    1 INTRODUCTION

    Dear customer:

    Please read carefully this instruction book before you start to assemble your new DELTA VARIO machine, and you make familiar with its whole operation and handling process. This way you will avoid any mistakes when working with it as well as any possible damages or loss of material.

    This machine is the result of the very latest technical developments and complies with all general standards and EC Regulations in force. You will notice the EC symbol on the machine, and will also find a Declaration of Consent attached to this instruction book.

    Should the machine break down, or if you would like to make an order for spare parts or you wish to contact our Technical Department, please get directly in contact with the seller or dealer.

    In order to avoid breakdowns caused by faulty or bad quality spare or wearing parts, and so that you do not lose you right to the Manufacturers Warranty, we recommend to use only original spare or wearing parts.

    Please complete the details below in order for you to know the most important features of your machine and to have them always available to use them for any spare parts order. The details to be written down can be found on the machine name plate.

    2 Description

    Our DELTA-VARIO electric plastering machines are resistant, highly efficient and easy to maintain, as well as they are likely to suffer very low wear.

    DELTA-VARIO plastering machines are equipped with efficient re-adjustable conveyor pumps or with maintenance-free stators (as for instance HD 40). Their aim is to provide almost of all kind of liquid or soft transportable materials, as for instance:

    Plastering mortars Matrix Fire protective masses Air-entrained concrete Fire resistant mortars Light-weight concrete Fluid coverings Acoustic plaster Sludge Compensating sludge Injection mortars Residuary sludge Pumpeable wall mortars etc.

    Transportable materials tending to disintegrate should not be supplied through conveyor pumps due to risk of solid material deposits within the transport hose and materials deposit.

    Plastering machines are standard equipped with a three-phase maintenance-free (380V/50Hz) gearbox. The materials standard deposit has got a capacity of approximately 80 litres and a very advantageous filling height. The machine chassis is made of a solid steel tubular frame and is equipped with two big pneumatic wheels.

    The DELTA VARIO plastering machines are standard equipped with an electric (42V) remote control and a pneumatic remote control (to be used when the transportable material, apart from being pumped, has to be sprayed as well). To that aim a compressor (with an air output from 200l./min. and a linear pressure of minimum 3,5bar), a 3/8 air hose and a spraying gun are needed. These materials can be supplied by UTIFORM.

    The prepared and mixed mortar is poured through the vessel or deposit. Using the combination with continuous mixer DELTA-CONTINUO it is possible to prepare, transport and spray automatically a dry and pre-mixed material.

    The continuous mixer remote control can be automated by means of a wet bore located in the machine materials deposit (it can be installed later under special order). Using a planetary mixer which is put over the DELTA VARIO materials deposit an adequate mixture can also be prepared in the building place. The planetary mixer allows the mixture of agglutinative materials using a liquid or plastic material.

    If the load is made using a tambour mixer, commonly known as concrete mixer, it is recommended to assemble the vibrating screen as a protection against excessively granulated materials, avoiding this way the stator deterioration.

    3 Safety

    3.1 Use as planned.

    This machine has been designed and built up for a safe operation under the present technical level. However, certain risk can emanate from the

    machine if used inadequately or for a different use than planned or different to the operation instructions.

    Pay attention to this sign within this chapter!

    3.2 Danger signs

    Actions needing special care or caution are individually signalled:

    This symbol appears within the instructions where an operation may risk a persons life or health by making an inadequate use of the machine parts. Please abide by the operation instructions and work with special caution. All general safety and accidents prevention prescriptions for building works shall be observed.

    With this sign all operations for which the instruction book shall be checked are signalled.

    This sign marks all works within the operation instructions where an object may be risked. ATTENTION!

    3.3 Safety at work.

    x The machine has to be controlled against visible damages before starting it. Special attention is to be paid to the electric supply cables, switches and couplings.

    x All works on the circuit board shall only be made by the Technical Department specialized staff, or by an electrician, all this according to the electricity technical rules.

    x The network connection has to be protected through a protection switch for current supply (building works supply).

    x Before eliminating operation breakdowns and performing cleaning and maintenance works, disconnect the DELTA-VARIO machine from the main switch, take the plug off and for a higher safety, secure the main switch using a padlock.

    x Special attention is to be paid to the following points: ATTENTION!- The guard over the materials deposit shall be firmly fixed using the device to that

    aim! - Do not put your hand through the mixing tube opening for material outlet!

    x When working with the materials transporting machine, all general safety and accidents prevention regulations for the construction field shall be abided by.

    3.4 Machine safety regulations.

    x Machines can only be operated by qualified and trustworthy persons (heads of plant), who have been designated by the employer and are instructed in the machine operation and maintenance, apart from being familiar with its operation.

    x The machine shall be placed on a stable surface and shall be secured against involuntary movements.

    x Electric propelled machines shall be connected to a special supply (normally the building site current supply) as under the rule VDE 0100/5.73, paragraph 55.

    x Machines should be placed outside danger areas at high building sites, and if not so, its working place should be covered by protective roofs against falling objects.

    x When a machine safety device reacts or fails, its operation shall be stopped until that failure is solved.

    3.5 Personal protection equipment.

    x The employer shall provide the staff with the appropriate acoustic protection means if the evaluation level at the working place is higher than 85 dB (A).

    x The employees shall use those acoustic protection means from an evaluation level of 90 dB (A).

    x To eliminate obstructing elements, the appropriate protective glasses should be worn. Protective glasses are those whose frame corresponds to what stated in the DIN 58 211, Part 2 regulations, and whose security glasses correspond to what stated in rule DIN 4647, Page 5.

    3.6 Special operation instructions.

    x Transport hoses shall be secured in a way that the resulting forces are absorbed by the appropriate fastening points (hose hooks). This is specially to be applied to elevating pipes.

    x Transporting pipes shall be placed in a way that they cannot be damaged. When changing directions, the turning circle should not be smaller than six fold the external pipe diameter.

    x Use only high pressure UTIFORM mortar hoses with factory assembled couplings.

    x Before starting the machine, make sure no person could be in danger because of its operation.

    x When starting the machine it shall be guaranteed that the transporting pipe is sufficiently lubricated, that the material used is easy to pump and that there are no elements blocking the connections.

    x In case of activation or failure of the machine security devices, the operation of the machine shall be interrupted until the failure is solved.

    x Before opening the transport pipes or other transport system parts under pressure, please make sure there is no pressure left on the system.

    x If there is an obstruction, the machine shall immediately be switched off so that the obstruction is not increased. Generally, obstructions within the mortar hose can be eliminated by introducing a water hose in the transport direction and beating the mortar hose repeatedly until the material runs without any difficulties.

    When eliminating obstruction please be extremely cautious to avoid injuries!

    When eliminating obstruction please bear in mind that mortar hoses can be under pressure even when the machine is switched off. Please pay attention to the hose manometer!

    Protect you eyes and face! Please wear the appropriate protection glasses!

    First of all, release the mortar hose under pressure by activating the pump reverse gear, to which aim the rotation switch is to be connected in a different turn direction. Please observe the mortar manometer. Open the hose coupling by looking aside and wearing the appropriate protection glasses. If for any reason pressure does not evacuate, the hose coupling shall be joined with a building workers cord, covering it with paper bags. Can be activated from a distance using a wire fixed to the couplings camlock ears.

    x No security or accidents prevention device shall be modified or removed, and its operation shall be carried out correctly.

    x When performing all machine cleaning and repair works the main switch shall be off.

    x Specially before starting the machine, following points should be checked:- The protection grid shall be firmly screwed over the wet mortar vessel. - The pump parts shall be firmly screwed to the machine.

    x Every time the machine is started, its operation safety should be checked. As soon as a failure is detected or even a sign of it-, it shall be immediately eliminated and if necessary, the supervising staff should be informed about it. In case of a failure that may risk a persons safety, the operation shall be immediately stopped.

    x Of all accidents happened because of the failure to observe the stipulations for security and accidents prevention at work, or the insurance company or the county legislation, or caused by negligence, the lawmaker will make responsible the machine operator or the supervising staff if the operator cannot be made because of lack of basic formation or knowledge.

    x In case it is needed, or at least once a year, an expert shall check that the machine can be operated safely. An expert is a person having formation and experience and with a knowledge in mortar transport and spraying machines. He/she shall be familiar with the legal stipulations for protection and prevention of accidents at work, as well as all other directives and generally accepted technical rules, in a way that the machine safety conditions can be assessed properly.

    4.1 Standard equipment

    5 Installation and starting

    Place the plastering machine on a flat surface.

    ** Network cable and limiters

    Make sure the main switch is off. Then lay out the 5x2,5 mm2 network cable (from an engine power of 7.5Kw a 5x4 mm2 network cable is needed). Plastering machines have been factory designed for a three-phase current supply of 380 V /50 Hz.

    The building site current supplier must be equipped with a protective switch for faulty current according to the regulations in force. The circuit board shall have following limiters depending on the machine engine power:

    from 2,2 Kw to 4,0 Kw = 16 A from 5,5 Kw to 7,5 Kw = 25 A from 9,2 Kw to 15,0 Kw = 35 A

    ** Check turn direction

    Fill the mortar hopper with water until the auger head is covered. Connect the main switch at the conduit box. Check the machine gear turn direction by connecting the main switch for a short while (over the engine fan) (to the left). In case of a wrong turn direction, turn the reverser on the circuit board to select another turn direction.

    ATTENTION! The machine shall not work dry. When working dry and in a wrong direction the stator suffers irreparable damages.

    ** Pressure tests on the conveyor pump

    Depending on the connection coupling, join the pump outlet to the corresponding pressure checking device (always under order, optionally under reference 39516), close pressure discharge key. Connect the pump shortly, check its maximum pressure with water within the mortar hopper.

    Depending on the pump element used, the manometer shall show the following oscillating pressures:

    Stator 2 L6 = 15 - 25 bars Stator 45/7/R2 = 18 bars Stator 50/7/R2 = 10 bars Stator HD 40 = 15 20 bars (maintenance-free).

    These values rule those standard pump elements on the DELTA VARIO plastering machine with a mortar hose of approximately 10 metres. They depend on the mortar type and consistency, hose length and section and machine features.

    The following operation is not necessary for maintenance-free plastering machines (as for instance 2L6, 50/7/R2): if pump pressure is significantly lower or higher, all tensile screws on the re-adjustable conveyor coatings shall be tightened or slightly and uniformly slackened. Then, check pressure again. If the pressure wished is obtained, open pressure discharging key on the testing manometer and uncouple it. Another possibility to eliminate hose pressure is by making the engine turn on the opposite direction to which it normally works.

    ATTENTlON! Too reduced mortar hose cross sections and too high transport pressure may cause a major worm to pump elements or stator.

    **Mortar hose lay out

    Only original, high pressure resistant and with factory assembled couplings UTIFORM mortar hoses shall be used. Depending on their length and section, those hoses are supplied under the references 38100up to 38150. These hoses have been made under all recommendations and safety regulations for mortar transporting machines.

    Mortar hose is connected to the pump outlet or to the mortar pressure checking device, and should be laid out from its shortest distance without any folds up to the building site. When working on a scaffold or high stage, hoses shall be firmly fixed without folds by using hose belts as under safety regulations.

    ** Mortar pressure checking device with return key

    Safety regulation for mortar pumping and spraying machines prescribe it is compulsory to supervise continuously transport pressure by using a pressure discharging device. For that reason we recommend to assemble our mortar pressure control device with return key between pump outlet and mortar hose:

    For a pump outlet Dn 50 = Ref. number 39516

    ATTENTION! Special attention is to be paid to the cleaning of hose couplings and its joints, as dirty or leaking couplings may cause obstructions within mortar hoses.

    ** DELTA-VARIO plastering machine remote control

    Depending on the machine equipment, there are 2 or 3 possibilities:

    a) Remote control with activation of the main switch on the conduit box Compressed-air system = pump works Remote control = pump is stopped

    b) Machine remote control with control cable and a button or switch (Ref. number 39517). Connect remote control cable to the connectable socket on the distribution cabinet, laying it out parallel to mortar hose. Put the tipping switch in the remote control position. Now, the machine remote control can only work by pressing the button or remote control switch.

    c) Compressed-air remote control: In this case, control can be carried out from the spraying gun. To that aim, a compressor (for instance V MEKO 280 or 400, Ref. Nr. 33060 or 259640) is needed. Put the tipping switch in the compressed-air system position. Connect compressor to the corresponding socket on the circuit board and joint the compressor hose to the machine pressure control device.

    Join 3/8" air hose (Ref. Nr. 38000 up to 38010) to pressure control device, laying it out without any folds parallel to mortar hose. Join spraying gun to air and mortar hose and close remote control key.

    If a remote control with control cable or an air hose is used, join them to the machine only after having lubricated mortar hoses.

    ** Hose lubrication

    When a mortar hose is dry an obstruction can always appear. For that reason, before starting to work it is recommended to wet or grease them by pumping water from the mortar hopper to the hoses or by connecting them to a water pipe. A much better lubricating effect is achieved with thick lime mud or liquid mortar lime washing, which shall be used especially as lubricants to prepare thick or thin granulated mortars. In this case, water is drained from the material hopper by opening the exit rack on the lower side. Once it is closed, about two buckets lime mud are to be poured into the mortar hopper and are made run over to the hose.

    ** Mortar pumping

    Once the material hopper is loaded with the material to be transported, the machine can be activated using one of the remote control options mentioned before. When the hopper is almost empty and no more mortar is needed, the machine shall immediately be stopped. It shall not work empty or dry nor take air in, as damages can be irreversible.

    ** Flow adjustment (adapted in machines with a gearbox)

    DELTA-VARIO plastering machines can be equipped, under order, with a maintenance-free gearbox. The advantage of it is that flow, due to the possibility of adjusting it without intervals in the revolutions number, can be ideally adapted to the material transported and work process. See diagram "Conveyor pump flows".

    With the engine on, and once the toggle nut is slackened, the hand wheel is made turn in the clock hands direction if the revolutions number required is higher, and in the opposite direction to the clock hands to obtain a smaller revolutions number or less flow. Then, fix the hand wheel again using the toggle nut.

    ATTENTION! Never adjust revolutions number with the engine off. Adjusting revolutions number when engine is stopped may cause considerable damages!

    6 Work stoppages

    As a general rule, work can be stopped at any time without having to adopt any special measures if the mortar hopper or hose is full and provided that the mortar wrought time is not exceeded.

    Before starting to work again, it is recommended to mix the resting mortar at the hopper with a paddle to avoid any possible breakdowns and provide the mortar with renewed elasticity (thixotropic mortar material behaviour).

    Mortar breakdowns often produce obstructions within the pump or stator, and using a heavy material we may run the risk of the pump, due to the formation of tunnels, operating dry at the materials deposit.

    Work stoppages between two mixing operations do not require the conveyor cleaning if following points are observed:

    - During work stoppages, wet mortar shall not become thick or even set within the hopper, stator and hoses.

    - In case of extending a work stoppage, it is recommended that the last mixture is less concentrated or that the machine is cleaned.

    7 Service and maintenance

    Please make sure that the machine cannot start unexpectedly during all machine maintenance and repair works (disconnect the current input).

    The DELTA VARIO plastering machine has been made to need the minimum maintenance. However, following simple points should be observed:

    The machine and hose shall be cleaned daily or before long work stoppages as follows:

    1. Pump as much as possible until the mortar hopper is empty, but being careful that the pump does not work dry.

    2. Evacuate pressure from the mortar hose by opening the pressure discharge key at the pump outlet. Only after the mortar manometer at the mortar hose shows no pressure at all, the hose can be disconnected from the mortar pressure control device.

    ATTENTION! Even if the machine is stopped, the mortar hose is under a high pressure, specially when there is an obstruction. For this reason, it is essential to evacuate pressure before disconnecting the hoses. To open the mortar couplings, please wear protective glasses and look aside!

    3. Clean the pump outlet with clean water and check if the spherical key and the manometer work correctly.

    4. Open the mortar hopper drainage gate and clean it thoroughly with clear water.

    5. Close the outlet drainage gate and fill the mortar hopper with clear water. Then, start the pump shortly until only clear water runs out of the same.

    6. Introduce the two rubber balls within the mortar hose and joint it to the pump or the water pipe. This way, the pump parts wear is reduced.

    7. Start the pump or open the water tap. Water impels rubber balls as if it was a piston and expels the mortar left out of the hose. If needed, repeat this operation several times until only clear water goes out from the hose end.

    ATTENTION! Never clean hoses with water without any rubber balls, as it evacuates mortar binder and sand remains within the hose, which causes obstructions there within when starting to work again.

    8. If working with a spraying gun, it shall be cleaned with water and compressed air. Check the operation smoothness of the air nozzle fixing screw and the spraying gun keys.

    9. Impregnate the mortar deposit with the appropriate concrete dissolver or with deshuttering liquid, as this way we avoid the mortar to get firmly stuck and afterwards the machine can be cleaned just with water.

    10. The circuit box must be dry and without dust within. If it happens, it must be hovered once is has been disconnected from the network supply. It is not recommended to blow with compressed air, as the lifted dust is deposited afterwards on the connection contacts and can become useless.

    ATTENTION! Rubber parts shall not get in contact with the deshuttering liquid!

    Never spray the engine or conduit box with water! Short circuit hazard!

    11. Lubricate daily with machines grease the greasing connector of the engine flange until grease brims over the mortar hopper joint. Check joint wear. VERY IMPORTANT!

    Recommended lubrication grease: multiuse grease 4682 DIN 51801-51818.

    All maintenance and lubrication works will only be carried out with the network plug disconnected, making sure that no unexpected connection happens. Check if the machine is voltage free.

    12. The protection grid and other security devices shall not be removed or disconnected during the machine operation. The manipulation of these devices may be a risk for the worker using the machine, and if it does happen it shall only be under the workers own responsibility.

    13. The gearboxes have been greased for all their service life. If grease runs out of them, they shall be greased again with ENERGREASE or a similar substance. Please do not exceed the prescribed amounts.

    14. Every 100 hours service butt joint wear of the dosifier within the engine flange should be checked. Check the mixer and dosifier shaft wear.

    15. Clean off mortar and dust from the engine cooling fins.

    16. When you stop working, take out and coil network cable.

    17. Always secure loose connections when carrying out maintenance and repair works.

    18. When the machine is working, it is essential to keep the electric control device closed.
