Recording
The entries and exits to and from a company
area are recorded from video cameras and
displayed on a PC screen.
The system allows depending on the
ressources (PC and network) „infinite“
cameras.
Therefore the security staff is able to
overview the events at the gates. For detailed
information the system allows full resolution
of the camera signals.
The license plates of cars approaching the
gate are read automatically and a predefined
reaction is started.
The decision of reaction is also possible by a
connected foreign system.
Therefore it is possible for cars in a white list to
open a barrier automatically and store the
event with image, date, time and license plate
on disc.
Cars in a black list will generate an alarm.
All events at the gates are stored with images
in a special database.
Therefore the operator is able to display all
transactions from the past.
Different searching possibilities allow a fast
access to the events.
It is possible to analyse the database with
statistical methods.

Videosystem CAR-READER
Overview
The system works with at least one video camera installed at the entry and exit gates which is / are
connected to the Windows PC running the CAR-READER software.
Recommended hardware: Standard PC (E.g. at least 3GHz speed, 2 GB RAM) with MS Windows
Optional: External encoder to digitize analog video camera signals

A special camera solution installed at a gate
The license plate cameras and the optics should
be focused in a way to get a maximal resolution
and a proper geometry of the plate.
An additional overview camera may show the
driver of the car.

Automatic Scanning of the Plates
The main feature of the CAR-READER software is to read automatically the license plates
of the cars with methods of image analyses.
The system can read almost all countries of Europe.
The system achieves a high recognition rate. This result depends on the quality of the
license plates or environmental conditions.
Possible issues in case of special environmental conditions
Elution
Reflexions
Not infrared light reflecting plates at night
Bended plates
Dirt, grate
Not teached foreign plates
Screws
Incorrect position of the car
Performance optimization for day and night installations:
1. Infrared light
2. IP Cameras, high sensitive, black/white operation
Other issues: snow, very strong rain, license plates not fixed in the middle of the car
Please note: These issues only arise in exceptional cases.

Recording the Entry and Exit Events
Event: Vehicle approaching to an entry or exit barrier
Storage mode: Entries and exit events are stored with the corresponding images on
the hard drive
Example: Storage capacity of a 100 Gbyte HDD - approx. 2.000.000
events with one corresponding image with 50 kB
The systems works with a ring memory or stops recording after
achieving the full capacity of the HDD
Fileformat of the images: JPEG
System configuration: It is possible to define when or how an event should be stored

3) External TCP/IP notification

Optional Interface to Management Systemes
Standalone management system: The CAR-READER handles entries and exits to
and from a company area by license plate in spite
of ticketing by itself.
Seamless integration: In companies / institutions often exits an access
control system for the staff - CAR-READER offers
an interface to connect both systems together.
Advantages: 1) Access to the license plates
2) Access to the images of the entries and exits
3) Automatically opening of barriers
4) Automatically setting of alarms
5) Enhanced searching possibilities

Case story:
In the image above you can see a screen of an application
showing the installation of the CAR-READER program on a
PC of the Siemens factory security office.
The applications are seamless integrated and communicate by
SQL data base.

For an automatically check of the cars a personalized list is created
and the system reaction is defined.
The system reads one or twolined plates from Europe.
We can‘t guarantee a reading result of 100 percent.
This depends on conditions shown above.
The system is able to show all video sources at the same time.
The number and performance is depending of the hardware, PC
and network.
In spite of a conventional video recorder the live images are not
stored continuously but always when an event is triggered
The cars which should provocate an alarm are stored in a separate
black list.
Several cars can be combined to a group and a number of spaces
is assignable. In addition to it profiles are possible for access
control.
Entries of the event database can be filtered, displayed and are
exportable.
The program functions are saved by pass words.
You can allocate different program functions for every user by pass
word.
All system problems and transactions of the registrated operators
are stored in a list for control reasons.
For drivers of special cars the system allows to send free defined
messages to station displays.
Optionally the CAR-READER system allows communication with
third party systems.
Integrated ticket system
Optionally the CAR-READER system allows the integration of a
ticket system based on transponders. The vehicle access is then
possible by license plate or ticket.
