Valley View Elementary’s original musical is based on the true stories of two Utah Olympians who dared to dream.

Good as Gold   Cast: 3rd – 6th  Preshow: K­6 Parade of Nations Instrumental Music plays in the hallway.  Flags line hall to gym.    PRESHOW   Welcome:  Welcome to Valley View’s Original Musical “Good as Gold!” We’d like to invite any Valley 

View students and audience members to join in singing “See Us Shine.”   

SONG: SEE US SHINE       (After song ends, the overture begins and students sit with families.)   OVERTURE:  Students exit into hallway to quickly remove their costumes and join their 

families.   

ACT I   Scene 1:  Bedtime­Intro (Lacee, Traycen, Janson)   

(Lights up on far stage left. A bedroom scene with one twin bed.  Lacee is looking through some photo books with great interest. Traycen has a small American flag and is humming and singing See Us Shine, while jumping, walking, playing all over the bed, disrupting Lacee, while she’s trying to look at the photo book.) 

  SIGNPOST – Home in Utah 

     Lacee: Traycen!!      (Janson Enters)   Janson:  (To both) Time for bed. (He takes away Lacee’s flashlight.) Lacee, are you 

looking at the family photos again?   Lacee:  Dad, of course I am!  I LOVE all of Mom’s necklaces!   Traycen: Lacee, they’re called MEDALS.       (Janson redirects Traycen by pulling him into the photo book.)   Janson:  Look at you, Traycen! You were such a cute baby!

Traycen: Yaaah! Mom was cute too. Wasn’t she the youngest of EIGHT kids?     Janson: Yep! Look! (flips pages ahead, pointing in the photo book)  Here she is!   

(Lights up on stage. Photographer is prepping family for photo.  Everyone is smoothing and straightening hair, shirts, fixing ties, etc.) 

    Scene 2: I Dare You!  (Noelle, Noelle’s Mom, Noelle’s Dad, Amanda, other Pikus siblings,  

Photographer)   Noelle’s Dad:  Is everyone ready?   

(Photographer:  One…two…three… with fingers.)   Everyone:  CHEEEEESE!       (Flash goes off. Music begins.)   

SONG: I DARE YOU   

Noelle’s Mom:  Family photos again.  I’m going to go insane.  Noelle! Noelle:  I’m gonna be late! 

My brothers are to blame!  Pikus Siblings:  I dare you     Amanda:  to try ballet. Pikus Siblings: I dare you­­to figure skate.     I dare you, dare you, dare you! Noelle:  What am I gonna do?  Noelle’s Mom:  Noelle, don’t worry now.  I’m sure you’ll find your thing. Noelle:  I can’t decide!  Mother, what’s my dream? Pikus Siblings:  I dare you­­to run a race.     I dare you­­to ski that place! (Shouted and points to roof)                I dare you, dare you, dare you! Noelle’s Mom:  Why don’t you dare to dream? Noelle:  (Spoken) dare to dream? Noelle’s Mom: You can do anything that you want to do. All:   We’ll cheer you on, no matter what you choose! Noelle’s Mom and Dad: Do your best.  Forget about the rest. Noelle’s Mom:  Why don’t you dare to dream? Noelle:  Dare to Dream. All:  Dare to dream.

SLED SIGN: Dare to Dream   

(Family exits. Noelle sits overwhelmed with all the stuff/equipment.)   

SONG:  WHERE’S MY DREAM? (Noelle)   

Noelle:  Where’s my dream I would keep it in my sight And keep it in the light.   Where's my dream? I would love it from the start And keep it in my heart.   Where’s the dream that I will do? Where’s the dream that will come true?   Where's My Dream? 

  (Noelle’s Mom and Amanda walk over to Noelle and help her take off her extra gear, leaving tutu on.) 

  Noelle:  Mom, Everyone has their thing. What am I good at?   Amanda:  You are good at ballet…   Noelle’s Mom:  But, I can tell your heart’s not in it.  And that’s okay.  Dare to try new things.  But, for 

now ­  we’re late!  Let’s go!   

(Amanda puts her arm around her as they exit.)     Scene 3: That’s What Girls Can Do! (Noelle, Stephanie, Amanda, Female Ensemble)   

(Noelle and Amanda enter. Stephanie Romero, a friend, enters with softball equipment.)   Noelle:  Hi, Stephanie!  We just got back from ballet.   Stephanie: Cool. Ya wanna come play softball with me ?   Noelle: Softball?  Girls can do that?  (looks at Amanda because she’s going to try something 

new.)  Sure!                    

SONG: THAT’S WHAT GIRLS CAN DO! (Noelle, Stephanie, Amanda and female ensemble.)

  All: Softball: hit 'em hard! That's what you get. Basketball: shoot 'em high! Nothin' but net.   That's what girls can do. Reaching for the stars. Just let me show you The girl that you are. That's what girls can do!   Track meet: eat my dust! That's what you get. Soccer field: shoot 'em fast! Into the net.   That's what girls can do. Reaching for the stars. Just let me show you The girl that you are.   That's what girls can do! (Do your best.) That's what girls can do! (Forget about the rest.)   That's what girls can do! (Do your best.) That's what girls can do! (Forget about the rest.)   How 'bout you? 

      (All exit.)   

SLED SIGN: Dare to Try     Scene 3­A: Bedtime – Not So Loud  (Janson, Lacee, Traycen)   Traycen:  (looking up from the photo album) Wow, Mom had to be pretty tough growing up as the 

youngest.  I know how THAT feels…   Janson:  She always said that’s where she learned to keep trying.

  Lacee:  Look, here she is as a teenager!    Traycen:  (shouts with flag raised) Mom’s the coolest!   Janson: Shh, not so loud.  I’m supposed to be putting you to bed.   Traycen:  (Sitting back down.) Oh, yeah. I’m sorry. You’re awesome, too, Dad!     Scene 4: The Faster, The Better (Noelle’s Dad, Noelle)       (Noelle is on stage stretching with water bottle and duffel bag.)   Noelle’s Dad: (enters stage and blows whistle.) That’s enough for today. (Looking at his watch.) Hey 

Noelle, I’ve heard of something you might want to try. (Pulls out a bobsled flier.) Bobsled?   Noelle: (confused) Bobsled? Dad, is this a dare?   Noelle’s Dad: (Smiling/chuckling) No, no…Park City High School is starting a bobsled team. They are 

looking for people who would be a good fit. It’s fast, and you do like speed. Are you game to try?   Noelle:  Why not?  I’ll try it! The faster…the better!     Scene 4­A:  Mad Science – Zee Bobsled and Zee Skeleton (Boy and Girl Scientists)   Scientist Boy:  (Mad enthusiasm.) Did you know zee Bobsled was named bobsled because all zee heads 

bobbeled back and forth to increase zeir speed as they raced down zee hill?  Very Scientific!   Scientist Girl: (Very matter of fact with flip chart) Skeleton racers use the same track as the bobsled.  The 

skeleton sled was named because it looked boney and skinny like a skeleton.   Scientist Boy:  Ooooh!  Zee sport of skeleton is face down and face first…one would have to be absolutely 

mad to try it!     Scene 5: The First Time Down (Noelle’s Dad, Tuffy, Noelle, Steve, Tristan, Olsen, Mesler, 

Tomasevicz)   

SIGN POST: Park City, Utah, USA

 (Music as track background changes to mountain backdrop. Coach and Noelle put on coats. Noelle has costume change from track & field to snow outfit.) 

  Noelle’s Dad: Now, remember what we’ve talked about. I know you’re a beginner, but these people 

were beginners once too.  They can help you.       

(Tuffy Enters and walks toward Noelle and her Noelle’s Dad.)   Tuffy: Hi Noelle, I’m Tuffy LaTour, your new coach.   Noelle’s Dad: (to Noelle) Have courage, trust your abilities… (winks) I dare ya! (Noelle’s Dad leaves 

stage.)   

SLED SIGN:  HAVE COURAGE   

(They walk toward the others students – including Steve, three teammates and Tristan – all gathered to give bobsled a try.) 

  Tuffy:  (to group) Well, here we are, at the top of the mountain. The only thing separating you from the 

bottom is fifteen­hundred yards of this frozen icy track – with 19 death defying turns. Who’s first to go down?... Steve? 

  Steve:  I’m game   Olsen: I’m in   Mesler:  Me too   Tomasevicz: Sure, I’ll go.   Tuffy:  You might think that this is like four weight­lifters charging head­long down the ice, pushing a 

buddy’s broken car.  But, it’s more like a ballet….   Noelle: (Interrupting Tuffy) Wait?  Did you say it was like ballet?    Tuffy:  Yep, listen up people.  It’s like ballet. Each step is timed and lyrical, like dancing.  You feel your 

way down the track.  Have at it, boys!   

(The four jump in the sled and go.)   Tristan: (yelling) Good luck Steve!    Steve:  Thanks Tristan!  See you at the bottom!    

(Bobsled goes down the track.)

  Tuffy: Noelle, Tristan…You ready? (He hands Noelle a skeleton sled)   Noelle: (examines sled) Wait? I thought I was here to bobsled.   Tuffy:  Well, the bobsled’s gone. You can chase it down the track or you can try this out.     Noelle: What is this?   Tuffy: A skeleton sled…perfect for going head­first down the track.  You git what you git and you don’t 

throw a fit.   Noelle: (takes the sled hesitatingly.) Here’s to courage and trusting my abilities...(puts on a helmet)   Tuffy:  Just picture yourself as a sack of potatoes on a cookie sheet…   Noelle: A what?   Tuffy: A sack of potatoes on a cookie sheet!   

(Tuffy pushes her down the track.)   Noelle: Ahhh! (Tuffy and Tristan visually follow her down the track.) Oh, my goodness!  What am I 

doing? Somebody save me! Ahhh! I’m going to Die!! Ahhh!   

SONG:  JUST LIKE DANCING   

Noelle: I’m flying, soaring, gliding through the sky. I’m living, dreaming, racing way up high. (spoken – wahoo!) It’s just like dancing to winter music. It’s like a dream. I love it.  Faster, faster, on my sled. Like chocolate, sunshine, laughter in my head. It’s just like dancing to winter music. I’ve never felt this way before. Never before! Again!  Again!  Again! 

  (Noelle exits) 

    Scene 5­A: Bedtime­Who’s Steve? (Lacee, Janson, Traycen)   Lacee:  Mom really did try a lot of different things.

Janson:  She had the courage to take advantage of opportunities that came her way.  She worked hard, and did her best… nothing was handed to her.  (Turn Page.) Oh, man. Here’s a picture of Steve. 

  Traycen:  Who’s Steve?    Janson:  One of her Olympic teammates, from Park City, Utah.  He’s a bobsledder.  

Steve has an amazing story, a lot like Mom’s.  He had lasers put in his eyes. (Flashes flashlights in his eyes.) 

                    Scene 6—Steve Holcomb and the Carrot­Sounding Eye Disease (Steve and Eye Doc) 

 SIGN POST: Lake Placid, New York, USA 

  (Steve pacing while waiting for the Eye Doctor.  The Eye Doc enters looking over some test results.) 

  Eye Doc: (Looks at results on a clipboard) Hmm… That’s not right.   Steve:What?   Eye Doc: Mr. Steven Holcomb, have a seat.  (The doc pulls out a light and looks into Steve’s eyes and 

back at his papers.)  I’ve got some not­so­good news…You have an eye disease called Keratoconus.   Steve: Carrot What?!  Can it be fixed?   Eye Doc:  That’s the bad news.  There’s no cure.  You may eventually have to have a cornea transplant   Steve:  Cornea Transplant!?  Doc, I’m only 20 years old and I’ve just been made a pusher 

for the USA Bobsled Team? I’m going to the Olympics in Salt Lake!   Eye Doc:  Let’s hope the deterioration is slow then.  You can never get back on a bobsled after a cornea 

transplant.  (Gets up to leave.)   Steve: Hey Doc!  This is our secret okay?  I don’t want my teammates looking at me as the kid with 

the carrot­sounding eye disease. I can’t let them down.  No one needs to know I’m going blind.     Scene 6­A:  Mad Science ­ Explaining Keratoconus  (Boy and Girl Scientists)      Scientist Girl:  Keratoconus is a genetic eye disease that involves the progressive thinning of the cornea — 

the lens of the eye.  (pointing to chart.) Symptoms may include eye pain and loss of depth perception.

  Scientist Boy: Zee patient may experience little or very big distortion of vision.    Scientist Girl:  This is the cornea…a transplant is when you cut it out of a dead person and put it on a 

living person…   Scientist Boy: (interrupting)…Oh, zis iz all Frankenstein stuff.     Scene 7: The Forerunner (Steve, Brian, Olsen, Mesler, Tomasevicz and Medics)   

(Steve enters down trodden to the ice track where Brian, Olsen and Mesler are preparing for a run.) 

  Brian: Steve, what’s wrong? (Starts putting on speed suit over shorts and flowered shirt.)   Steve: Brian, you’re 39 years old and you’ve been doing this for 20 years.  This is it for you. Are you really  

ready to walk away from competing?   Brian:  You know Steve, I am.  This was just one of my dreams.  After this Olympics, I’m ready to tackle  the next thing on my list.   Steve:  Coaching???...   Brian:  Maybe?  But I’m not retired yet.  We have an Olympic race to train for! Let’s go!   

(Steve is rubbing his hands, jumping up and down to get warmed up. Steve winces and stops. Everyone looks at him.) 

  Brian: Steve, are you ok? (yells toward offstage) Get a medic!   Steve: (wincing) I think I might have pulled a hamstring!       (Siren and lights from side stage. Two medics enter with stretcher. One kneels to examine 

Steve’s leg.)   Brian:  How does it look?   Medic: We’ll do some tests, but it’s likely he’ll be out of the race for a few weeks.   Brian: Steve… (Hand on Steve’s shoulder with sincere sorrow.) I’m sorry but we have to replace you. 

This is a critical time for us and we need a full team every day.  I’m so sorry.     (Tomasevicz enters and joins them.)

Steve: Brian, please.  The Olympics are in Park City, my hometown.  Everyone I know will be there. Is there any way I can be a part? 

  Brian:  Well… (thinking) they do need a forerunner, someone who tests the track for safety.   Steve:  A forerunner? You want me DRIVING the sled? Can I do that with an injured hamstring?   Brian:  There is no running involved, but since you have no experience driving, you would need to make 

100 successful runs without crashing, and you have less than a month. But if anyone can do it, Steve, I know you can. 

      (Brian turns back to the team while Steve limps toward downstage center.)   Steve:  (talking to himself) Okay.  I can do this.  I just have to teach myself how to drive a four­man 

bobsled, do it without crashing 100 times, in less than 30 days, with an injury….all while going blind…no problem! (Starts limping off stage) Snap! (grabs head) What have I done?! 

    Scene 8:  The Salt Lake City Olympics, 2002   (Noelle, Janson, Tristan, Steve, Reporters, 

Brian, Olsen, Mesler, Tomasevicz, full cast.)   

SIGN POST: Park City, UT, USA   

SONG:  PARADE OF NATIONS INSTRUMENTAL   

(There is hustling and bustling on stage as they literally set the stage for the Olympics. Steve, Noelle and Janson enter.) 

     SIGN POST: Welcome to Park City, Utah, USA and 2002 Olympic Winter Games 

   Noelle:  Janson, I can’t believe it.  We’re here at the Olympics in our home state of UTAH!  Oh, if only I 

had been born a few years earlier, maybe I could be racing right here and now!!   Janson: Slow down there…Your time will come.  Besides, if you had been born a few years earlier, you  

would have raced right past me and never agreed to be my wife. (he smiles and takes her hand)   

(Noelle smiles back but almost immediately lets go again in excitement as Tristan enters.)   Noelle: Look!  There’s Tristan Gale!!  She took GOLD yesterday, Janson!  GOLD!!  Watching her win...  

THAT’S when I knew! Skeleton is my thing! I want to be an Olympic Skeleton Racer! Can I do that?   Janson:  No, you can’t…(pause) but WE can.  (Together they take their place in the stands)   

(Tristan and Steve see each other and excitedly run to give each other a high five.)

Tristan:  Steve, my childhood buddy! I thought you had injured your hamstring.  Why are you suited up?    Steve: After 100 successful runs in less than a month, the officials let me participate as a forerunner.   Tristan:  Whoa! A forerunner? So you’re driving the sled!   Steve:  Yep. And my hamstring is healing.  Now I just need Brian to retire so I can drive at the next 

Olympics!  But let’s talk about you!  The Skeleton?!  I saw you race yesterday!  You were amazing!   Tristan: Thanks. How crazy are we to do these death­defying sports…in the bitter cold?  But after trying it  

once, I was hooked.   Noelle: (In the stands eaves­dropping.)  That’s how I feel too!  (Janson laughs.)   

(Steve and Tristan move to the stands to watch.  Brian’s USA bobsled team is at the top with the sled. They push off and jump in. Reporter Bob is at desk.  Reporter Hannah is at the track. Reporter Meredith is with the spectators.) 

  Reporter Bob:  Here we are at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.   Today’s events take 

us back to Park City, where we will witness the final runs of the four­man bobsled.   Reporter Hannah: Yes, we are here and …they are…OFF!     

(Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of bobsled.)   Reporter Meredith: Driving that USA sled is a 5­time Olympian, Brian Shimer, a guy from the sunny south 

who never saw snow ’til college!   Reporter Hannah: Shimer and his team finished a painful fourth place in their last Olympic Games.  This 

is his last chance for a medal. They are looking good on the upper turns. (pause) … Here they are, approaching the last turn… Can they do it? …(dramatic pause…) They did it!!!!!   

  (Crowd goes wild! Bobsled team jumps out of sled and hug each other. Reporter Meredith rushes to Brian. Brian removes helmet.) 

  Reporter Meredith:  Brian! A bronze medal!  The USA hasn’t medaled in bobsledding in 46 years!  Can 

you think of a better way to end your Olympic career?   Brian:  At the top of the track, I was thinking:  “This is it.  Just put one foot in front of the other and focus.  

This is my last chance and last run”…. and it felt so good!... Good as gold!   

 SONG:  MY TIME IS COMIN’ 

  Noelle: Many dreams are floating,

But there's only one anchored here. (motions to her heart) No more sugarcoating Fighting through the pain and the fear. 

  Steve: Victory? Not just victory­­ 

There's a race that's calling me. It's the joy that comes from being true to the part of you that will be free. Can you see? 

  Noelle/Steve: My time is comin’ ­­ on that track! 

My time is comin’ ­­ I won't look back! I've seen others have their moment and give their all. I've seen others reach the peak and others fall. But that was someone else's moment ­­ My time is comin'! 

  Ensemble: Many flags are flying, 

But there's only one spirit here. Many nations trying­­ Striving for the goal that is clear.   Victory? It's not victory­­ That's a place built just for three. It's the pride that comes from being true to the part of you that could be free. Can you see? 

  My time is comin’ ­­ on that track! My time is comin’ ­­ I won't look back! I've seen others have their moment and give their all. I've seen others reach the peak and others fall. But that was someone else's moment ­­ My time is comin'! 

  All [spoken solos]: My time is comin' ­­ [to be an astronaut!  A teacher!  An artist!] My time is comin' ­­ [to be a veterinarian!  A dancer!  A parent!] My time is comin' ­­ [to be a director!  A fireman!  A reporter!] My time is comin' ­­ [to be an engineer!  An architect!  A designer!]   My time… My time is comin'.

My time is comin'.  My time is comin'. Scene 8­A:  Bedtime – Altenberg, Germany (Lacee, Traycen, Janson)       (Janson jumps from spectator stands to the bedroom.)   Janson: You guys, it was so cool having the Olympics here in Utah!   Lacee & Traycen: Way cool!   Traycen: And, mom found her dream.   Lacee:  Well…two dreams, Daddy and skeleton.   Lacee:  It was a beautiful summer wedding….   Traycen:  How do you know? You weren’t there!    Lacee: Pictures, of course.   Janson:  (Quietly, trying to quiet the kids.) Now listen guys, right after we got married, someone dropped 

out of the World Cup League. Since Mom was number one in the Jr. League, she got to take the open spot.  Mom went from small things to very big just over night. 

  Lacee:  It must have been tough. Was she scared?    Janson:  Are you kidding?  Mom is the most courageous person I know. She does hard things. But…she had  

tougher competition, she was half a world away, and she was alone.   Lacee:  That would be hard to be away from you.   Janson:  It was hard on both of us. Then, to make things even harder, one of the first places she had to race  

was one of the scariest, most difficult tracks in the world! (Holding flashlight up to face.) Altenburg, Germany…              ` 

    Scene 8­B: Mad Science ­ An Apex (Boy and Girl Scientists)   Scientist Boy:  Zee key to success on zee track, and in life, eez navigating zee turns.   Scientist Girl:  Turns have three parts…the entry, the apex, and the exit.  Steering through the apex is the  trickiest part.   Scientist Boy:  One of zee turns in Altenburg, Germany haz four apex’z! Zis means zee skin and zee muscles feel like zey are being vacuumed avay from your skeleton.

  Scientist Girl:  Your ACTUAL skeleton, not the sled.   Scientist Boy:  Yez, Yez. It’s like being on a runaway roller coaster…zat iz not attached to zee track…with

 no buckle.     Scene 9:  Where You Look Is Where You Go (Tuffy, Noelle, Katie, Chris, LeaAnn, 

Medics, Ensemble)   

(All are at the top of the track, except medics and ensemble. Noelle is frightened.)   

SIGN POST: Altenburg, Germany   Tuffy:  (cheerfully) Welcome to Altenburg, Germany!  The most dangerous track in the world… You 

have all worked hard and earned the right to be here competing in the World Cup League.  Just   stay focused and you’ll be fine.        (Noelle:  Breathing exercises and audible lines of “I can do this!  I can do this! …)   Chris: (Approaching Noelle) Ok, Noelle.  This is seriously THE most dangerous track in the world.  Just 

make sure you pay attention in curve four, because it is easy to hit the roof.  Then you end up on your back, going 90 miles an hour.  

  Tuffy:  Chris is right. Remember, your suit is built for speed, not for protection.        (Noelle starts stuffing her suit with padding.)   Chris:  If you get through curve four, you’re good.   

(Noelle nods and grabs more padding to stuff around her elbows.)   Katie: No way, curve four is nothing compared to curve nine. Keep your focus on where you want to go.    Noelle:  Thanks Katie.  (grabs more stuffing, which she shoves down her shirt)   Tuffy:  Don’t worry about those curves.  Curve ten and twelve are the ones you should worry about! 

Remember your training.    

(Noelle looks terrified and grabs more padding, tucking it in around her legs. Siren/lights goes off.) 

  Voice:  Achtung!  Achtung!  81!  81 im die bahn!       (Teammates and coach all look down the track in the distance.)

  Noelle: Katie, what was that?!   Katie: (Casually…) That means the racer on the track crashed.  They’re calling for medical attention.   Chris: (with sudden urgency) Whatever you do, do NOT get in the Krankenwagen!   Noelle: The what?!   Tuffy: The Krankenwagen!  The German Ambulance.   Chris: There are no doctors in this town.  They take you to the vet, the ANIMAL DOCTOR!  

We don’t know when we’d see you again!   Noelle:  Okay… (takes a deep breath)   Katie: Just remember, where you look is where you go.   Noelle: Huh?   

SONG: WHERE YOU LOOK IS WHERE YOU GO      

Chris and Katie: Don’t you fret and don’t you frown.  It’s a scary track but ya must go down.  Just keep your head and then you’ll know.  Where you look is where you go. 

  Crew on Stage chants:   

Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus   Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus    

Noelle:  (Talking to self while stuffing more padding) Ok…curves four, nine, ten, twelve… fifteen?  What am  I doing here?  Oh my goodness.  Maybe I shouldn’t go down today...  (turns to watch next runner). 

  (Girl from Canada starts her run. Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of race.) 

  Tuffy: The curves are fast and very tight 

    But you’ll survive if you do it right     Just keep your head and then you’ll know.     Where you look is where you go.   

Crew on Stage chants:   Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus 

  Focus, Focus, Focus, Focus

Noelle: (still talking to self) No, Noelle, you can do this!  Right??   Voice:  81!  81 im die bahn!   Noelle:  Oh my!  I shouldn’t be doing this!   Tuffy (Teammates and Crew):    Yes there’s ice shards, ice shards everywhere

  Noelle: Oh… Here I go.   

(Noelle starts the run.  She is scared out of her mind. Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of run, including painful reactions throughout.) 

  Noelle: Ok…  I’m doing it!  I’ll be okay… I’m not doing it!  Ugh! I knew this would happen!  What am I 

doing?!... Ow!  Was that eight?  Is this nine? Holy smokes!  I’m going to die!!  That’s the roof! Oh, it’s too close.  I’m going to hit it!! 

 (Sled glides onto stage without Noelle.  Padding is tossed. Noelle comes tumbling after.  The two medics enter with stretcher and try to take her away.  Chris, Tuffy and Katie hurry to intervene. ) 

  Noelle: Nein Krankenwagen… Nein, Nein Krankenwagen…   Tuffy: Nein Krankenwagen!  (Takes Noelle and helps her limp away with Katie and Chris, waving medics  

away.)   Noelle:  I did it…until I saw the roof.  Where you look is where you go.     (Noelle just laughs a little and winces in pain as she limps off the stage)

SLED SIGN:  Where you look is where you go!     Scene 9­A:  Mad Science – The G­Force (Boy and Girl Scientists)   Scientist Girl:  Gravitational force, G­force for short, is basically pressure and speed combined. 

Bobsledders and skeleton racers have to withstand forces up to 5 times their body weight, or 5 G’s.    Scientist Boy:  Az if hurtling down zee icy track at 80 miles per hour isn’t enough, try doing zis with a 

sumo wrestler on your back!        Scene 10  ­ 5,000 Miles (Noelle, Janson, Noelle’s Mom)

(Noelle on the phone with Janson and her Mom.  Noelle downstage center with old school telephone to her ear.  Janson with phone standing to her right.  Noelle’s Mom with phone standing to her left.  All face forward as song is sung.)

(Noelle leaves cafeteria tray on table and moves downstage center and picks up phone. Janson comes out of stage right and Noelle’s Mom comes out of stage left to join her on downstage.  They are holding telephone receivers to their ears.) 

  Noelle:  Hi!  A lot has happened since we spoke last, Mom.  I made a friend!  Actually, a lot of friends.     Noelle’s Mom:  That’s great, honey!     Noelle:  Yeah, thinking of others is a lot better than thinking about myself.  Also, Janson, I am starting to 

win a lot of races!   Janson:  That’s great, Noelle!  We miss you.   Noelle:  I miss you, too.  So much.  I can’t wait to see you again.  Then I get to train for the Olympics!   Noelle’s Mom and Janson:  What!?   Noelle:  Yep!  You heard right!  The Olympics!!!       (Janson and Noelle’s Mom’s faces are overjoyed.)     Scene 12: Blinder Every Day (Steve, Steve’s Mother)  

SIGNPOST:  Park City, Utah, USA   

(Scene opens in Kitchen.  Steve knocks and walks in.)   Steve’s Mother:  Steven?  There he is!!  My world traveler!  (hugs him, and turns to prepare the table) 

Moving up in the world as a USA Bobsled Driver!  How are you dear?   Steve:  I’m good, Mom.  I’ve missed you.   

(Mother drops pie tin, squints and rubs eyes)   Steve:  (steps in to help) What’s wrong, Mom?   Steve’s Mother:  Oh, it’s nothing. (waves hand dismissively)

Steve:  Mom, c’mon.  You and Dad have worked so hard and given up so much for me.  Let me help you! What’s going on? 

  Steve’s Mother:  Oh, I have this eye problem where my corneas are thinning.  It’s not that big of a deal. 

(Steve freezes and stares wide­eyed) Steven, are you okay?     (Steve grabs chair and sits)     Steve’s Mother:  (sits down beside him) Son, it’s nothing to worry about.  I’ve had something called 

Keratoconus for about five years.  It’s a degenerative…   Steve:  (interrupting) I know what it is, Mom. (pause, looking at her)  I have it, too.   Steve’s Mother:  (face falls in compassion) Oh, my goodness, Steven.  I’m sorry.  I didn’t know.  Mine is 

not that bad yet.  How is yours?   Steve:  Really bad.  I can hardly make my way around without running into things.  I just feel my way 

down the bobsled track, but off the track I keep to myself so no one notices.   Steve’s Mother:  Does your coach, Brian, know?   Steve:  No! Nobody knows.  All I’ve ever wanted is to be an Olympian.  If I tell, they’ll kick me off the 

team!  I can’t let that happen.  I’m so close!      

(They hug and gesture goodbye.  After shutting the door, Steve stands facing audience just outside.  Mother faces audience still inside home.)    

  SONG: HEAVEN THE KEEP THE LIGHTS ON            

  Steve’s Mother:  Heaven keep the lights on for my son. 

I just can't believe his work is done. Heaven keep the lights on ­­ Show me where the light's gone.  Can't you spare a little light And help my only son tonight?

Tell me what I'm asking for is right.  Heaven, can you be here? Can you make my way clear? Will you light the path ahead or keep me in the dark instead?

    Scene 12­A:  Bedtime – Top of the World (Lacee, Traycen, Janson)   Lacee:  Wow.  It’s hard to be an Olympian!   Traycen: ….It’s harder to keep a secret.  (pause)  Dad, I snuck some cookies into bed tonight.   Janson:  Ha!  Where’s mine?  (Traycen pulls out cookie package.)  Lacee’s right.  Getting to the Olympics 

takes a lot of hard work and perfect timing.   Traycen: Lacee’s ALWAYS right.  (eye roll, then smiles)   Lacee: What do you mean “perfect timing?”   Janson: The Winter Olympics only happen every four years.  That means you have to be doing your very 

best, with no problems, right when the Olympics come around.     Lacee and Traycen: Woah…   Janson:  (pointing to photo book) Look.  Mom, was number one in the world at just the right time for the 

Torino, Italy Olympics.     Scene 13: The Accident (Chris, Katie, Noelle, Tuffy, LeaAnn, 2 Medics)     SIGNPOST:  Calgary Canada   

(The skeleton team is on the bottom of the track.  Noelle is on her sled going down the track. When she stops, she jumps up and bounces her way to her four teammates.  They are all happy and excited.)   

Chris:  Here we are ladies!  Training for the Olympics!   Katie: Yes, and Noelle is ranked first in the world.  Who’d of thought?  (jokingly nudges 

Noelle)        

(Tuffy enters and is overhearing the conversation.)

Noelle: Thanks Katie, and only 115 days until the Torino, Italy Olympics!   Tuffy: Uh, I’m pretty sure it’s 114 days.   

(They all laugh.)   Chris: Noelle, how do you do it? You make it look so easy.   Noelle: (laughing) Oh Chris, it wasn’t easy.  But, I figured out that I needed to compete against myself…   LeaAnn: …And see competitors as friends. (fist bump with Noelle)   

(They all laugh again.  A loud screeching sound is heard and everyone turns to look at the ice track. A bobsled comes flying across the stage.  Noelle helps the other four teammates move out of the way but doesn’t get herself moved in time.  The bobsled hits her and she falls behind it obscuring view of her.)   

Teammates:  Noelle!   

(Teammates rush to help her and move the bobsled. Noelle looks down at her leg in shock. LeaAnn holds her head.) 

  Noelle: LeaAnn, my leg!  Oh, what happened?   Katie: Get an ambulance!   

(siren and lights)   Noelle: (In a daze) Whoa, my heel is touching my calf…Is that my bone?      

(Enter Medics.)   Chris: (Panicked to the medic…) It jumped the track…it hit Noelle…that bobsled had to be going 60 or 

70 miles an hour.   Medic: It’s a compound fracture.  I have to set the leg.   Katie: Ok, Noelle, this is going to hurt a lot.   Medic:  Ready?  All: one…two…three….       (Medic pulls as Noelle screams and passes out.)

LeaAnn:  (Squeezing Noelle’s hand, quietly and sincerely.) I will pray for you, Noelle.   

(Medics place her on the stretcher.)     Scene 13­A: Mad Science – A Natural Reaction  (Boy and Girl Scientists)   Boy Scientist: Now she eez dead.   Girl Scientist: She is not dead, she’s only passed out.  It’s a natural reaction for our bodies to go into a 

state of unconsciousness after major trauma.   Boy Scientist:  Of course, I knew zat. I vas just pulling zee leg. Ha ha!     Scene 14:  The Surgery Room  (Surgeon, Nurse, Noelle)   

(Noelle is on a hospital bed.  Female surgeon and nurse stand over Noelle, whose bottom half of body is hidden from the audience by a blue sheet.  A large lamp is over the top of her right leg.)   

Surgeon:  The tibia and fibula were crushed at point of impact.  We need to make sure we remove all parts of the bone. 

  Nurse: I think we got it all. (Setting aside a large pair of tweezers.)   Surgeon: Perfect. Hand me the titanium bar.  We don’t want these bones trying to escape again.   

(Nurse hands the doctor a bar and the surgeon lays it by Noelle’s leg as if placing it inside her leg.  Surgeon begins hammering at the bar making loud clanking sounds. Noelle wakes up and looks around bewildered.)    

Noelle:  What’s that terrible racket? (Looks at doctors and nurses hammering over her leg)  Excuse me.  Excuse me!  (The nurse looks down at her surprised.) I don’t think I’m supposed to be awake for this! 

  (The nurse considers a moment and then covers Noelle’s head with the blue sheet and goes back to watching the hammering.) 

  Noelle:  (after a moment) Ummm…I can still hear you!   Scene 15 ­ A: Not Letting Go  (Steve, Brian)

(Steve is pacing on opposite side of stage from surgery.)   

SONG:  WHERE’S MY DREAM (STEVE) Steve: Where’s My Dream? 

I get blinder every day. And it all just fades away. 

  (Enter Brian) 

  Brian:   Steve, what is going on?!  You’ve been spending all your time alone.   Do you want to be an  

Olympian?     

Steve: Brian, I have to retire.   

Brian: Retire!  What are you talking about?  You’re 27 years old.  You just had the best year of your career.   You can’t retire.  We’re on the cusp of history here! 

  (Steve turns away) 

 Brian:  Steven!     

SONG:  LET SOMEBODY KNOW  (Steve, Brian)   

Steve: (singing) It's not just my eyes going dark. Something inside has lost that spark. After all these years, running from my fears, I wish that I could just make myself disappear. 

  Brian: (spoken) Steve? 

(singing) Let somebody know the secrets you've been keeping. Let somebody know and wake them from their sleeping. 

  You're the one deciding what your heart is hiding. Don't let this trouble grow­­(Steve: I Can’t let it go….) Just let somebody know.   Steve:Is there still a future for me? If there is, it's one I can't see. In the brightest light­­ Now the darkest night. What am I supposed to be?

  Brian and (Steve): 

Let somebody know (What about the dreams I've lost?) The sorrow you’ve been bearing. (No one knows how much they cost.) Let somebody show (Just forget the life I had?) The kindness and the caring. (Just pretend it's not so bad?)   Be the one revealing (Nothing they can do!) What your heart is feeling.  (They don't have a clue!) We’ll help you take it slow— (Oh, here I go.  I’ll . . .) 

  Both: Let somebody know. 

  Steve: Brian, (pausing and trying to find the words) I’m blind.     Brian:  So that’s why…(pausing long enough to become convinced) We’re going to fix this!  I’m 

going to go make some calls.  (Exits)   

(Steve is left stunned and collapses into a sitting position having just let go of a very heavy secret.)  

  Scene 15 ­ B: Not Letting Go (Noelle, Surgeon)   

(The lights dim and come up on the other side of stage where Noelle is alone in a hospital bed with her leg in a cast.  She is staring at it. ) 

  SONG:  WHERE’S MY DREAM (NOELLE REPRISE) 

  Noelle: Where’s my Dream? 

I was set for number one And now my dream is done.   Where’s my dream? It was knocking at my door Now crashing to floor   Training endlessly, Without Family Worked so hard to come this far And see it torn from me. 

  (Noelle starts to cry a little.  Surgeon comes in and sees her.  Music builds as if Surgeon is going to start singing “Let Somebody Know”) 

  Surgeon: Noelle? (Making sure she’s the right patient.)

  (Noelle looks up hopeful for some sympathy or encouragement.)  

  Surgeon:  (with voice flat and lacking any sympathy) Why are you crying?!   

(Music stops abruptly.)   Noelle:  (jaw drops and eyes widen) What?     Surgeon:  (a little louder and more annoyed) Why are you crying?!   Noelle:  (aside) You get hit by a bobsled and see how you feel…   Surgeon:  You have a choice here.  You can cry about what just happened, or you can move on. Your leg 

is broken, and feeling sorry for yourself won’t change that. (Turns abruptly and exits.)   

(Noelle is stunned.  Piano solo plunks out “Let Somebody know/Where’s my Dream” softly as Noelle sits contemplating.) 

  Scene 15 ­ C: Not Letting Go (Steve, Noelle)   

SONG:  I’M NOT LETTING GO     (Music builds as lights come up on Steve as well, who stands.  Noelle sits up in her bed 

with new determination.)   

Noelle and Steve Singing:  The choice is now before me The future can’t ignore me Will I give up here?­­ (Noelle: NO)  (Steve: I won’t lose hope) I’m NOT LETTING GO!   Steve: I let somebody know…   Noelle: I’m not letting go…   Noelle and Steve:    It may not be as soon for me…   But I’m not letting go!

(Music starts – Cast walks in with flags. Set flags on stage.  Olympic fanfare with kids, flags and stands cheering, filling stage.) 

      PAUSE/FREEZE   Scene 16­A:  Bedtime – Mom’s First Olympics (Lacee, Traycen, Janson)   Janson:  Ok, kiddos it’s getting late. Lights out. (stands to leave)   Lacee:  (disappointed) Oh, we can’t go to bed now.    Traycen:  Yeah, we’re just getting to the good part ­­­ Mom’s first Olympics!   Both Kids:  C’mon, Dad!    Janson:  (pause) Doh, you got me. (returns to sit on bed)     Scene 16 (cont.):  (Reporters, Steve, Olsen, Mesler, Tomasevicz, Brian, 

Noelle, Janson, Lacee, Traycen)   Reporter Bob: Welcome to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games here in beautiful Vancouver, Canada.  We are 

at the track waiting for the final run of this amazing American bobsled team.  Meredith and Hannah are reporting from the track. 

  Reporter Hannah:  Thanks Bob. This foursome is hard to beat, especially its driver, Steve Holcomb.   Reporter Bob:  Yes, Steve Holcomb is the story of this Olympics!  After losing his eye sight, his 

coach, Brian Shimer, led him to a doctor who performed a new procedure that restored Holcomb to perfect vision, landing him back in these Winter Games. 

  Reporter Meredith: That’s right, Bob.  Miraculously, Steve Holcomb literally went from blindness to 

perfect vision because of the new procedure fittingly named after him: The Holcomb C3­R.   Reporter Bob:  Amazing! If this team wins, Steve Holcomb will definitely be the comeback kid of these

Olympic Games.  The US has not won a gold medal in bobsledding in 62 years.  Can this team really do it? 

  (Lights brighten on center stage where bobsledders and Steve are ready to go.) 

  Steve:  This is it boys!  Just one more run like the others!  (Puts on helmet)   

(Bobsledders jump in the sled and take off. Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of the race.) 

  Reporter Hannah:  They look smooth so far!  They are approaching the last apex. They are on track for a 

medal, but will it be the gold? ………(dramatic pause) YES! YES! YES!  It’s the gold Medal!        (Brian runs over to Steve and hugs him)    Reporter Hannah:  Steve Holcomb, who once was blind, has made history! He and his team have taken 

the Gold! Back to you Bob.  Reporter Bob:  That was an amazing bobsled race.  Up next we have the skeleton, a favorite is Noelle 

Pikus­Pace.  Meredith…   Reporter Meredith:  Yes, Bob, she was favored to take Gold at the Olympics 4 years ago in Torino, Italy, 

but that dream was almost destroyed when a runaway bobsled crushed her leg. OUCH!  Miraculously, three weeks after surgery Noelle was racing again and barely missed qualifying for Italy. 

  Reporter Bob: It doesn’t look like she let any of that stop her.   

(Enter Noelle)   Reporter Meredith:  That’s right Bob.  In the last four years, she graduated with a Bachelor’s 

Degree (Noelle handed diploma), a Masters Degree (Noelle draped with robe), started an active­wear business (a beanie is put on Noelle’s head), and had a beautiful baby girl named Lacee (baby doll is handed to Noelle with matching beanie cap). 

  Lacee: (From the bed turns on the flashlight and shines it in her face.) That’s me!   Reporter Meredith:  Wow, that’s an amazing…(cough) off season.  Noelle.  Noelle,  (getting her attention.) 

(Noelle gives her stuff to her Mom and Janson.) How did you do it?    Noelle:  After that freak accident, someone taught me that I had a choice.  I could look back and be sad or look forward and pursue my dreams.  So that’s what I did!   

SLED QUOTE:  You always have a choice!   Reporter Hannah: There you have it, folks!  Her unbeatable spirit is one of the reasons why she’s a

favorite here at these games.   

(She says goodbye to her family and sees Brian returning from the Bobsled medal stand and looks to take advantage of talking to Brian about her nerves.)   

  Scene 17:  One Step At A Time  (Noelle, Brian)   Noelle:  Brian, hey do you have a minute?   Brian: Of course.  (They walk over to a quiet spot away from the crowd.)   Noelle:  Brian, you’re an Olympic coach and five­time Olympian… How do you handle the pressure?    Brian: With what specifically?   Noelle:  I mean, I’m here at the Olympics. THE OLYMPICS! I should be feeling light and 

happy instead of scared and weighed down.   Brian:  You mean, how do you give it your best in the moment the whole world is watching?   Noelle:  YES!  That’s it!    Brian: (He looks at her with a smile on his face.) Let me put it this way.   

(Noelle thinking:  Awesome! He’s going to give me the secret to competing in the Olympics! This is what I’ve been waiting for.)   

SONG:  STEP BY STEP (Brian & Noelle)   

Brian:  Imagine if you will, one long board upon the floor.  (spoken) Could you run across? 

Noelle:  (spoken) Well Sure! Brian:  Now imagine if you will, that same board up in the air.  Suspended way up there.  

(spoken) Could you run across? Noelle:  I wouldn't dare! Brian:   Why? Noelle:  It's too high! Brian:   Ahhh... So take it Step by Step.  With focus and good prep.

Just don’t finish fourth.   Noelle:  What? Katie, what do you mean?    Katie:  You can finish fifth, eighth or dead last.  Just don’t finish fourth.  Fourth is the absolute worst place 

to finish.  The top three get a medal…fourth place gets nothing.   Noelle:  Right, not fourth…(to herself) one step at a time.   Tuffy:  Noelle, have you done all your final checks? (Hurrying up to Noelle to make sure she’s prepared.)        Noelle: Right coach…see you at the bottom!

(Noelle jumps on sled and is off.)   Tuffy:  Wait!!!  Your shoelaces!!!   

(Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of the race.)   Reporter Hannah: And she’s off!  Looking good, she’s keeping up with the leads.  She’s a little slow 

around curve 4, but maybe she can make up for it on the lower track…It’s going to be close. Will she be fast enough to medal? … (Noelle slides in.)…Dohhh!  She missed it by one­tenth of a second! 

  Reporter Bob:  So close, but it’s fourth place for Noelle Pikus­Pace.   

(Noelle takes her helmet off.  Janson joins Noelle with baby doll Lacee.)   Reporter Hannah:  Well, that didn’t go quite how you had hoped.  How do you feel right now?   Noelle: Awe, Man!  I put it all out there on the track. I did my best. I have no regrets.    Reporter Hannah:  And here supporting you is your family.  Janson, how do you feel about her race?   Janson: I am happy with her finish. It was never just about the medal.  She did her best.   Reporter Hannah:  Thank you. We’ll be watching for you in the future.        (Janson and Noelle walk away.)   Noelle: (to Janson & Lacee) Fourth…Fourth Place.  A tenth­of­a­second outside of the medals stand and 

yet …(pause)  I feel so much peace.  It wasn't meant to be.  (smiles & shrugs.)       (Tuffy approaches Noelle)   Tuffy:  Noelle, did you realize your shoelaces were not tucked inside your shoes?    Noelle:  What?   

(Everyone looks down at her un­tucked shoelaces. Tuffy looks right at Noelle.)   Tuffy:  You gave your best, but those un­tucked laces…likely cost you a medal in that race.  The small 

things are important.  Every detail counts.

Scene 18­A: Mad Science – A Tenth­of­a­Second  (Boy and Girl Scientist)   Scientist Girl:  A tenth­of­a­second is enough time for a beam of light to cover nearly 19,000 miles  

or for a hummingbird to flap its wings 10 times.  It is about the amount of time it takes for a human to blink once.  

  Scientist Boy: Psychologists have determined zat it only takz vone­tenth­of­a­second to make a first 

impression.  Zerefore, it only took you one­tenth of a zecond to decide zat i am highly intelligent and incredibly handsome. 

  Scientist Girl:  In the world of sports, however, a tenth­of­a­second can be the difference between  

winning and losing.  Small details like the friction caused by shoelaces dragging on the racetrack can make all the difference. 

  Scientist Boy:  Such is zee case in life, too, no?  (flutters his eyelashes)     Scene 18­B:  Bedtime – Laces That Cost A Medal (Lacee, Traycen, Janson)     (Underscore with music from upcoming scene “Some dreams have to wait.”)   Lacee:  Really, she walked away that easy?  That would have been hard to know that dragging shoe 

laces cost an Olympic medal.   Janson:  It was tough, but she’d made it to the Olympics and that was our goal.    Traycen:  Wow, I’m going to learn to tie my shoelaces.    Janson:  (Laughs and stands.) Well, mom and I had lots of dreams and we were excited to start on our next 

one. Goodnight kids.   Both Kids: Night Dad.   

(Janson exits for the home scene. Lacee turns the page of photo book.)     Scene 19: Retirement  (Lacee, Traycen, Janson, Noelle)   

(Scene opens with façade of home with family. There is laughter, play and love.  Noelle Pikus­Pace with her husband Janson, alternate Lacee and baby doll Traycen.) 

  Traycen:  Hey, mom and dad have another baby…is that me? (On the bed with the flashlight.)   Lacee: Yep, that’s when you came into the picture.  Mom and dad said they wanted to grow our family.

They were expecting baby number three, a little girl.   

(Music/mood saddens. Noelle turns to profile and wraps hands around stomach and puts her head down.) 

  Traycen: Wait, what happened?  I don’t have a little sister.   Lacee:  Some dreams have to wait.  The doctor said, “Sometimes it just happens.”   

(Noelle exits. Janson goes to his workshop/table staring blankly at a partially­built cradle.)   

SONG:  SOME DREAMS HAVE TO WAIT    

Janson:  (speaking) Once upon a time….(Picking up the unfinished cradle)  (singing)  Once upon a time is What I read every night� Then I tuck in our kids� And I dim the light   Once upon a time The dreams come and go But the when and why We just never know   Some dreams seem to happen right away, And some dreams have to wait.  (Setting aside crib and picking up sled)   Hard times come and go. This won't be the last. But tempered like this steel, We're stronger from our past.   Happy ever after And a dream come true ­­ It can happen still. I'll share more dreams with you.   Some dreams seem to happen right away...  (goes to work on sled) Some dreams seem to happen right away, And some dreams have to wait ­­ 

  (Bridge) We can re­work� We can re­chart� We can renew our course

We have a choice� We'll make it great� It will be mine and yours   Some Dreams seem to happen right away� Some Dreams we must work to make our fate� Not all dreams have to wait (holding up finished sled) 

  (Janson shows Noelle the sled.  His effort and sacrifice draw her out of her sadness for a moment.  Noelle looks at sled with a slight smile and confusion). 

  Janson:  I think it’s time for you to go back.   Noelle: (Noelle stroking the runners.)  You…made this?  This is the most amazing sled I have ever seen. I 

do love this sport. (Looking up at Janson feeling like she can’t leave.)  I can’t go back. I won’t leave my family for months at a time. 

  Janson: (With tender conviction…) NO.  It’s time WE go back.  If we do this again, we do it together, as a 

family.    Noelle: All four of us?   Janson: Yes. The thought came years ago to make this sport one big family adventure, but I knew your 

dream of being a mom was more important to you than winning medals.   Noelle:  You are right, I can’t do it.  BUT WE CAN!  

SLED SIGN: We Can!   

(Lacee & Traycen join Noelle and Janson center stage and embrace in a family hug.)      REPRISE: SOME DREAMS HAVE TO WAIT   

All:  Hard times come and go. This won't be the last. But tempered like this steel, We're stronger from our past. 

  Happy ever after And a dream come true ­­ It can happen still. I'll share more dreams with you. 

  Somehow the dream that slipped away Now, won’t have to wait.

  Noelle and Janson: None of us can do anything great alone.   Both Kids: Wherever we go, we’ll call it home!    Scene 20: The Big Family Adventure (Entire Cast)   

(Spectators in the stands. Nose of plane seen on stage. Track lit.  The family stands down stage center. Sign moves to center stage behind family.  Medal and flower presenters (Sled and Sign stage hands) stand ready to go back and forth.  Noelle receives medals for her races at each location.)   

  SONG: GO NOELLE 

  It started in Lake Placid She won both times.  (Wahoo!) Then stopping in Park City, She won all of them, too. (Yippee!) Calgary, Canada:  fourth and second. Whistler, Canada:  Happy Thanksgiving!   Go, Noelle!   Team Pikus­Pace Go, Noelle! You can win this race With your family by your side It’s an exciting ride. Go, Noelle!  Go, Noelle!   France and Spain for the holidays. Ho, Ho, Ho! Happy New Year, Then to Germany we go. Third Place in Altenburg. First Place in Koenigsee. [Kin­ig­see] Then to Austria, Happy Birthday, Lacee!   Go, Noelle!   Team Pikus­Pace Go, Noelle! You can win this race With your family by your side It’s an exciting ride.

finding my dream.        Scene 21: The Sochi Olympics, 2014  (Reporters, Scientists, Noelle, Tuffy, Entire Cast)   

MUSIC: PARADE OF NATIONS ­ INSTRUMENTAL   

Sign Change:  Sochi, Russia   Reporter Bob:  Here we are in Sochi, Russia at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.   Reporter Hannah: (at the track with Meredith) The skeleton racers are prepping for their final runs.  Noelle   Pikus­Pace, the favorite in this event, is currently having her sled inspected.   Reporter Meredith: Hopefully it passes.  I hear the sled inspector is quite the character.   

(Scientists enter center stage.  Noelle approaches scientists for her sled inspection.)   Boy Scientist:  “Wow! Zis is incredible! Zis is beautiful! Zee dimensions are perfect!   Girl Scientist: Europeans spend millions of dollars to design and manufacture sleds…Where did you get 

this?   Noelle: My husband designed and built it for me.  It reminds me that my husband and family are with me 

in this race.        

(Scientist hands sled back to Noelle.)   Girl Scientist:  You pass.

  Boy Scientist:  Good luck to you my dear.   

(Noelle thanks them and heads toward the top of the track. Noelle joins Tuffy, who is nervously pacing back and forth checking his watch.) 

  Noelle:  Isn’t this awesome?  This is the Olympics!   Tuffy:  (audible sigh.)   Noelle:  You look more nervous than I feel. (gives him a pat on the shoulder) Tuffy, you’ve taught 

me how to be a better athlete through your example. You are always positive, encouraging, and serving others.  Thanks for being my coach. 

 (Both smile) 

  Tuffy:  Get after it!      

(Noelle starts the race. Spectator heads follow imaginary movement of the race.)   Noelle’s Mom:  Oh, there she goes!   Noelle’s Dad:  That’s our girl!   Steve’s Mother:  You must be so proud!   Amanda: I believe in you!   Pikus siblings (boys): That’s my sister!   Pikus siblings (girls): Go Sis!   Stephanie: You go girl!   Scientists: She is increasing her velocity!   Tristan, Katie, Chris, LeaAnn: She’s doing amazing!   Surgeon:  Go Noelle!   Eye doctor/ Medics:  Careful!   Tuffy:  I hope her laces are tucked in!   Brian:  One step at a time….

  Steve:  It’s your moment!   Janson: You can do it!   Lacee: Go mom!   Traycen:  I’m hungry!   

(Noelle crosses the finish line.)   Reporter Hannah:  She did it!  SHE DID IT!   

(Noelle jumps into stands and hugs family before it is announced what medal she won.)   Reporter Hannah:  The United States’ Noelle Pikus­Pace gets the Silver!    Reporter Bob:  This just may be the most memorable moment of these Olympic Winter Games.   Noelle: (Looks at audience as family poses for picture and yells) “WE DID IT!”   

(Photographer takes family photo.)   Reporter Hannah: (to Noelle) How do you feel right now?   Noelle:  I’m beyond words!  It’s as good as gold!      SONG:  MY TIME IS COMIN’ REPRISE (FINALE)  (Ensemble) 

My time is comin’ ­­ on that track! My time is comin’ ­­ I won't look back! I've seen others have their moment and give their all. I've seen others reach the peak and others fall. But that was someone else's moment ­­ My time is comin’! My time is comin’! My time is comin’! (Full Cast sings and proceeds with curtain call.  Scrim Drops and begins on still shots of real people, while students bow.)
