GeneralEducationCourse ARQU3121: course fulfills the GeneralEducationART
requirement for studentsfromallmajors.Itisalso arequiredcourseforArchitecture
Students. Fivesectionswereofferedduringfirstsemester20112012, 143 newlyadmitted
students inthe2011cohortparticipated, ofwhich41wereArchitecturefreshmenstudents..
Integratingassessmentofinformationcompetenciesinthearchitecturecurriculumina
systematicway
commenced
formally
during
first
semester
2011
2012.
Steps
were
taken
in
previoussemesters,suchas,preparingstudentmodules,meetingwithfaculty,preparingweb
pagesandinstruments,offeringfacultyworkshopsonrubrics,approvinglearningobjectives,
amongothers.
Duringfirstsemester20112012 allprofessorsofferingARQU3121participatedinassigningan
essayaspartof courserequirements.Students presentedafirstversionof theessay priorto
takingtheinformationcompetenciesmodules(pre) andresubmitted afinalversionafter
takingthemodules(post).ThemodulesaddressedACRLs fivestandardsasexpressedinthe
documentInformationLiteracyCompetencyStandardsforHigherEducation. Themodules weremadeavailableviatheInternetfromNovember22toDecember17, 2011.Most studentsin
the5sectionsofARQU3121participated. Finalessaygradeswereevaluatedwithrespectto
expectedoutcomes.
Assessmentdatawillbeanalyzedtodeterminestudentsachievementscomparedto
establishedcriteria. Onesectionhasalreadyprovidedlearningresultswhich evidencedan
improvementinapplyinginformationcompetencies. Analysisofstudentscoresand
performanceintakingthemodules, hasbroughtaboutchangestomodulesandinstructions
givento
students
in
the
process.
Some TransformingActionsunderwayorplannedareasfollows:
1. Afocalgroupwillbeconvokedtoanalyzetheprocessandmaterialsusedfromtheperspectiveoffacultyandstudents.

3.The
undergraduate
coordinator
working
with
faculty
is
revising
the
ARQU
3121
syllabus
orofficialcoursecontenttointegratethelearningobjectivesoninformation
competenciesand documentagreements. This shouldbecompletedduringthis
secondsemester.
4. Notallstudentswentthroughthemodules,thisfindingwillbeanalyzed toproposechangesifnecessary.
5. Informationcompetenciesarebeingintegratedin ARQU6145agraduatecourse.
