    Course Description.Dr. George Thompson, founder and president of the Verbal Judo Institute, has always valued theimportance of realistic martial arts training in the development of a true Peace Warrior. He hasnow joined forces with Jack Hoban, an internationally known martial artist, Marine Officer, andsubject matter expert for the U.S. Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). Together theyhave developed a comprehensive training program that combines Cross Cultural TacticalCommunication, Ethics, and Physical Protection Skills. This program covers the skills necessaryto develop professionals capable of de-escalating conflict when possible, physically stabilizing thescene when necessary, and possessing the ethical decision-making skills to know the difference.The concepts are universal and can be adapted for use in any environment, including: military,law enforcement, mental health, business, education, etc.Participants will:

    Become better communicators under stress. Develop a better understanding of moral values and ethics, and the art of keeping the

    moral compass calibrated under stress. Learn how to avoid morale issues and burn out. Gain the ability to deal capably with cultural differences and gain insight into what to do

    when cultural differences cannot be reconciled. Acquire (or enhance) realistic physical protection skills for use in the field.

    Instructor Bios:Dr. George J. ThompsonDr. Thompson ("Doc Rhino") is the Presidentand Founder of the Verbal Judo Institute. Overthe last 26 years, he has personally trained morethan 700,000 individuals in TacticalCommunications -- a program he developed in1983 for defusing conflict and redirectingbehavior with words.

    Verbal Judo was originally developed for police,

    corrections, and security professionals and isnow a required course in numerous states. Morerecently it has been tailored for otherorganizations (e.g., mental health, the gamingindustry, hospitals, businesses, schools) and foruse by civilians to protect themselves fromverbal assault and physical violence.

    Doc has a B.A. from Colgate University (1963), aMasters and Doctorate in English from theUniversity of Connecticut (1972), and hascompleted post-doctoral work at PrincetonUniversity in Rhetoric & Persuasion (1979). He

    has written and published four books on TacticalCommunications.

    Widely published in magazines and periodicals,his training has been highlighted in such nationalmedia outlets as NBC, ABC, & CBS News, CNN,48 Hours, Inside Edition, LETN, In the Line ofDuty, and Fox news, as well as in the LA Times,NY Post, Sacramento Bee, and otherpublications.

    Jack HobanMr. Hoban, a Subject Matter Expert (SME)for the U.S. Marine Corps Martial ArtsProgram (MCMAP), has led over 500workshops and seminars around the world.He has addressed the FBI, universities, andother government and private organizationson ethics and martial arts over the last twodecades. His presentations are interactive,informative and entertaining. His business

    and military experiences, as well as anextensive 30-year background in martial arts,give him a unique and interestingperspective.Hoban is a former U.S. Marine Corps officerand long time practitioner of martial arts. Heassisted in the creation of MCMAP andcontinues to teach the program at the MarineCorps Base in Quantico, Virginia andelsewhere.In addition to his military experience, Jack is

    a 25-year business veteran in the areas ofinformation technology (IT) and businessprocess outsourcing (BPO) in healthcare andother industries.For 17 years Hoban was an associate of thelate Robert L. Humphrey, noted conflictresolution specialist, and author of Values fora New Millennium.

    Hoban earned a Bachelor of Arts degree inpolitical science from Villanova Universityand an MBA from National University in San

    Diego. He is also a Master Instructor in theJapanese Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu martial artssystem.
