Pre-Calculus Syllabus

Course description:Pre-Calculus is a course designed for students who have successfully completed the Algebra II with Trigonometry course. This course is considered to be a prerequisite for success in calculus and college mathematics. Algebraic, graphical, numerical, and verbal analyses are incorporated during investigations of the Pre-Calculus content standards.Materials needed:

Mandatory1. 3-ring binder2. Loose-leaf paper3. Tabs/dividers4. Pencils with erasers5. Pocket Folder

Classroom Expectations:1. Show respect for the teacher, yourself and others at all times. 2. Put forth your best effort at all times

3. Be prepared for class each day by bringing ALL materials.

4. Follow directions when given.

5. Pay attention, participate and ask questions

6. Take responsibility for your actions

7. No cell phones & electronic devices

8. Do not cheat, plagiarize, or copy work

9. Use polite and appropriate language

10. Do your best work & turn it in on time

1. Bring all required books and material to class EVERY day.2. Remain seated until the dismissal bell rings. Do not line up at the door or stand at the

windows.3. Writing on desks, walls, or any other object that is in this classroom that does not

belong to you is prohibited.4. Ink pens will not be allowed.5. This class is not your locker.6. You may only move a desk if you have permission to do so.7. When taking a test there will be absolutely no talking until everyone is finished.

Grading:

All chapter tests will be worth 100 points. Most quizzes will be worth 50 points. Homework/class assignments will be taken up on test day. They are worth 10 points

each. The Semester Test will count as 20% of the Final Semester Grade.

Make-up Work:

It is the student’s responsibility to obtain missed assignments from the teacher. If a student knows he/she will be absent, the student should notify the teacher in order to get work that will be missed.

Students should ask classmates for missed notes.

Notebook Requirements:

1. Use tabs to separate each section.2. Organize your notebook in the following way:

a. ACT Prepb. Notesc. Assignmentsd. Paper

3. Use loose-leaf college ruled paper only.4. Put the date in the top right corner of every page.5. Put the title on the first page of your notes for the day.6. Homework should have the date it was assigned and the assignment (i.e.

page/problems)7. Put your name and class somewhere on the outside.8. NO LOOSE PAPERS!

For reference purposes, students will be required to document notes and assignments in a specific way.

Notes: Each day’s notes should begin on a new sheet of paper. The date should ALWAYS be in the upper right corner of the page. The lesson number and name should be on the first line.

Homework/Classwork/Tests: The student’s name, date, and class period should ALWAYS be placed in the upper right corner of assignments. When needed, students should label assignments as directed.

All work should be shown and problems should be worked vertically down the page. Do not make multiple columns of problems. Once you reach the bottom of the page, move to the back.
