VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS WEST SACRAMENTO POST #8762 905 Drever Street, West Sacramento, CA 95691 (916) 371-7245 January/February 2015 Comrades: Awards night went very well. Gordon Work gave out the awards for Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen. Patriots Pen winners: 1 st Mariya Tkanchenko, 2 nd Petra Grace Tafoya, and 3rd Muctar Sanne. I did the awards for: Teacher of the Year that went to Erika Alvarado, EMT Rick Garvey, Fire Fighter was James Staley and Police Andrea Donahue. We had a very well attended event with lots of proud parents and family as well as members. I would like to thank the Ladies Auxiliary for all their help with this annual event. Also thank you to Brian Ferguson for filming the event and posting it on our VFW website. Our Post hosted the VOD breakfast this year for Department. There were 13 girls and 2 boys. The reason for fifteen VOD’s is because we are down from 25 District to 15 in the entire State of California. The kids were very grateful for the breakfast. Robyn King took a lot of pictures that she will be posting them on the VFW website. Thanks again to the best Ladies Auxiliary a Post could have. I attended the State VFW Voice of Democracy awards at the Hilton Hotel. I would like to thank the Post for paying for my dinner. The winners of these Districts are very fortunate to be given this opportunity to participate in the entire trip and entertainment provided. They were even welcomed with a special sign on the Senate floor and were able to sit in the Senate seats. This was quite an experience for these young people. They really enjoyed themselves. I enjoyed the Awards Banquet and I was proud of our youth for the wonderful job they did. It shows you that there is a future for our youth. The winner was from the 17 th District, sorry but I did not write her name down, but she was an amazing young lady.
