ticket coordinator and merchandise manager. To Larry Kiewra who gave birth to our first website. To Kerry-Anne Willett who, in my opinion, has the hardest job in the club putting out this great newsletter month after month and her instant news updates in the Banana Wind. To Denise DeGennaro, Dave Levey and Helene Pino for organizing the Memory Walks. To Ed Travers for playing the Long Island happy hours and this year’s Frosted Party.  To all of you who made and donated items, stuffed the baskets, made the signs, hung the balloons, cleaned up the roads and beaches,  walked the walks and chased the donations, I thank all of you on behalf of the entire Metro Parrot Head Club membership and  dedicate this year’s Frosted Party to you. Here I go almost forgetting someone. Thanks to Jimmy Buffett, not only for the music, but for giving us the dream and the purpose.  Your president,

Dave Pohorylo

A Message From MickieIt doesn't seem all that long ago that Rich and I were happily singing and dancing along with all the rest of our Parrothead Friends. We always spoke of the good times and the dear friends we made in the Metro Club. When we were really active, we had the time of our lives. But, we needed to slow down a bit due to Rich's ever-increasing health issues. Now, Rich has left us ... but not really. He is with us in mind and spirit and he would want each and every one of you to toast him with a Margarita (with salt) that he was forbidden to have the last few years. He would always say, "Just let me

On behalf of Richie, my six children and nine grandchildren, I want to say thank you to all of those we had the privilege of knowing these many, many years, and also to the ones we had yet to meet. Your kind words and sentiments, and attendance in New Jersey to pay your last respects were so very much appreciated during a time of great sadness for my family much, but truly feel he is "up there" looking down on us and toasting us all with that long-awaited Margarita!! We all take great comfort in the support you have all provided to us. Once again, thanks so much ...With Sincere Gratitude ...~~ We miss him so Mickie Bautista and Family Frosted Parrothead Party Checklist

Viva MargaritasBy

Carrie Alexander:The Orlando Sentinel (KRT)

ORLANDO, Fla. _ Margaritas aren't just for celebrations. They are one of the top concoctions of choice for bar-goers, beach vacationers and come on, we just have to say it Jimmy Buffett fans. "It's a pretty popular drink here at Margaritaville," confirms Sherry Young, assistant general manager at Buffett's Margaritaville, the popular tourist spot at Universal Orlando's CityWalk complex. In fact, it's the top drink sold at the restaurant, where, at one of the bars, bubbling margarita mix spews from a volcano before it cascades into a giant blender to the delight of partying patrons. The margarita hails from Mexico, although the drink's origin is as hard to pin down today as Pancho Villa once was. Credit for the drink is sometimes given to a bartender in Ciudad Juarez, and at other times to a bartender at a Tijuana hot spot who, legend says, created it for an actress unable to drink other kinds of alcohol. Yet another story attributes the drink's creation to Texas socialite Margarita Sames, who supposedly whipped up the cocktail for guests at her Acapulco villa. Whoever the true cocktail pioneer, we do know that the margarita showed up sometime around the 1940s, and continued to draw attention thereafter. This intoxicating elixir is served in a variety of ways on the rocks, frozen or infused with fruit flavors in salt-rimmed highball glasses, large martini glasses or, of course, the ever-popular classic wide-brimmed margarita glasses, which can sport brightly-colored rims, swirls of color imbedded in the glass and even kitschy green-cactus stems. Variations have evolved, but traditional margaritas are concocted of three key ingredients. The basic recipe consists of three parts tequila (liquor distilled from the core of the agave plant), one part orange liqueur and one part fresh-squeezed lime juice, although you'll find it mixed in varying combinations. (And just for the record most bartenders worth their salt consider it a faux pas to toss a pre-made margarita mix into the blender with tequila and ice cubes.) Order a margarita and you'll get a drink served with any number of different tequilas and orange liqueurs, but some mixologists say it's important to use the small round Mexican limes (or, as we call them, Key limes), which tend to be a bit more sweet than the more-common limes found in grocery stores. Others say it's how you make the drink that matters most. A margarita shouldn't be too strong or too tart.

"The most important thing, for me, is to make sure you shake the margarita," says Young. That can be with or without ice, she says. Kyle Hemmer, bartender at Orlando's Adobe Gila's at Pointe Orlando, also suggests shelving your blender and serving margaritas on the rocks. "When you blend a drink it waters it down," he says. "When you shake it, it's fresh and crisp." On the other hand, he adds, margaritas infused with fruit flavors are best served frozen. "You still have the flavor of margaritas, but you've added a little bit of raspberry or mango," he says. Looking for exotic ways to mix a margarita? Check "The Great Margarita Book" by Al Lucero which offers more than 85 specialty margarita recipes.
