Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It’s hard to believe we are at the half-way point in the Term. So much has
happened over the past five weeks and looking forward, there is still plenty left
on the calendar for the remainder of Term 2!
Funeral Arrangements
All families will have received a note yesterday outlining the funeral
arrangements for Tom Sharkey, son of our School Learning Support Officer Mrs
Lyn Sharkey, and brother of our Kindergarten teacher Miss Jayne Sharkey.
Tom was a former student and school captain of Cowra Public School, and
our staff has been devastated by this tragic event. Tom’s funeral will be held
tomorrow morning at 11:00am and many of our staff will be attending. The
school will remain open however there will be limited supervision and a
variation to regular class activities between 10:45am-12:30pm. If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact me at school on 63422400.
Good Luck Dancers!
Good luck to our Dance Groups who are off to the Cowra Eisteddfod this
morning! We have almost 80 students in total representing our school and I
would like to thank Mrs Deb Cobcroft for her continued work with both our
boys’ and girls’ dance groups. Deb has been ably assisted by Miss Hayley
Barker and Miss Sarah Marriot who have worked with our dancers since the
beginning of the year with their choreography and we are fortunate to have
such talented teachers in our school.
Sports Roundup!
Congratulations to all students who have represented our school over the past
few weeks and showed outstanding sportsmanship and determination! Our
Boys’ Soccer Team came up with a win last Friday against Canowindra 8-0
and move to the next round of the PSSA Knockout. Our Girls’ Soccer team
also played Canowindra, however despite their best efforts, were defeated 2-
0. Our Boys’ AFL Team played in Blacktown on Tuesday and gave their all in
the Paul Kelly Cup. They comfortably won their first two games but were
closely defeated in the play-off for the finals. Mason Bright, Jett Cummings
and Aaron Hall were selected in the Western Region AFL PSSA Team to contest
the State titles in Sydney last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I
was very proud to receive an email from the coaches of the Western Team
complimenting the three boys on their excellent sportsmanship – well done
Mason, Jett and Aaron! Today our Tennis Team are contesting the Todd
Woodbridge Cup and our Netballers are busy training for their next match
against Mulyan PS coming up next Tuesday. It certainly is a busy time on the
sporting front! Thank you to Miss Samantha Dunk for her efforts in coordinating
sport across our school and to the staff and parents who assist with coaching,
transport and encouragement!

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
Thank you to all students, staff and families who contributed to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal last
Friday. Our school had a fantastic day and dressed up in red in order to contribute a gold coin donation.
Thank you to Ms Noal and the SRC who added to the appeal by organising some delicious “red lolly” bags
to sell at lunchtime. In total, $588.95 was raised. What a remarkable effort from Cowra Public School!
Book Fair
This week Mrs Oborn and Mrs Taylor have been very busy setting up the 2019 CPS Book Fair in the Library.
Students and staff have had the opportunity to have a sneak peek this week during library lessons and
many “wish lists” have been filled! Books will go on sale TOMORROW and the Book Fair will be open until
Thursday next week. The best time for parents to come along and purchase is before school from 8:40am
to 9:00am, 1:00-1:30pm (first half of lunch) or after school from 3:00pm-3:30pm. As is the case every year,
the selection of books on offer is exceptional! We hope to see you there!
Kindergarten 2020
On Tuesday Mrs McFarland and Mr Murray visited Good Start Early Learning Centre to meet the
pre-schoolers who will be heading to Kindergarten in 2020. Mr Murray took his didgeridoo along and told
the children stories of how the didgeridoo came to be, and many of the boys were given the opportunity
to have a go. Mrs McFarland read a story and the pre-schoolers completed a fun activity to take home.
Next week we look forward to Good Start visiting CPS on Monday afternoon for a PE lesson with Miss Dunk
and our teachers will be out and about again meeting the students from Carinya.
Have a great week…
