The WARNER BROS. PICTURES GROUP brings together the Studio’s motion picture production, marketing and distribution operations into a single entity. The Group, which includes Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures International, was formed to streamline the Studio’s film production process and bring those businesses’ organizational structures in line with Warner Bros.’ television and home entertainment operations.

In 2013, Warner Bros. Pictures enjoyed the most successful theatrical year in company history, grossing an industry-leading $5.038 billion in global box office ($1.893 billion domestic, $3.145 international) to take the number one positions in domestic, international and worldwide box office. The year marked the first time the Studio surpassed the $5 billion mark and only the second time that feat has been achieved by any studio in Hollywood. Both the domestic and international divisions crossed the billion-dollar mark for the 13th consecutive year, and the Pictures Group exceeded $4 billion globally for the fifth consecutive year, both milestones no other studio has ever achieved.

Warner Bros. Pictures produces and distributes a wide-ranging slate of some 18-22 films each year, employing a business paradigm that mitigates risk while maximizing productivity and capital. Warner Bros. Pictures either fully finances or co-finances the films it produces and maintains worldwide distribution rights. It also monetizes its distribution and marketing operations by distributing films that are totally financed and produced by others.

Among the films on Warner Bros. Pictures’ 2014 slate are The LEGO Movie, 300: Rise of an Empire, Edge of Tomorrow, Jupiter Ascending, The Judge, Horrible Bosses 2 (New Line Cinema) and The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies (NLC).

THE PROSPECT STUDIOS has long been a home to the creators of film and television productions. Its heritage dates back to the beginning of the film industry in the early 1900s.

Opening in 1915 as THE VITAGRAPH STUDIO, the original silent film plant included two daylight film stages, support buildings and many exterior film sets. In 1925, Vitagraph's founder Albert Smith sold the company to the Warner brothers. In 1927, the facility became THE WARNER EAST HOLLYWOOD ANNEX and was used for many large-scale films. In the 1930s and '40s Warner Bros. continued to shoot on the Lot using large water tanks, ship and backlot sets.

In 1948, the property was sold to the newly formed AMERICAN BROADCASTING COMPANY, and the film Lot was transitioned into the new world of television as the ABC TELEVISION CENTER. ABC also relocated its local TV Station KECA-TV (later KABC-7) to the property. As the ABC Television Center, the Studio evolved into a network transmission center, as well as the home of many successful and long-running TV series. In 1984, ABC coordinated worldwide coverage of the Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games from the Lot.

Page 12: Web viewLLC operates as a film and television studio. The company holds a library of original and acclaimed independent films, as well as scores of commercially successful films

In 1996, ABC became part of THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY, the origins of which trace back to its first Studio in Silver Lake. As the television and film industry entered the next millennium, the Lot was renamed THE PROSPECT STUDIOS. In 2002, the property underwent a major renovation to position its facilities for the future and new technical innovation.

The Prospect Studios, located in the Silver Lake section of Los Angeles, continues to serve as a home for several television productions. Daytime television's award-winning soap opera, General Hospital, started production in 1963 at the Studio Lot which was formerly known as ABC Television Center. The current production roster includes Grey's Anatomy, now in their sixth season.

As you will see throughout our website, The Prospect Studios offers a full range of support departments that include production, post production and broadcast services. Please contact us with any questions, comments or to see if we can assist with your next project.

Located in the heart of Hollywood, the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study is a building rich with Hollywood history.

The Academy's Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study was dedicated in honor of legendary silent film actress Mary Pickford in 2002. Pickford was one of the founding members of the Academy.

In addition to the 286-seat Dunn Theater, the building houses several Academy departments, including the Academy Film Archive, the Science and Technology Council, and the Grants and Nicholl Fellowship programs.

The building was originally built in 1947–48 as a radio and television studio facility at a cost of $3 million. It was designed by Claude Beelman (1884–1963) and his associate, Herman Spackler. Other Beelman buildings include the Hollywood Branch Post Office (1937) and the Thalberg Administration Building (1938) now on the Sony Pictures lot.

The dedication of the Don Lee-Mutual Broadcasting building was originally scheduled for May 18, 1948, but construction delays turned the event into a press tour of the facilities. The building was dedicated on August 18, 1948. It is the oldest surviving structure in Hollywood that was originally designed specifically with television in mind.

Cadillac dealer Don Lee got into broadcasting to stay competitive with his friend Earle C. Anthony, a Packard dealer, who bought radio station KFI as a method of appealing to his customers. Lee bought KFRC in San Francisco and KHJ in Los Angeles, ultimately building the chain to 12 West Coast stations. On November 5, 1930, Don Lee station KHJ and Paramount station KNX broadcast the third annual Academy Awards on Lee's Pacific Coast network.

Lee began dabbling in television in 1930 by hiring Harry Lubcke, a laid-off assistant to Philo Farnsworth, the inventor of television. Lubcke set up a station on the top floor of Don Lee's Cadillac headquarters at Seventh and Bixel streets. The station used the call letters W6XAO. Since TV receivers didn't exist yet, Lubcke designed and provided free schematics to electronics enthusiasts in the Los Angeles area to build their own. After 100 or so had built receivers, W6XAO, Channel 1, began to broadcast an hour a day, six days a week.

Though named for him, Lee, who had died 14 years earlier, never saw this building.

The building was the original home of Los Angeles Channel 2, which is now KCBS-TV, through the 1950s.

In the 1950s, 1313 Vine Street was the home of KHJ-TV and was the studio for Johnny Carson's earliest mid-'50s television appearances before "The Tonight Show," including "Carson's Cellar" and "The New Johnny Carson Show."

It was the original home, from 1964 through 1971, of California Community Television, which grew into PBS station KCET. It was also ABC's headquarters for the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics and the home of many ABC television shows.

Some of the other shows broadcast from 1313 Vine Street over the years were: "Queen for a Day," "Heart's Desire," "What's the Name of That Song?," "Don Lee Music Hall," "My Friend Irma," "Jimmy Wakely Show," "Bill Stulla Show," "Oxydol Show," "Your Claim to Fame," "Joey Bishop Show," "Barney Miller," "Dating Game," and "Newlywed Game."
