Vidzeme is one of four Latvian regions. It is located in the north east of the country. It borders the Latgale region in the east and Zemgale region in the south with Riga to the west, Estonia to the north and Russia to the east. Vidzeme is special for its variety of nature, rich cultural heritage and folk traditions. There are picturesque vistas, the beauty of rivers and lakes, medieval castles and manors. Here are chances to explore numerous nature trails with sandstone cliffs, and take walks along the Vidzeme seaside with its san-dy and rocky stretches. Important cultural and architectural locations are in Cēsis, Sigulda, Limbaži, Valmiera, Alūksne, Gulbene, Valka, Madona and Ogre. Many recreational acti-vities attract tourists to adventure parks, water tourism, cyc-ling, skiing and more.
