RECORDERS! Dear 4 th & 5 th Grade Parents and Students, 09/12/2016 Welcome to the very exciting time in your elementary music career where you get to become experts on a musical instrument! We will spend a large part of the school year learning how to read music, use correct music terminology and play the recorder. We will also be visiting the Seattle Symphony in March 2017 and participating in their Link Up! Program. We learn songs throughout the year and then are able to play them with the symphony. This is a very fun field trip for students and parents! Here are some guidelines and expectations that I have for you: You are responsible for your own recorder, book, and practice log. It is important that you do not lose these items. o You are to have a recorder at home to practice with. One will be provided for you at school. Info on purchasing a recorder is listed below. o You should be practicing 30 minutes per week. This can be broken into 10 minutes, 3 times a week or 5 minutes every day. o Practice, Practice, Practice! There is a practice log attached for the next 3 months. Their solo practice time will be recorded and a parent’s signature is needed at the end of each week to signify that you agree to the time practiced. The log is due the beginning of the next week. I will check their practice sheets and record it in my grade book. This is a weekly homework assignment. They will receive 5 points every week for turning the practice log in on time. The practice log sheets are due every week at the beginning of music class. PLEASE check to see if your child is following through on this. I do not want students to get a late start and feel like they are never catching up. I want your child to be successful, so please help me to get them there by keeping them consistent. I will send out a monthly progress report with their current grade.
