Most people do not realize that U.S. Coast Guard Veterans, especially WWIICoasties were the ones who piloted Landing Craft to the beaches during the

Normandy Invasion, also suffer with PTSD. Hundreds of the troops they were

ferrying onto the beaches, got cut down by machine-gun fire. These Coasties

then had to lift the dead or wounded back on their landing craftand tend to the

wounded. In addition to all of these, they were also exposed to enemy gunfire

from the German bunkers on the beach.

The thing about it, is that he did not realize or consider that his deeds were the

possible cause of his PTSD all these years of living hell, until I dug it from himthrough many conversations.. He did not feel that he was worthy of being

recognized for his Patriotism. While they were sailing close to shore, they got

word that a German sub was under them. A larger ship was called in to drop

explosive charges, which disabled the sub, forcing it to surface, so Johns crew

apprehended the subs crew. Its a long story, but suffice to say that

I helped such a WWII Coastie with his claim and I am very glad that he got 100%

service-connected in approximately four months, which is hard to believe, in

    itself.

Vietnam Veterans Sue Military Over PTSD

Military.com, 3 March 2014The U.S. military has failed to upgrade the discharges of Vietnam veterans

who developed post-traumatic stress disorder, resulting in stigma and lossof benefits, according to a federal lawsuit filed Monday. Five Vietnamveterans and three veterans organizations are suing the Army, the Navyand the Air Force in Connecticut. The veterans say they suffered PTSDbefore it was recognized and were discharged under other-than-honorableconditions that made them ineligible for benefits. The lawsuit, which seeksclass-action status to represent tens of thousands of veterans, says themilitary has systematically denied applications for upgrades involvingevidence of PTSD. Unfortunately, the Pentagon has refused to correct the

decades of injustice experienced by tens of thousands of veterans whosuffer from PTSD but were discharged before it was a diagnosablecondition, V Prentice, a law student intern in the Veterans Legal ServicesClinic at Yale Law School, which represents the plaintiffs, said in a newsrelease. This action seeks to compel appropriate action by the military andto finally secure justice for these veterans.Paul Sutton "Dominus Fortissima Turris"The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails.Land of the Free Because of the Brave
