Ancient Technologies • Ages 8-15VCK-202 • Mon & Wed, 7/8 to 7/24 • 9 - 11 amVerde • Bldg G, Room 104This course will explore the pre-historic cultures that passed through and lived here in the Verde Valley. Explore ancient

technology through a hands-on experience of ancient artifacts. Students will process local clay pottery, build pots using ancient methods and examine ancient pottery using digital and field microscopes. Students will also use matantes and manos to make native flours and learn the techniques used by ancient cultures to make petroglyphs and pictographs. Included is a field trip to Honanki Cultural Heritage Site in Sedona. Honanki is the second largest cliff dwelling in the Verde Valley with the largest grouping of pictographs and petroglyphs in our area.Mackey, Jacqueline • $75

Students will learn about alternative energy using experiential learning activities that include: Alternative Energy Lab, Solar Lab, Solar Dragster Kits, Remote Hydro Powered Cars, and Solar Energy Toy Model Kits. Students will research renewable energy and form compelling discussion groups addressing why solar energy is important to the environment.
