The Segmented Cylinder Applicator Set is used to treat cancer of the vagina, including the vaginal stump, as well as rectal cancer. Depending on a chosen front segment, the first source dwell position can be either in the center of the front segment to provide a vaginal wall treatment, or be in the distal position for a vaginal stump treatment. This segmented construction of the applicator allows it to adapt easily to each patient’s anatomy.

The Shielded Applicator Set is used to treat cancer of the vagina or rectum where partial shielding is required. The 90˚ and 180˚ tungsten alloy shielding segments provide a variety of different shielding positions. After insertion, the marking screw allows for external identification of the area being shielded inside.

The Universal Endometrial Applicator Set is used to treat the vagina, cervix, paracervical area, endometrium, uterus and ovaries. The set contains seven 320mm long intracavitary tandems and a vaginal cylinder of 30mm diameter and 50mm long to fix the tandems and pack the vagina. In addition to stabilizing the applicator, the vaginal cylinder makes it safe to treat the proximal portion of the vagina contiguously with the uterus and cervix. This design can be extremely useful for certain patients being treated for cervical or vaginal cancer.The standard kit contains tandems of 6cm, 7cm and 8cm intrauterine length. The ability to rotate the tandems provides better flexibility with respect to the width of the uterus at the fundus. In addition, longitudinal shifts of the tandem allow further adaptation to the patient’s anatomy.

The Heyman Packing Applicator Set is used to simulate the classical Heyman packing technique for endometrial cancer treatment. The standard set contains capsules which are 4, 6, and 8mm in diameter. The applicator is reusable and can be steam sterilized. For visual coding of individual capsules, there is a set of channel marker clips. Obturators prevent kinks and ease the insertion of the capsules.

The Fletcher-style Applicator Set with defined geometry reproduces applicator geometry of the conventional Fletcher-style applicator. The use of three independent probes also allows a non-cylindrical isodose shaping in the cervix area. The design of the colpostat segments prevents tissue protrusion between the segments even with widespread setups. Relative to the vaginal axis, the colpostat probes are curved 60° and the intrauterine probes are curved 30°. The intrauterine probes are 3mm in outer diameter to allow for easy insertion. The cervical stopper reduces the risk of perforation. The set contains three sizes of intrauterine probes with additional sizes available. The set works with Smit cervical sleeves to allow for repeated insertion and prevent perforation. A rectal retractor can be attached to allow for rectal dose reduction as well as the use of forceps.

The Titanium Fletcher-style Applicator Set with defined geometry reproduces applicator geometry of the conventional Fletcher-style applicator. The use of three independent probes also allows a non-cylindrical isodose shaping in the cervix area. The design of the colpostat segments prevents tissue protrusion between the segments even with widespread setups. Relative to the vaginal axis, the colpostat probes are curved 60° and the intrauterine probes are curved 30°. The intrauterine probes are 3mm in outer diameter to allow for easy insertion. The cervical stopper reduces the risk of perforation. The set contains three sizes of intrauterine probes with additional sizes available. The set works with Smit cervical sleeves to allow for repeated insertion and prevent perforation. A rectal retractor can be attached to allow for rectal dose reduction as well as the use of forceps.

The Titanium Fletcher-Suit Delclos-style Applicator Set is used for high dose and pulse dose rate treatment of the uterus, cervix, endometrium and vagina. Based upon the traditional FSD design, the Titanium Fletcher-Suit-Delclos-style Applicator is manufactured from titanium. The applicator features two colpostats which can be used with interlocking tandems of angles 15°, 30° and 45°. The tandem’s intrauterine section is only 3mm diameter which often permits insertion without total anesthesia even when used without a cervical sleeve.

The Miami-style* applicator set is used to treat vaginal or vaginal cuff disease with a dose distribution optimized to individual patient anatomy and pathology. The set consists of a 22mm cylindrical obturator with six channels positioned around the circumference obturator, one straight and one 30˚ central uterine tandem. Includes obturator sleeves in diameters of 30, 35 and 40mm. The applicator may be used with or without a tandem. The Miami-style applicator improves on a conventional vaginal cylinder or cervical applicator in that the source configuration facilitates the generation of dose distributions that are asymmetrical about the long axis of the cylinder. In this way, a dose distribution can be generated which conforms more accurately to the target. The set is supplied with a aluminium sterilization tray.

Centering Intraluminal Applicator Set CT CompatibleIntended for: HDR Intraluminal brachytherapy

The Centering-Intraluminal-Applicator Set is used to treat cancer of the trachea, main bronchus and esophagus. The special design of the 3-centering catheter enables a centered position of the source in the lumen of the trachea or bronchus while still permitting the patient to breath normally. The three centering baskets can be partly or totally extended enabling an individual adaptation to the patient’s anatomy. The set contains a guide wire for inserting the applicator using the Seldinger technique. For the source transfer, standard or bronchial catheters are used. The centering tube, bronchial catheter and the Seldinger guide wire in the set are supplied sterile and for single use only.

The Mick Radio-Nuclear Instruments Template is used to facilitate HDR prostate implants and supports a wide range of needle sizes. The device mounts to an ultrasound stepper. It is compatible with a range of ultrasound and stepper systems. Unique to this template, its contoured rear surface allows it to fit closely to the perineum. Because of this, it eliminates any void meaning no packing is required between the perineum and the template. Also, once the template is in place, no adjusting is necessary as the template remains fixed relative to the ultrasound probe. By suitering through holes on each corner, the template is fixed to the patient. Needles are fixated to the template via an easily accessible thumbscrew which locks all needles in place simultaneously. The template includes a protective cone that can be attached to the template at the end of the procedure to protect needles between fractions. Templates are available in two sizes, large and small, dependent on user preference.

The Interstitial/Breast Catheter Kit is used for interstitial high dose rate treatment of the breast or head and neck. The kit conveniently contains a set of five catheters and all associated components such as buttons and implant needles. The Advanced Breast Template System is used to facilitate interstitial breast brachytherapy using multiple implanta-tion techniques. The device facilitates the implantation of needles or catheters post-lumpectomy for boost treat-ments or monotherapy brachytherapy of the tumor bed. The device consists of three main components in three sizes: the breast bridge, the stabilization rails, and the breast templates. Assembled with the breast bridge and templates only, the device can be used for implantation following the technique described by R. Kuske.1 With the use of the stabilization bars, the device can be used to adopt the technique described by the William Beaumont Group2 while the positioning of needle holes at the very edge of the template facilitates the needle placement very close to the chest wall. The breast templates come in three sizes for easy adaptation to patient anatomy and the desired isodose coverage. The templates are designed for use with 17gauge needles and accept 18gauge. Needle holes are spaced across the template in two grids each on a 10mm spacing and placed 5mm from one another in each direction. Additional template holes allow for the injection of local anesthetic. The insertion side plate is pat-terned with titanium marker beads for referencing the lumpectomy on a simulator or stereotactic mammography table. The bridge can be adjusted between 40-200mm in 2.5mm increments. An optional guide template guides the needle as it passes through the breast and into the correct hole on the opposing fixed template.

The Catheter Flap Set is used for treating of superficial cancers. It is designed to create a defined space between the source and the tissue, and between the source channels. The highly flexible material easily adapts to complex anatomical regions. The delivery size of the flap is 200 x 290 x 10mm and can be reduced as needed. The catheter channels are 2mm in diameter and are positioned on the middle axis of the flap.

PDR Quick Connectors make it possible to connect applicators to the GammaMedplus series afterloaders in up to five channels at once. Each individual channel is controlled mechanically. The connector part on the side of the patient can be used with one to five connection tubes depending on application. The special design of the PDR Quick Connector prevents the source from moving outside the afterloader if no applicator, interstitial tube or connecting tube is attached. Between treatment intervals, the patient can be separated from the device at the PDR quick connector interface leaving the connecting tubes and applicator with the patient. The Flexible Fixation Device for Gynecological Applicators is an alternative supplement to the rigid universal clamping device system. The fixation rings, in combination with the soft fixation plate, provide a mount for the respective cylinder and secure in the patient with the fixation strap to prevent the applicator from slipping even while the patient is

moved. The device is not connected to any external surface providing an additional safety margin. In addition to the fixation rings, suitable brackets for the three channel and ring applicators are also available. The jigs are made of acrylic and aluminum. They incorporate horizontal and vertical film holders, and embedded fiducial markers used by the planning software to create a common coordinate system. Two sizes are provided to accommodate a range of patients.

Radiation Room Monitor and Alarm ALMO 1 Stationary Dose Rate Measurement System

With the measuring system ALMO 1, one Geiger-Mueller detector can be used to determine the local dose rate. Measuring electronics and display unit are integrated in a plastic housing. On the front side of the housing, the measuring value display is integrated as a large-area LCD display. On this LCD display (128 x 64 pixels), the current measuring value of the connected detector is displayed. Two freely definable alarm thresholds can be set. The parameter setting takes place in the menu level. In case of exceeding an alarm threshold, an optical/acoustic warning follows.

The Primalert™ 10 Teletherapy Radiation Monitor measures and indicates in-room radiation levels. The monitor system is available as a 110V (AL13010000) or 220V (AL13010001) model. The Primalert system contains a Geiger-Mueller detector. The remote alarm can be placed outside the treatment room at the control console and duplicates the room monitor signal. In addition, both units feature flashing red lights to indicate radiation exposure.

Emergency Container

The Emergency Container is an additional safety device for use in cases where a source must be retrieved manually. It meets IEC 601-2-17 standards. Easy to use, the container allows for radiological safe handling and ensures rapid disposal of the source if necessary. The emergency container is mounted on casters for maneuverability. Varian policy states a source

exchange can´t be performed unless an emergency source container is available. One device is provided with every afterloader unit sold. Extra units for additional treatment rooms or for extra locations in a treatment room reduce source handling time in an emergency.

Features of the HDR 1000 Plus Ion Chamber:

Easy to use: No complicated set-up or lengthy procedure.

Stable: Short term stability, within +/-0.02% for ten insertions.

One to two year re-calibrations average within 0.2%

of-original-calibration.

Confidence: Corrections are built in, requiring only the application of

the ADCL calibration factor.

Aion: Ion collection efficiency is 1.000 with sources ranging

from 0.1 mCi to greater than 20 Ci. If you have a dif-

ferent chamber with a lower collecting efficiency, the

response is not linear at activities other than the calibra-

tion point, and-your accuracy may suffer.

Response: 0.1% over 1cm (+/-5mm about center).

Isotropic: No problems with inhomogeneities in sources.

Validated: Operation of the HDR 1000 Plus is described in nineteen

publications clearly demonstrating the superior

EXCALIBUR CDX 2000B Charge Digitizing Electrometer

The EXCALIBUR CDX 2000B electrometer takes the charge signal from

the Ion Chamber and converts it to a digital signal right at the input

connector. Every 10pC becomes one digital count. The conventional

method of analog capture and analog to digital conversion is

completely eliminated. Digital operation provides excellent stability,

0.02% reproducibility, and low leakage, <10 -15 Amps.

Digital operation also contributes to these important benefits:

1. Unique, user controlled timing capabilities.

2. An extensive coulomb range.

3. Five decade Amp range.

Unique Timing Capabilities

Unique timing capability ideally suited to brachytherapy calibration.

The CDX 2000B can capture charge during specific times of an

exposure . Using this timing feature, the signal can be captured for a

selected amount of time, i.e. 30, 60, 120 seconds, thereby eliminating

end effects or other variable portions of an exposure. This application

is very useful during the measurement of high and low dose rate

brachytherapy sources allowing you to measure charge only during the

time the source is in place and the rate is constant. The two-line display

shows the time counting down on one line while the charge being

collected is simultaneously displayed on the other line.

Versatile

The CDX 2000B is an extremely versatile primary electrometer used for

therapy, diagnostic and mammographic measurements. It can be used

with all standard farmer chambers, parallel plate chambers, and well

chambers.
