Hello! Welcome to the e‐newsletter for the Volunteer Academy! To keep you up to date with one‐off or short term volunteering projects happening in Leicester we thought we would send out a fortnightly newsletter full of new events and new opportunities that have just come in! To get involved in any of the projects below please contact Vicky or Tom in the Volunteer Academy office by either emailing [email protected] or by calling 0116 2576304 Rainbows Walk of Life – Marshalls ~ 14 th June Rainbows is the only children’s hospice in the East Midlands, and provides respite, palliative and end of life care for children with life limiting illnesses, as well as support for the whole family. The Hospice requires in excess of £2.6million each year to continue providing these services, of which less than 8% comes from statutory funding. This means that the support of our local communities is essential in raising the funds needed each year. Volunteers are required as marshalls to help at this year’s Walk of Life. They will be working in two’s or three’s at different points around the city under the supervision of a section marshall. Their role will be to assist and advise walkers undertaking the 15 mile sponsored walk, and may also be required to help out on checkpoints within the cities parks. You can volunteer at various times, between set up at 6am to close down from 4pm. To get involved contact Nicola Adcock who is the events fundraiser at Rainbows on 01509 638026 or by email at [email protected]. Braunstone Sports Festival 2009 ~ 4 th July The Braunstone Sports Festival runs alongside and is part of the overall Braunstone Carnival, which usually attracts an average of 10,000 people of all ages. On the 4 th July volunteers are needed to help out between 10:30 and 6pm. This event is taking place on Braunstone Park. If you want to find out more and get involved contact the Academy Office at [email protected] or call 0116 257 6304.
