Peter Cudd is the current President of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe. Peter is a Senior Researcher within the Centre for Assistive Technology and Connected Healthcare at the University of Sheffield with over 20 years of user centred AT related research experience across everything from powered wheelchairs to digital and robotic technology.Currently most of Peter’s research is working with industry and users to innovate electronic Assistive Technology including Health and teleservices for health and social care with particular interest in dementia, diabetes, obesity, neurological conditions, sensory loss and accessibility. Peter’s research expertise is across user specification of research and development of technologies, user evaluation of health and social care technologies, innovation frameworks and knowledge research.

Dr. Karin Astegger is currently responsible for Quality Management and Research & Development at Lebenshilfe Salzburg, an Austrian service provider for persons with learning disabilities. Representative of the umbrella organisation Lebenshilfe Austria in EASPD, member of the Board and the Policy Impact Group in EASPD. Masters and PhD in psychology, licensed as psychotherapist, clinical and health psychologist. The first part of her professional career she held a research and teaching position at the University of Salzburg, Austria and worked as psychotherapist. Since 1997 she has been working in the sector of social services. Current focus points of her work: quality of social services, quality of life, person centred technology, local participation planning, UN-Convention and equal rights legislation, inclusive research.

Evert-Jan Hoogerwerf is Head of the Sector “Projects and Innovation” of AIAS Bologna Onlus, an association of persons with disabilities and their families and friends. AIAS Bologna is also a medium sized service provider (100 staff) operating different day care centres, a residential centre and three assistive technology centres. Evert-Jan’s professional experience is in (European) project development and management, training, communication, research. Content-wise his areas of expertise are assistive technology, active and healthy ageing, digital exclusion, maltreatment prevention, intercultural and global education. During 2014 and 2015 he was president of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe. Evert-Jan is co-ordinator of the ENTELIS project.

Erik Ballhausen has worked in the field of European education policy and projects for more than 20 years. Currently he is a desk officer at the Education, Audiovisual & Culture Executive Agency. Within the Erasmus+ Programme he has a wide-ranging portfolio of projects in the field of ICT in education, training and youth. Since the launch of the Erasmus+ Programme he has developed a keen interest in projects which try to provide evidence for stakeholders and policy makers in the field of ICT in education. Erik is an ardent IT advocate within the Commission. As such, he is a certified online community manager as well as a trained coach in participatory collaboration methodologies (The Art of Participatory Leadership. Furthermore, he has led (in the function of business design, test and roll-out manager) a wide range of IT projects within the Commission. He co-developed approaches to facilitate the use of IT and is a trainer and coach in this field. More recently he has been involved in the setting-up of collaborative platforms and social media for work with the purpose to improve the knowledge sharing and network capabilities of and within the Commission. Erik has also taken a keen interest in volunteering, which he does both at work as well as in his private life.

First Session

Dimitrios Nikolsky is a graduate of the Department of Sociology at Panteion University of Athens and holds a Postgraduate degree in International Relations with a focus on the European Union's Relations with developing countries and a Master of Arts in Applied Social and Market Research at the University of Westminster. He has worked for multinational companies in London and Athens in the advertising and market research industry. Since 2008, he has been working in the Greek Public Sector, at the Ministry of Health and currently at the Ministry of Labour, Social Security & Social Solidarity in matters of welfare policy and in particular those relating to the protection of people with disabilities. He is the Chair of the Committee of Experts on the Rights of People with Disabilities of the Council of Europe and the national representative at the High Level Group on Disability of the European Commission. He is a regular columnist in newspapers and online press for disability issues.

Klaus Miesenberger is vice Head of Institute Integriert Studieren at the University of Linz, Austria, responsible for R&D and teaching at the institute and the connected service centre for students with disabilities. In 2000 he was guest professor at the Université Claude Bernard, Lyon II. In 2001 he got his professorship (habilitation) in Human-Computer Interaction with a focus on HCI for People with Disabilities. His research and teaching work is related to IT based Assistive Technologies, eAccessibility and Design for All. Dr. Miesenberger is chair and member of different organisations such as the Austrian Computer Society, IFIP, the International Computer Camps, the association UNIABILITY and the Regional Competence Centre IT for People with disabilities (KI-I) for the Regional Government Upper Austria, which he also founded. Dr. Miesenberger was President of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE) and manages now the secretariat of the association.

Alejandro Moledo coordinates EDF advocacy work on policies concerning e-accessibility for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), research and innovation, and EDF involvement in standardization activities. Bachelor's degree with honours in Journalism from University of Valencia (Spain, 2005-2010), Mr. Moledo also holds a Master's degree in political and corporate communication from University of Navarra and George Washington University (Spain and US, 2011-2012). During his bachelor’s studies he worked as communication officer for a political group within the parliament of the Valencia Region (2009 and 2010). After working as a journalist in digital media and an internship in a Communication agency in Andorra, he started working at Political Intelligence (Madrid) in 2012, a European public affairs company before joining the European Disability Forum in 2013. Mr Moledo is member of the Spanish Blind Organisation (ONCE), for which he worked as a journalist and regional representative of young visually impaired people inside the organisation (2008-2011).

Axel Leblois is the Founder and President of G3ict – the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies, an advocacy initiative launched under the auspices of UNDESA in December 2006 to promote the ICT accessibility provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), with the participation of industry, governments, disability advocacy organizations and United Nations agencies. Over the past ten years, G3ict has established itself as the leading international source of references and good practices in implementing digital accessibility policies among States Parties to the CRPD with publications, web resources and in-country programs developed in cooperation with United Nations agencies and the active support of both IT industry leaders and organizations of persons with disabilities. In July 2016, in order to address the gap in ICT accessibility skills which hinders the implementation of ICT accessibility, G3ict acquired IAAP, the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, which offers training and professional certification in ICT accessibility around the world. Prior to creating G3ict, Axel Leblois spent over 20 years at the helm of information technology companies in the United States. Axel Leblois is a native of France and has lived in the United States for over thirty years. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris.

Second Session

Margarita Gulevska has a BA in philology. She joined Open the Windows in June 2006, first as a volunteer, than as a project and communication officer. She is actively involved in development, coordination and implementation of different projects related to assistive technology use in mainstream education in Macedonia. Also she has an extended experience in public relations. Margarita has participated in three researches for needs assessment of assistive technology use in education: Nationwide research to assess the needs for assistive technology in mainstream primary schools in 2010, in secondary schools in 2014, and the Policy Position Paper: Assistive information technology for improved inclusiveness of the education.

David Hofer is General Manager of the not-for-profit organization LIFEtool and as such he is responsible for the development of Assistive Technologies and Special Education APPs. He established a not-for-profit counselling network with centres in Austria, Serbia and the Czech and initiated 4 well accepted Symposiums in Linz, Prague and Zagreb. David has furthermore managed to draw up a worldwide sales network for LIFEtool Solutions like the IntegraMouse Plus® with about 100 partners in 40 countries. He holds a degree in Business Education from the Vienna University of Economics and is Board Member of the KI-I, based at the Johannes-Kepler University of Linz.

Sarah Jane, David Dean, Alan Byrne and Sarah Gavra BolandThe Self-Advocates from Saint John of God Community Services Liffey Region, Ireland have been very busy over the past few years embracing technology especially mobile touch screen technology to support themselves to be more independent. At the Entelis conference self-advocates David Dean and Sarah-Jane Lavin will present how they are using technology every day and some of the projects they have been involved with in Saint John of God Services. They will be supported by Alan Byrne, Supervisor in a Day Centre and Sarah Boland, Assistive Technology Facilitator for the Liffey Region. They also showcased at last year’s conference in Dublin Castle The title of their presentation was Technology: doing IT for ourselves. They got great feedback from the audience and have been invited to present in other services throughout the country.

Steve Barnard started working for Hft in 1992 and has a background working as a practitioner, manager and director supporting people with learning and physical disabilities. Steve has taken the lead on Hft’s work with Personalised Technology (PT), leading the PT team, forming strategic partnerships and raising awareness of how PT can help to improve independence and safety for people with learning disabilities. Steve has been instrumental in the development of Hft’s Smart House and is currently looking at how PT can be used to improve the health and wellbeing for people with learning disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

A dedicated educationalist, Andrea Solander-Groß is experienced in the field of education, employment and vocational training. Especially interested in the hotel and food industry her work focuses on the internationalisation of educational processes. Andrea is a lecturer and trainer of students and teachers. Currently, she is looking at how the self-assessment framework for schools -developed in the ENTELIS project- can be implemented in German schools. Andrea works for the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB), which is a European umbrella association whose members are state associations, associations, coordinating institutes of education and educational providers at a national, regional and local level. The objective work done by the EVBB is the qualitative improvement of vocational education and training in European countries and an increase in the efforts being carried out in education at a European level.

Anne Kärki is at the moment the principal lecturer and researcher at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK). The university research activity has been focused on accessibility and development as particular attention is paid to equality, non-discrimination and tolerance. The other major research interest areas are also ageing and welfare technology, where both the users and developers of services are in the core of the development activities.She has been acting in the RDI (research, development and innovation) field for more than 10 years and has been responsible of several international and national projects in the field of social and health service sector. Her main research interest in rehabilitation area is person centered – rehabilitation and health technology as well as evidence-based rehabilitation. The last years she has been acting as the chair and vice chair of RDI leaders (UAS Universities of Applied Sciences) network in Finland.

Katerina Mavrou is an Assistant Professor in Inclusive Education and Assistive Technology at the European University Cyprus. Her background is in special/inclusive education in primary schools in Cyprus (teacher and assistive technology coordinator). Her research interests include (assistive) technology and inclusive education in all aspects of user-centred evaluation, implementation and professionals’ collaboration, as well as policy and education for inclusion and ICT-AT. Her research record includes European commission reports, referred journal publications, book chapters in edited volumes, an edited book volume and presentations in international conferences. She has been involved in local and international collaborative projects and networks (eg ANED, ENTELIS, EASTIN), and professional and academic Associations such as AAATE and ISAAC. She is also a member of the Editorial Board for both the Journal Technology and Disability and the Journal of Assistive Technologies.

Mr Renzo Andrich, MSc. Background in Electrical Engineering. Since 1981 working at Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi in Milano: until 2002 as responsible of the SIVA Unit (Assistive Technology Assessment and Information Service), currently as leader of the Assistive Technology Research team within the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT). Researcher and project leader in various national and European projects. Director of the Assistive Technology Postgraduate Courses at the Catholic University, in Milano and in Roma. President from 2002 to 2003 of AAATE (Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe). Head of the Editorial Team of the SIVA Portal (the Italian Assistive Technology Portal www.portale.siva.it) and President of the European Assistive Technology Information Network (EASTIN www.eastin.eu). Member of the Editorial committee of the Journal “Technology and Disability” (IOS Press). He served as project coordinator in three EU-funded project: EUSTAT (Empowering Users through Assistive Technology, within the 4th Framework Programme), EASTIN (within the eTEN Programme) and ETNA (European Thematic Network on Assistive Information and Communication Technology, within the CIP ICT-PSP programme).
