Your itineraryDay 1: Board your overnight flight to England!

Day 2: London

Arrive in LondonRanging from the North Sea in the east to the playing fields of Eton inthe west, London covers an area of some 620 square miles and ishome to over 8 million people. Prepare to observe the stunningarchitecture, vibrant street life and royal majesty of this bustlingmetropolis.

Walking tour of LondonStroll through the heart of London on your Tour Director-led walkingtour, which begins along the banks of the River Thames. As you walkalong the ancient embankment, note that these shadowy waters gavethe city its name, which derives from Llyn-Dyn, Celtic for “city of thelake.” Walk along the Strand and see the spot from which alldistances to London are measured. Enter Trafalgar Square, whereyou're sure to meet the world's most famous pigeons, and pause atNelson's column, a symbol of Britain's once unrivaled naval power.Continue on to Leicester Square and end your walk at chic CoventGarden, where street performers (or “buskers”) amuse the livelycrowds. (The exact walking route may vary, depending on your hotellocation and the day's other activities.)

Day 3: London

Visit the Imperial War MuseumUnique in its devotion to the history of warfare during the 20th centuryrather than any particular conflict, the museum's exhibits range fromtanks and aircraft to personal letters and ration books. They includefilms, photographs and sound recordings, and some of the 19th and20th century's best-known paintings.

Visit the Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill MuseumWalk through the underground rooms used by Winston Churchillduring World War II. Since air raids were expected in London,Churchill needed to continue his war efforts in safety. The rooms wereconstructed in 1938 and designed to protect the War Cabinet from anew threat: aerial bombardment. The underground facility included ahospital, a canteen, a shooting range and Churchill's bedroom, with adirect line to the White House in Washington, D.C. See the veryrooms from which the war was directed, including the Cabinet Room,where the War Cabinet met to strategize, and the Map Room, wherethe original maps still line the walls. (If group reservations are notavailable, the group will visit HMS Belfast instead.)

Day 4: London

Excursion to Bletchley ParkToday travel to Bletchley Park, an area codenamed during theSecond World War as "Station X". This was the center of the Britisheffort to break the complex "German Enigma" code.

Day 5: London | Normandy region

Travel to PortsmouthJourney to Portsmouth, the only island city in the United Kingdom andthe headquarters of the British Navy for 500 years. This afternoon,board a ferry headed across the English Channel to Caen, Francewhere you'll spend the night.

Visit the D-Day MuseumVisit the D-Day Museum, dedicated to that fateful day on June 6,1944, in which the Allies raided the shores of Normandy. TheMuseum focuses solely on covering all aspects of that attack, whichhelped to end WWII.

Board a ferry to Caen and travel to the Normandy regionDisembark your ferry and travel to Normandy, location of many of thebattles that turned the course of World War II. Despite its connectionwith major military events, Normandy is also a region of scenic beautywith elegant landscapes and patchwork fields as well as the majestyof its two major towns-Caen and Rouen. (Dinner is included on theferry this evening.)

Day 6: Normandy region

Visit the Utah Beach D-Day MuseumSee the site of the US landing on the 6th of June 1944. The Alliesneeded a deep water harbor in order to bring supplies to the troopsashore. Therefore, the prime objective of the US troops stationed atUtah Beach was to capture the port of Cherbourg, which became theworld's biggest port used for military purposes. Utah Beach was oneof the two American landing beaches used during the NormandyInvasion of June 1944.

Visit the Normandy BeachesAt daybreak on June 6, 1944, the Allies' D-Day landings took place,sparking the largest sea-borne invasion in military history and one ofthe bravest acts of World War II. As you walk on the same shores thatwitnessed so much courage and sacrifice over half a century ago, youcan still see shelled out craters on the rocky cliffs alongside theoccasional remains of German bunkers.

Visit the American CemeteryVisit the final resting place of 9,386 American military dead, most ofwhom gave their lives during the landings and ensuing operations ofWorld War II. The site also includes a memorial commemorating thesoldiers and a chapel bearing the poignant words: “These endured alland gave all that justice among nations might prevail and thatmankind might enjoy freedom and inherit peace.”

Day 7: Normandy region | Paris

Visit the Musée Airborne St. Mere EgliseVisit the Musée Airborne in St. Mere Eglise to get a greaterunderstanding of how the control of this key city directly affected theoutcome of the war.

Travel to ParisWelcome to Paris, cosmopolitan City of Light. Over the centuries,Paris has grown to become the undisputed center of France, and oneof the world's most important cities both culturally and politically.Equally famed for its high fashion, awe-inspiring museums andelegant cuisine, Paris has also been a center of theater, literature andphilosophy throughout the ages.

Walking tour of the Latin QuarterYour Tour Director will lead you on a walking tour of Paris' famousLatin Quarter. Featuring a diversity of restaurants, the Latin Quarter isjust a short walk down the Rue de la Seine from the museum area.

Visit Sainte ChapelleMostly known for its extraordinary stained glass, this small Gothiccathedral was built by Louis IX in 1246 with the purpose of housingJesus Christ's thorn crown brought in from Constantinople. Whateverits original intention, the church draws visitors today mostly to marvelat the biblical scenes brilliantly glowing in vivid color on the 15 stainedglass windows that circumvent the small chapel.

Seine River cruiseThis evening, take a narrated river cruise along the Seine. As yourboat glides from one graceful bridge to the next, sit back and gaze atthe illuminated landmarks of Paris as they pan into view.

Day 8: Paris | Bastogne

Travel to BastogneBegin today by heading to Bastogne, where the Battle of Bastogneoccurred at the end of 1944 through the beginning of 1945 and was amajor turning point in WWII.

Guided sightseeing of BastogneUpon arrival in Bastogne, your local guide will show you the richhistory of this southern Belgian city. This small Belgian city wasattacked by German forces, but, under the direction of the famousAmerican General Patton, the Allies emerged victorious. On your touryou will see the Bastogne Barracks, the Mardasson Memorial and theremains of foxholes in the surrounding forests.

Visit the Bastogne War MuseumSituated next to the Mardasson Monument in Bastogne, this museumoffers a unique chance to look at history. Devoted to World War II withspecific ties to the "Battle of the Bulge," this commemorative centertells the story of the Second World War in Belgium in an interactiveand modern way.

Day 9: Bastogne | Nuremberg

Travel to NurembergContinue on to Nuremberg, home of the Nazi War Trials followingWWII. While Nuremberg has a very dark history going back to thedays of the Third Reich, the city itself has been beautifully restoredand now stands as proof of Germany's resolve and ability to changeas a nation.

Day 10: Nuremberg | Munich

Guided sightseeing of NurembergYour local guide will take you through the unique history ofNuremberg. See the Zeppelinfeld, where Hitler staged huge rallies,now a park; and the Albrecht Dürer House, which houses works andmementos of the famous painter, and stands as a reminder of themedieval splendor of Nuremberg's past.

Visit the Nuremberg Justice PalaceMade famous for being the setting of the post-WWII NurembergTrials, the Nuremberg Palace of Justice houses multiple levels of theNuremberg court system. The famous courtroom number 600, theexact room of the war trials, is still in use today.

Visit the Documentation CentreExperience firsthand through photos, films, and exhibits the richhistory of Nuremberg and the Nazi party rally grounds. Walk throughthe grounds to experience the rally memorial.

Travel to MunichWelcome to Munich! This center of culture boasts over 45 museums,10 university buildings and two opera houses. The city is also home tothe Olympic center with full facilities and more than the occasionalbeer-hall.

Third Reich walking tourIn 1919, Germany was emerging from World War I as a defeated andhumiliated nation with Munich in the grips of hyperinflation andBavaria dominated by revolution and assassination. Out of this fertilesoil of chaos rose the Nazi movement and one of history`s mostpowerful dictators, Adolf Hitler. During this walking tour, we willexplore the dark side of Munich's history as the birth place of Nazism.Follow the growth of the movement from its first mass meeting at theHofbräuhaus, to its failed attempt to seize power at theFeldherrnhalle. Visit the site of mass party rallies at Königsplatz andstop in the Hofgarten to talk about The White Rose resistancemovement. The tour covers all important facts and sites that played arole in the origin of this dark chapter, that ended with the beautiful cityof Munich in ruins.

Dinner at the HofbrauhausDrop in at the world famous Hofbrauhaus. The original Hofbrauhauswas built in the 16th-century by the Bavarian Duke, Wilhelm V. TheDuke realized that he was spending too much money having beerdelivered in to the city, so, his solution was to have a brewery builtnext to the court. His plan was a success, and 5 centuries later thebeer continues to flow. Enjoy the traditional Bavarian music as adirndl-wearing waitress serves you your dinner. (Please Note: If theHofbrauhaus is unavailable, your group will enjoy dinner at anotherlocal brewery.)

Day 11: Munich

Excursion to DachauOnce merely another sleepy German village, Dachau has since 1933gained notoriety as Germany's first Nazi concentration camp. Today,the old administration building houses a museum documenting therise of Hitler and the horrors of camp life. Commemorative chapelsand memorials have also been built on the site, which stands as aneternal memorial to those who endured life here until liberation byAllied forces.

Visit Neuschwanstein CastleVisit “Mad” King Ludwig's fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, thereal-life model for the Disney World castles. Ponder the young king'smysterious death as you learn the story of one of Europe's mosteccentric rulers. King Ludwig so preferred dreams over reality that hisservants could address him only from behind a screen. In fact, theoriginal plans for the castle were drawn up by a theater set designer,not an architect.
