Hello!Welcometothee‐newsletterfortheVolunteerAcademy!Tokeepyouuptodatewithone‐offorshorttermvolunteeringprojectshappeninginLeicesterwethoughtwewouldsendoutafortnightlynewsletterfullofneweventsandnewopportunitiesthathavejustcomein!TogetinvolvedinanyoftheprojectsbelowpleasecontactVickyorTomintheVolunteerAcademyofficebyeitheremailingvolunteer@dmu.ac.ukorbycalling01162576304RainbowsWalkofLife–Marshalls~14thJuneRainbowsistheonlychildren’shospiceintheEastMidlands,andprovidesrespite,palliativeandendoflifecareforchildrenwithlifelimitingillnesses,aswellassupportforthewholefamily.TheHospicerequiresinexcessof£2.6millioneachyeartocontinueprovidingtheseservices,ofwhichlessthan8%comesfromstatutoryfunding.Thismeansthatthesupportofourlocalcommunitiesisessentialinraisingthefundsneededeachyear.Volunteersarerequiredasmarshallstohelpatthisyear’sWalkofLife.Theywillbeworkingintwo’sorthree’satdifferentpointsaroundthecityunderthesupervisionofasectionmarshall.Theirrolewillbetoassistandadvisewalkersundertakingthe15milesponsoredwalk,andmayalsoberequiredtohelpoutoncheckpointswithinthecitiesparks.Youcanvolunteeratvarioustimes,betweensetupat6amtoclosedownfrom4pm.TogetinvolvedcontactNicolaAdcockwhoistheeventsfundraiseratRainbowson01509638026orbyemailatnicola.adcock@rainbows.co.uk.BraunstoneSportsFestival2009~4thJulyTheBraunstoneSportsFestivalrunsalongsideandispartoftheoverallBraunstoneCarnival,whichusuallyattractsanaverageof10,000peopleofallages.
