8 – Cultivating an Intimate Relationship with the Lord

1 – Keeping in the Presence of the Lord

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. (Genesis 28:15)

The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. (2 Samuel 22:31)

He held fast to the LORD and did not cease to follow Him; he kept the commands the LORD had given Moses. And the LORD was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook. (2 King 18:6-7)

The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. (2 Chronicles 15:2)

But with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles. (2 Chronicles 32:8)

How I long for the months gone by, for the days when God watched over me, when His lamp shone upon my head and by His light I walked through darkness! Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God’s intimate friendship blessed my house, when the Almighty was still with me. (Job 29:2-5)

You are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. (Psalm 3:3)

Let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. Surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12)

Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. (Psalm 16:1)

You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:11)

I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:1-2)

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)

For in the days of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. (Psalm 27:5)

How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues. (Psalm 31:19-20)

In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. (Psalm 41:12)

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shallow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills His purpose for me. (Psalm 57:1-2)

Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (Psalm 73:23-26)

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. (Psalm 73:28)

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. (Psalm 89:15)

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)

“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16)

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. (Psalm 119:114)

Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. (Psalm 119:151)

The LORD watches over you – the LORD is your shade at your right hand. (Psalm 121:5)

and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. (Psalm 139:1-6)

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139:9-10)

He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer; my shield, in whom I take refuge. (Psalm 144:2)

The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. (Psalm 145:18)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, Your Savior. (Isaiah 43:2-3)

Where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18:20)

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

I am the vine; you are the braches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. (John 15:5-7)

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love. (John 15:10)

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. (Acts 2:28)

Come near to God and He will come near to you. (James 4:8)

2 – Obeying the Lord’s Will and Pleasing Him Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the command of the LORD your God that I give you. (Deuteronomy 4:2)

So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. (Deuteronomy 5:32-33)

Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so that it may go well with you. (Deuteronomy 6:18)

And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us, that will be our righteousness. (Deuteronomy 6:25)

Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in His ways and revering Him. (Deuteronomy 8:6)

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 11:18-20)

Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD your God. (Deuteronomy 12:28)

He will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as He promised on oath to your forefathers, because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in His eyes. (Deuteronomy 13:17-18)

If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all His commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. (Deuteronomy 28:1)

The LORD will establish you as His holy people, as He promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. (Deuteronomy 28:9-10)

The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them. (Deuteronomy 28:13-14)

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Joshua 1:8)

Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifices, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. (1Samuel 15:22)

Then I would still have this consolation – my joy in unrelenting pain – that I had not denied the words of the Holy One. (Job 6:10)

The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. (Psalm 18:20-21)

Sacrifice and offering you did not desire…burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require…I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart. (Psalm 40:6-8)

I will listen to what God the LORD will say; He promises peace to His people, His saints – but let them not return to folly. (Psalm 85:8)

But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children – with those who keep His covenant and remember to obey His precepts. (Psalm 103:17-18)

Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in His ways. (Psalm 119:1-3)

You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. (Psalm 119:4-7)

Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. (Psalm 119:33-37)

Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path. (Psalm 119:127-128)

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (Psalm 143:10)

When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies live at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7)

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18)

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)

Your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:32-33)

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. (Matthew 12:50)

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:27-28)

Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. (Luke 22:42)

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” (John 4:34)

It is written in the Prophets: “They will all be taught by God.” Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me. (John 6:45)

He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. (John 8:47)

We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does His will. (John 9:31)

If you love me, you will obey what I command. (John 14:15)

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him. (John 14:21)

If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (John 14:23)

Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love. (John 15:9-10)

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. (John 15:13-14)

Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. (Acts 4:19-20)

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1Corinthians 10:31)

So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. (2 Corinthians 5:9)

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter. (2 Corinthians 7:10-11)

It is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.(2 Corinthians 10:18)

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. (Ephesians 5:8-10)

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (Ephesians 5:17)

Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose. (Philippians 2:12-13)

We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:9-12)

On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. (1Thessalonians 2:4)

Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. (1Thessalonians 4:1)

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive that He has promised. (Hebrews 10:36)

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 13:20-21)

As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. (1Peter 4:2)

We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands. The man who says, “I know Him,” but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did. (1John 2:3-6)

The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. (1John 2:17)

If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands and do what pleases Him. And this is His command: to believe in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as He commanded us. Those who obey His commands live in Him, and He in them. And this is how we know that He lives in us: We know it by the Spirit He gave us. (1John 3: 21-24)

This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. (1John 5:3-4)

3 – Walking with the Lord

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD…Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. (Genesis 6:8-9)

I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless. (Genesis 17:1)

I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. (Leviticus 26:12)

But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. (Numbers 14:24)

Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in His ways and revering Him.(Deuteronomy 8:6)

What does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? (Deuteronomy 10:12-13)

My feet have closely followed His steps; I have kept to His way without turning aside. (Job 23:11)

My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not slipped. (Psalm 17:5)

Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Psalm 25:4-5)

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then will I go the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. (Psalm 43:3-4)

You have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling; that I may walk before God in the light of life. (Psalm 56:13)

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. (Psalm 63:8)

Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. (Psalm 86:11)

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. (Psalm 89:15)

Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. (Psalm 119:29-32)

I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. (Psalm 119:59-60)

The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them. (Hosea 14:9)

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin. (Malachi 2:6)

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. (Matthew 4:19-20)

Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 10:37-39)

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:29-30)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25)

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21)

Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:61-62)

She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:39-42)

And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:27)

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God. (John 3:21)

Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God. (John 6:68-69)

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)

He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice. (John 10:3-4)

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27-28)

Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (John 12:26)

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. (Acts 2:28)

If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Romans 14:8)

We are God’s fellow workers. (1Corinthians 3:9)

And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. (2 Corinthians 5:15)

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25)

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. (Ephesians 4:1)

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. (1Peter 4:1-2)

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:10-11)

If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. (1John 1:6-7)

But if anyone obeys His word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did. (1John 2:5-6)

I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love. (2 John 1:5-6)

4 – Taking Delight and Finding Treasure in the Lord

My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. (1Samuel 2:1)

Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. (1Chronicles 16:10)

Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)

If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored: If you remove wickedness far from your tent and assign your nuggets to the dust, your gold of Ophir to the rocks in the ravines, then the Almighty will be your gold, the choicest silver for you. Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. (Job 22:23-26)

I have not departed from the commands of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread. (Job 23:12)

For what hope has the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? Does God listen to his cry when distress comes upon him? Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times? (Job 27:8-10)

5 – Seeing Things from God’s Perspective

Do what is right and good in the LORD’s sight, so that it may go well with you. (Deuteronomy 6:18)

The eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. (2 Chronicles 16:9)

You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. (Psalm 18:28)

Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. (Psalm 43:3)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding. (Psalm 111:10)

Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. (Psalm 119:35-37)

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and put them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight. (Luke 16:15)

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life. (John 6:63)

Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful nature is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. (Romans 8:5-8)

If you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Romans 8:13-14)

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an enteral glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. (2 Corinthians 7:10-11)

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25)

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Chris, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. (Ephesians 1:17-19)

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God. (Ephesians 4:30)

You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. (Ephesians 5:8-11)

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (Ephesians 5:17)

It is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose. (Philippians 2:13)

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. (Philippians 3:14-15)

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)

These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. (Colossians 2:17)
