Soloist Application Mississippi State University Solo and Ensemble FestivalSaturday, May 12th, 2018 – 8:00 am to 6:00 pmStudent Application Due Date: April 20th, 2018The Mississippi State Solo and Ensemble festival is for middle and high school students who are in their second year of performance experience and beyond. High school students are considered Senior Division Players and middle school students are Junior Division Players for the purposes of repertoire selection for the festival. Please return this form with a check for $10 per soloist made out to: Mississippi State University Department of Music. Mail to: Solo and Ensemble, Mississippi State University, Department of Music, P.O. Box 6240, Mississippi State, MS 39762.

Solo instruments include: violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, French horn, trumpet, baritone/euphonium, trombone, tuba, piano, and percussion*.

Important Information for Soloists and Collaborative Pianists: Soloists may bring their own collaborative pianist (accompanist) or request an MSU staff pianist to play for them. If requesting an MSU pianist, please choose and prepare a piece from our collaborative repertoire list –junior or senior division (see repertoire list links) and meet the April 20th deadline. Students who bring their own collaborative pianists do not need to choose from the list and may perform any published piece for soloist with piano, but must provide the judges with a score. I am bringing my own collaborative pianist. Yes No I would like for MSU to assign a staff pianist. Yes NoPianists who wish to enter the festival to receive feedback on their skills as collaborative pianists may play the piano part to one or two movements of the J.S. Bach Sonata for Flute and Keyboard BWV 1031, available from www.IMSLP.org; we will supply the soloist. Piano collaborators bringing their own soloist may perform a piece of their choice, but must provide a score for the judges. *Percussionists: Only the instruments indicated below can be provided by MSU. Other equipment can possibly be supplied if the director/teacher communicates his/her needs by April 20th. Directors and students may also bring their own percussion equipment, if needed.
