Flag Ceremony Last Friday (8th January) we had a ceremony in our school to celebrate the Easter Rising and were joined by Major General Kieran Brennan (A former pupil of our school!!!), Sgt Kieran Kennedy and Lt. Kealin O Toole, who are members of the Irish Defence Forces. The ceremony got off to a great start with Mr. Kinsella’s class who read the verses of ‘A Nation Once Again’, a song that inspired many people in the rising to fight for freedom. Up next was Miss. Delaney’s class who performed ‘Duilleoga Deasa Deasa’ an Irish poem with actions. After that Mr. Dermody’s class presented a short fact file piece on the main people involved in the rising such as Countess Markievicz and Thomas Mc Donagh. At that time Oisin Cahill, the nominated student from sixth class was called up to read the fourth paragraph of the Proclamation. Then Sgt Kieran Kennedy quizzed us about our national flag before Jacob Newman and Ryan Donnellan got presented with the Irish flag alongside Caoimhe Hennessy, who received a copy of the Proclamation on behalf of our school.

Flag Ceremony

Last Friday (8th January) we had a ceremony in our school to celebrate the Easter Rising and were joined by Major General Kieran Brennan (A former pupil of our school!!!), Sgt Kieran Kennedy and Lt.

After receiving the flag and Proclamation everyone stood and sang Amhráin na bhFiann. To finish off the ceremony there was a question and answer session between the pupils and the army men, about life in the army and The Easter Rising.

The parents, teachers and members of the defence forces then enjoyed some tea, sandwiches and buns in the resource room to bring a lovely end to a beautiful day.
