The Medical Coding and Billing certificate is designed to prepare students for employment in a medical office or other health-care related business and is limited to only those individuals enrolled in the Cumberland County High School Connections Academy.

The certificate program covers medical terminology; medical ethics, medical coding, billing and insurance; procedure and diagnostic coding. Students will learn accurate coding processes and develop skills applicable in the medical coding and billing field.

Upon completion of this program, students would be able to perform the basic coding skills required in today's medical office or transfer the course credits to the Medical Office Administration program for an Associate of Applied Science degree.

This curriculum prepares individuals for employment in medical and other health-care related offices.

Course work will include medical terminology, information systems, office management, medical coding, billing and insurance, legal and ethical issues, and formatting and word processing. Students will learn administrative and support functions and develop skills applicable in medical environments.

Employment opportunities are available in medical and dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, medical supply companies, and other health-care related organizations.
