BMR Hollowshaft motors are to have precision balancing to ensure premium performance and long motor life for each and every motor. We test our motors with vibration monitors to detect different levels of vibration to allow our machinist to make corrections if necessary. All rotating parts are balanced individually before the motor is assembled. In certain circumstances even if all parts are balanced to normal tolerances, when assembled to form a completemotor and rotate in the same direction, this may cause cumulative error. Therefore we test the complete unit as wellto a precision balance of .00085” to ensure a smooth well balanced motor.

The demand for using variable frequency drives in pumping application is on the rise. Even though there are many advantages and benefits using VFD’s with vertical hollow shaft motors, there are also disadvantages such as electrical fluting causes your bearing to have premature failure. In order to prevent this BMR USA offers the options to prevent the electrical current from entering our thrust and guide bearings.

WhaT Is ElEcTrIcal fluTInG?Electrical fluting occurs when a current is passed through the motor bearing instead of a grounded source. PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) drive switching frequencies result in undesirable motor shaft currents, a side effect that causes bearing damage within the motor through pitting and fluting. The audible noise generated by the damaged bearings is unacceptable and motor failure soon follows.

1. Insulated Bearing Mount - By isolating the bearings with insulation, it is possible to prevent motor shaft currents from entering the bearing race and damaging the bearing balls. Some motor manufacturers cover the bearing seats with glass impregnated tape, others coat the entire bearing housing with ceramic material, some even coat the bearings themselves.

2. Shaft Grounding Kit - With this method of diverting motor shaft currents away from the bearings, a guide bearing grounding ring is installed that is in contact with the shaft. The guide bearing protection ring conducts shaft currents to the motors ground and doesn’t allow the electrical current from entering the lower bearing causing premature bearing failure.

Trouble free Bearing operation is assured with visible oil levels, low friction bronze bearing retainer, precision cast bearing housing, deep oil bath, and precision balanced bearings.

BEarInG opTIons for EXTra hIGh ThrusT applIcaTIonsWhere higher thrust requirements exists, BMR USA offers options to match the thrust requirements for long termoperation. We took provisions for stacking bearings by having a “spacer bearing” need only be removed and a matched bearing installed in its place to make an easy modification. For even a higher thrust demand, sphericalroller bearings with copper cooling tubes are furnished.

oIl fIll pluGThaT rEQuIrEs no ToolsBMR USA oil fill plug operates on an expansion – contraction principal. This plug requires no tools, fits snugly and tightly. It prevents air contamination or moisture from intruding into the oil. The handle grip turned in one direction will contract for easy removal. Turned in the opposite direction, it expands to give airtight closure.

When motor current ceases, water column receding to normal water level causes pump backspin. The preferred ball type non reverse ratchet is the best design to prevent this backspin.Possibility of reverse operation tounscrew the coupling of the pump shaft is also eliminated. The ball type consists of an outer rotating member with a series of channels positioned at a compound angle outwardly andupwardly. When the motor starts,the balls rise by centrifugal action free the of the ratchet. When the motor is shut off and as the motor slows down, the free – rolling balls drop down their respective channels, instantly locking against reversal of the pump shaft when the motor reaches a dead stop. BMR USA ratchets are made fromductile iron and the balls are madefrom durable steel.

LOCK IS POSITIVE & RUGGEDNote that no pins or springs are required in the “ball type” non reverse ratchet. Pins are liable to foul with oil scum and “hang up” whereas free-rolling balls require nolubrication, and are always positivein action.

BALLS LOCK WHEN MOTOR STOPSGravity pulls balls downwardly just before rotation ceases. When motor stops dead, one or two balls (depending on motor size) lock ratchet.

All BMR USA 5800 SERIES models comestandard with double stacked 7236A 40degree angular contact bearings for 175%EHT. Options are available for sphericalroller bearings with copper cooling tubes upon order to achieve 300% EHT.

In large frame motors higher heat will be generated, this requires larger air generation and more cooling surface. BMR has designed our larger framed motors to have AIR DUCTED ROTOR AND STATORS to draw air into the hollow rotor core that is air ducted to increase surface space.

BMR 5800 SERIES are protected with BMRINVERTER SHIELD. Our windings have an all U.L approved insulation system, are treated with a non hydroscopic epoxy varnish, has double VPI treatment, and is coated with atropicalization varnish. This combination has proven to provide protection from largeelectrical stresses, corrosive air particles,and moisture that may cause winding failure.

Anti corrosive rodent screens are externally put on exhaust and intake pathways toprotect against reptiles, rodents, andenvironmental debris that cause failureor damage to the motor
