IntroductionScopeandPurposeThisdocumentdescribesthesystemrequirements,installationandconfigurationstepsfortheUilaVirtualInformationController(vIC)andVirtualSmartTap(vST).ItisassumedthatthereaderhasalreadyinstalledHyper-VandisfamiliarwiththeconfigurationsandoperationsofHyper-V.ArchitectureOverviewThediagrambelowshowstheUilaManagementandAnalyticsSystemarchitecture(UMAS)anditsrelationshiptoVirtualInformationController(vIC)andUilaVirtualSmartTaps(vST).
VirtualArchitectureTheUilaManagementandAnalyticssystem(UMAS)isabigdatastoreandanalyticsenginethatisdesignedtomonitoruptothousandsofservers.TheUMAScanrecorddatainminuteresolutionswhilemaintainingrealtimeresponsiveness.Thebuilt-inredundancyoffershighavailability,removesdowntimeandreducesmaintenanceoverhead.

TheVirtualInformationController(vIC)integratestotheHyper-V.ThevICisdeployedasaguestVMwhereitcollectsnetwork,storageandcomputeperformancemetricsthataremaintainedbytheHyper-V.ThisisthencombinedwiththedatafromtheVirtualSmartTaps(vST)andtransmittedtotheUMAS.VirtualSmartTaps(vST)arealsodeployedinthehostasanefficientlydesignedsmallfoot-printguestVMwithembeddedDeepPacketInspection(DPI)technologytoidentifyuniqueapplicationsandtheirattributes.vST’smeasureapplicationresponsetimeandcollectnetworkperformancedata.ThevSTdoesnotexamineorstorethepackets,thuseliminatingtheriskofexposingsensitivedata.
