    DG4V-3 models are directsolenoid operated four-waydirectional control valves.Their primary function in ahydraulic circuit is to directfluid flow. This, in turn, woulddetermine the direction of

    movement of a fluid cylinder,or the direction of rotation ofa fluid motor.

    Port connections are madeby mounting the valve ona subplate or manifold. Thevalve has wet armature typesolenoids.

    Electrical connections tothe valve are made in theelectrical wiring housing orthru various plug-in connec-tors such as a DIN 43650type coil.

    Good hydraulic design prac-tice suggests that detentedmodels be mounted withlongitudinal axis horizon-tal. Other models may bemounted in any position.

    Operating considerations

    1. Dependent on the applica-tion and the system filtration,any sliding spool valve if heldshifted under pressure forlong periods of time, maystick and not move readilydue to fluid residue forma-tion. It may therefore needto be cycled periodically toprevent this from happening.

    2. Surges of fluid in a com-mon tank line serving twoor more valves can be of

    sufficient magnitude to causeinadvertent shifting of thesevalves. This is particularlycritical in no-spring detentedmodels, separate drain linesare necessary.

    It is necessary to ensure that the unit is wired up in accordance with the connection arrangements shown above.For effective protection the users electrical cabinet, the valve subplate or manifold and the cable screens should beconnected to efficient ground points.

    In all cases both valve and cable should be kept as far away as possible from any sources of electromagneticradiation such as cables carrying heavy current, relays and certain kinds of portable radio transmitters, etc. Difficultenvironments could mean that extra screening may be necessary to avoid the interference.

    1. All valves except types22 and 52 spools havingsimultaneous equal flowrates from P to A or Band from B or A to T andS3, S4, S5 (limit switch)models.

    2. Valves with type 22 spoolshaving flow from P to A orB, the other being plugged.T is drained at all times.

    3. Valves with type 52 spoolshaving one service port (Aor B as appropriate) con-nected to the full bore endof a 2:1 area ratio double-acting cylinder and theother to the annulus end.

    4. Consult Eaton, withapplication details, if eitherof the following usagesare required:

    (a) Single flow path, i.e. P toA, P to B, A to T or B to T.

    When using low power coils(coil designations *L in modelcode) the maximum flow is

    reduced from values given onthis page (graphs 4, 5 and 6)by up to:

    70% for DC coils

    50% for AC coils

    Subplates, ConnectionPlates and MountingSurfaces

    General description

    This range of subplates andauxiliary connection platesare for use with size 3 valves.Optional BSPF or SAE/UNFpipe thread connections areavailable.

    The subplates fall into fivegroups:

    Single station subplateswith either side or rearentry ports for connectingto the main system.

    Multi-station manifoldshaving from two to sixstations. The two serviceports per station are ar-ranged along one side butthe pressure and tank linesare internally connected inparallel to each station.

    Tapping plates for insertionunder modules or valves toprovide access to servicelines, e.g. for pressuregage connection.

    Cross-over plates for inter-connecting two sets ofservice lines at the top ofmodule stacks when direc-tional valves are not fitted.

    Blanking plate for termi-nating a valve station e.g.when the station is not tobe used until later.

    The 2 to 6 multi-station sub-plates, when used togetherwith VickersSystemStakvalves, provide very compactcontrol assemblies.

    Plates having machined trap-ezoidal O-ring recesses aresupplied complete with VitonO-rings.

    On all models, the size 03mounting face includes adrilled hole (for a location pin)in conformance with ANSI/B93.7M) and (NFPA) size03. All Eaton size 3 valvesand auxiliary plates containa matching location pin toensure correct orientation ofthe mounting faces.

    Temperature Limits

    Proper fluid condition is es-sential for long and satisfac-tory life of hydraulic compo-nents and systems. Hydraulicfluid must have the correctbalance of cleanliness, mate-rials and additives for protec-tion against wear of compo-nents, elevated viscosity andinclusion of air.

    Essential information onthe correct methods fortreating hydraulic fluid isincluded in Eaton publica-tion 561;Vickers Guide toSystemic ContaminationControl, available from yourlocal Eaton distributor or bycontacting Eaton, Incorpo-rated. Recommendations onfiltration and the selection ofproducts to control fluid con-dition are included in 561.

    Recommended cleanlinesslevels, using petroleum oilunder common conditions,are based on the highest

    fluid pressure levels in thesystem and are coded in thechart below. Fluids other thanpetroleum, severe service cy-cles or temperature extremesare cause for adjustment ofthese cleanliness codes. SeeEaton's Vickerspublication561 for exact details.

    Eaton products, as any com-ponents, will operate withapparent satisfaction in fluidswith higher cleanliness codesthan those described. Othermanufacturers will often rec-ommend levels above thosespecified.

    Experience has shown, how-ever, that life of any hydrauliccomponents is shortenedin fluids with higher cleanli-ness codes than those listedbelow. These codes havebeen proven to provide a longtrouble-free service life forthe products shown, regard-less of the manufacturer.

    Fire resistant fluids usuallyhave higher specific gravitiesthan oil. The specific gravityof a fluid may be obtainedfrom its producer.

    Fluid Cleanliness
