Smog
Smog is created when sunlight mixes with the greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and other gases) that are in the
air.
Acid Rain
Acid Rain is rainfall made sufficiently acidic by atmospheric pollution that it
causes environmental harm, typically to forests and lakes. The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil
fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulfur and nitrogen oxides, which combine with atmospheric water to form
acids.
Deforestation
Deforestation, clearance or clearing is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to
a non-forest use. Examples of deforestation include conversion of
forestland to farms, ranches, or urban use.
Oil Spills
An oil spill is the release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the
environment, especially marine areas, due to human activity, and is a form of pollution. The term is usually applied to marine oil spills, where oil is released into the ocean or coastal waters, but
spills may also occur on land.
Global Warming
The theory that greenhouse gases that are formed from the burning of fossil
fuels is causing the Earth to heat up and climates to change.
