Old Village Hall Museum Relocated to Irmisch Historical ParkThe Historical Lindenhurst Old
Village Hall Museum has completed its Final Journey to its permanent location at the Historic Railroad Museum, located on South Broadway in Lindenhurst. The move is part of the total rebuilding of our new Main firehouse which was recently demolished after almost 90 years of service. Onlookers were amazed at how easily this historic 65 ton structure was navigated down South 1st Street, turning onto Hoffman Avenue and finally arriving at its new home and permanent location on South Broadway.
It is appropriate to preserve the history of the building in conjunction with the new firehouse coming in. We are preserving the old building as an important part of our history forever. The new location will preserve the building along with the railroad depot
and all the other things that mark our history here in Lindenhurst, said Suffolk County Legislator Elect Kevin Mc Caffrey.
This is our First Village Hall, and it was also the police station, and the general concept right now is to restore it now as a police station on that site. (Referring to the new location on South Broadway) Said Shawn Cullinane We are preserving the History of Lindenhurst today. This is going to be a pretty unique site in Western Suffolk County, at least on the South Shore of Long Island in terms of Historical Preservation while Huntington does have its Historical Sites, this is certainly a pretty big deal for us around here. Said, Village Administrator, Shawn Cullinane.

A Major Fire broke out at 202 N. Wellwood Avenue on Friday, January 2nd 2014, which happened to be the same night of the first Major Snow Storm of 2014. The Building which contained apartments and what
appeared to be an Art Studio on the ground floor suffered extensive damages and caused a heavy smoke condition that was observed several blocks away.
Thanks to the quick response of
Our fire department of which a total Five Engine Companies, Two Ladder Trucks and Two Rescue Squads, the fire was brought under control quickly. All occupants managed to escape the premises, however, it was uncertain if the occupants pet made it out safely.
Fire Police and Suffolk County Police were also on scene and quickly cordoned off N. Wellwood Avenue and John Street to allow firefighters to perform their duties without interference from onlookers.
Recently, a fire broke out on Hoffman Avenue causing several families to become displaced right before the holiday season and Lindenhurst Residents once again showed Lindy Pride and took up collections of clothing and necessities for the families. I’m sure some of our
local families are already working on items for these victims.
Once again, I must remind everyone to PLEASE Check your smoke detectors and have a “Plan of Action” in case a fire breaks out. A Special Thank You to Jackie Milton for alerting the Lindenhurst Gazette of the Fire.

Fire Rips Through Building During Blizzard
BANK ROBBERY According to Suffolk County Police Pattern Crime Unit, detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Wednesday in West Babylon. A man entered TD Bank, located at 701 W. Montauk Hwy., at approximately 11:55 a.m., approached a teller, and produced a note stating he had a
gun and demanded cash. The teller complied with the demand and gave the suspect cash from the drawer. The man fled on foot eastbound through the parking lot. The robber is described as a white male, with light brown hair, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, 25-30 years-old, with a thin build. He was unshaven,
wearing a grey Hollister sweatshirt, black baseball hat, sunglasses.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
Bonnie, the young lady pictured above, is the victim of the fire on N. Wellwood Avenue. Bonnie was at our office on Monday to pick up the Donated items that local residents brought in to help her recover from the devastating fire at her apartment on N. Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst, NY .http://www.lindygazette.com/fireman-battle-blaze-on-wellwood-avenue
Bonnie was completely overwhelmed by the generosity and support she received from the community. I can’t believe how good people are and how they would go through such trouble, to help someone. She said as she went through the more than 50 bags of clothing and miscellaneous items that were dropped off at our offices on Sunday. I arrived at our offices at 2:00 PM to find several people waiting with boxes and bags and as the day progressed our production room quickly became a warehouse with almost non-stop tragic by citizens with bags, boxes, totes and more. http://www.lindygazette.com/donations-pour-in-for-victim-of-fire/
Bonnie explained that after the fire, she wandered the streets of Lindenhurst with just the clothes on her back wondering what she was going to do. She also said that the snow just kept coming and without a jacket she was getting wetter and colder by the
minute and felt like she just could not endure any more tragedy. It was just a few short weeks ago that Bonnie’s Grandmother had passed away, and now she lost everything in the fire.
Bonnie was grateful, and teary eyed when she saw the generosity of strangers and donations of clothing, shoes, toothbrushes, curling irons, makeup and toiletries and someone even thought of comfort beyond clothing and donated candy, others offered to donate furnishings and a few even offered to assist Bonnie in searching for a new apartment and employment.
Before Bonnie left our office, she had one final thing to say to everyone who helped and that was, “You all have been so wonderful and acted so quickly to help a stranger, you have restored in me something that was lost a long time ago, and that is that people, people here in Lindenhurst really are great, and they help when help is needed. Thank you, each and every one of you from
my heart. You have restored my hope and have given me a second chance. Thank You All!
While Bonnie was sorting through items, I was busy in my office doing what I do, and I kept hearing little comments Bonnie would make to my wife Sally and to Carolyn about her life, and I can tell you this, Bonnie has seen and heard enough tragedy in her life and is a pretty strong young lady to have survived thus far. Keep Bonnie in your Prayers and to our Loyal readers, I have to say thank you for putting others ahead of your own needs. I am truly convinced that Lindenhurst has some of the most generous and kindness citizens in the USA and once again, I am proud to Boast that I Live In Lindenhurst, NY.
Bonnie, no longer is in need of clothing and can not at this time store any furnishings.

As we begin a new year, many will be making resolutions to change something about themselves or about their lives! Maybe, you’re one of the few who will be making the resolution to ‘Break out of the box’ or to ‘Remove some limitations’ on your life you feel, are holding you down.
If that’s you, then you just need to ‘Flip your Lid!” “Sounds crazy,” you say? Well, this is what I mean. You just need to Flip the Lid on your limitations! Some limits we have are natural. Some people are limited because of their financial situation, or some people are limited because of the part of the world they were born in! I don’t think anyone would disagree that if a person was born in a poor remote area of Africa, that their lives have some limitations placed on them that need to be overcome!
When we look at life we may ask, “What is it that puts LIMITS on our life?” When I was younger, my dad bought our first ride on (tractor) lawn mower. But it had a ‘limiter’ on it,
called a governor! The governor was a device that would LIMIT the speed of that lawn mower so you couldn’t drive it too fast! My older brother soon learned about that, and later removed that limiter, allowing us to go faster! Follow me as I get to my point.
Whether you believe in God or not, will not change the fact that you were created. And since we are created in His likeness, then that means we have within us, the capacity, and the ability to break out of what limits us! If you were to add His ‘Super’ to your ‘Natural,’ you would then begin to live a life more supernaturally, ‘Unlimited!’ In order to have this type of mindset, (and keep it), you will need a few things.
For the sake of space and time, let me encourage you to do this first in the new year: Surround yourself with the right people! Here’s some ‘Super’ to add to your ‘Natural!’
There is a story in scripture where four men brought their crippled friend to Jesus, because they believed He had the power to heal him. Well, they faced a LIMIT! There was a crowd so large, that they couldn’t get passed them. A ‘Crowd’ is a limitation! (Now
I don’t know what your CROWD is…or what may be crowding you. Maybe
it’s a negative thought process…a past hurt…a family member, or a tough job for example.) Surely you will agree that, that lid needs to be flipped! Look at these men! They too, faced a crowd! Some may have quit right then and there, but these four friends were persistent! They lifted their friend to the roof where Jesus was, cut a hole in the roof, and lowered him down to Jesus! Jesus was amazed at their faith and persistence, and healed their friend. (Luke chapter 5).
Likewise, you can ‘Flip the Lid’ on your limitations by beginning to surround yourself with the right people who can do for you, what you can’t do for yourself! This paralyzed man surrounded himself with friends that believed in something he didn’t, and did something for him, he couldn’t!
You need people around you that can believe something for you that you can’t believe for yourself! ‘Surrounding yourself with the RIGHT people,’ will bring out the best in you… and the bad things that you DIDN’T know existed, that NEED attending to! Ask yourself, ‘Do I have these kinds of friends?” “Will they lift me up when
I am down?” The RIGHT people will HELP you to become the person you really want to be! If your resolution is to quit smoking, lose weight, change an attitude or get in shape, this idea will apply! But don’t go it alone!
Align yourself in 2014 with those kinds of friends that will lift your spirits and encourage you to “Flip your lid.” What also will help you, is to be in a place that has those kinds of positive people in it! Heart of Worship Church, right here in town, is that kind of place! Know that when you are in the RIGHT Place, at the RIGHT Time, with the RIGHT people, and the RIGHT word, “RIGHT Things will Happen!” Happy New Year everyone!

Out with the old, in with the new (year)
How many times have we heard this phrase? Like the many changes we’ve been making around our homes and our village this year, I felt like a change to my appearance so I visited our local beauty salon a few weeks ago. As I waited for my turn, I spoke with my hairdresser who has been there for several years. I learned that the business has been around in the same location for at least 100 years or more ( though she stressed it was under several owners as they themselves are not that old). When I was done having my hair cut, I decided that it was such a warm day I would walk to my destination in the village. On a corner I sat down on the bench to rest. How different everything looks when you walk and not drive. I’ve always passed through the village in a car. Things that normally zip by through a car window, are just waiting for someone to gaze upon them. I was mentally comparing the differences of the businesses today with what I’ve researched about from the past. At the corner where I sat I
remembered a line I recently read by a Professor Weinnar during a long ago dedication, “ a city had been born, let the work go on. Let the desert bloom”. And it did. A lumber yard to help with the buildings, a wallpaper manufacturer to decorate those 200 + homes that were initially built. Businesses were first set up under temporary shelters. Bakery, grocery, dry goods and a doctors office. Others sprouted up as needs were realized. Butcher, barber, cabinet maker. Across the street from where I sat two hotels were built within a year of each other to accommodate the visitors who came to see the town. Looking to the west, I could envision the local Post Office. Anyone receiving mail back then usually had to go to Amityville or Babylon originally. In 1870 a post master was appointed and the office, which was built and paid for by Mr. Wellwood, opened in 1871 in the center of the village. We were no longer a desert whose people had to roam to other areas to retrieve our mail! Strolling through the village, I could imagine walking all those years ago and visiting the local stores as the sun
shone straight down Wellwood Ave. I noticed in the center of the village the open space where the old firehouse was and the Village Historical Society was up on lifts being readied for it’s move to a new location. Changes that are welcome to better our village. When I arrived home, I found a box delivered by the Post Office to me. I opened it to find a doll I had received from my mother around my 10th birthday (many years ago). It was my Shirley Temple doll. Her curls are long gone, but her knee dimples remain. My sister had saved it all these years and when she passed away my niece, knowing it’s history, forwarded it to me for Christmas. Oh,the memories. Not just the doll, but how family loves and supports one another. And, after all, what else do we have? May 2014 bring even more good memories to all of us.

ContentsI hope not! There’s something good going on at the south end of Broadway in
our village. It’s called the “Loyal Order of Moose”.
Lodge #1421 has been in Lindenhurst for 61 years, but few residents know about it. “Why?” you say. As a fraternal organization, the lodge is not permitted to advertise. No, there are no secret handshakes or funny hats.
Last year, the lodge was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Due to members’ support and donations, the lodge was able to be rebuilt in under a year and it looks better than ever!
The Loyal Order of Moose (LOOM) exists primarily to support Mooseheart, a child city for member’s children left alone by tragedy, as well as Moosehaven, a development for elderly members to live. In addition to community service events, the lodge is available for member use to host various events, including weddings, Sweet 16s, holiday celebrations, and so much more!
Stop down and say “Hello!” You may make some new friends or find a new outlet that can make a difference in another’s life.
So c’mon down and check us out! Tell them Bro. Brian sent you!
Fraternally,Bro. Brian Drummond
P.S.: Check out the Lodge events calendar at www.loom1421.org!
Can YOU Keep a Secret?
of House and building movers based out of Blue Point Long Island. Had this to say, Our family started in 1890, and we have been doing this for quite a long time, a big part of our business is moving and preserving historical buildings on the east coast. We just finished a giant historical church in
Cambridge Massachusetts last week for Leslie University, and we go up and down the east coast saving historical structures. I asked Guy a little about the equipment that was used, and he told me, They are using hydrostatic dollies which allows one person to control the driving, steering and controls of the building being moved. Guy said that
this control is a new innovation to the industry and from what I can see it is working very well. I also asked Mr. Davis if they were still doing House Lifting from Storm Sandy and Mr. Davis said they have done hundreds of houses from Sandy and are still available to help those in need. Mr. Davis said more information about his company can be found at http://www.davisbuildingmovers.com/. Guy is personally involved in every project and employs the newest technology for both safety and precision. A leader in the structural moving industry, Davis Construction Building Movers can move any structure regardless of size, shape, weight, age or distance.
If you look at some of the photos I have taken, you will see workers on top of the building cutting low overhanging branches and other workers in the street using long poles to push utility lines above the moving structure. Onlookers were amazed at how easily the entire
process and motorists passing by were snapping photos and shooting video during the move.
Also on hand were the President of the Lindenhurst Historical Society and the Village Historian as well as the distinguished Dr. Vogelsburg a lifelong resident and former Police Surgeon. You may remember Dr Vogelsburg as the man who “Threw the switch” at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting earlier in December.
The Lindenhurst Gazette was very pleased to record this momentous occasion in our history and we look forward to sharing our photos and related stories with our readers and fellow residents.
More on this story and additional photos will be preserved in our next issue of the Lindenhurst Gazette, YOUR Local Newspaper.

It’s Official I am a very lucky man. I
not only get to serve the Village of Lindenhurst as an Elected Official and am employed with one of the largest Public Safety companies in the world, but I have a wonderful wife, Helen and daughter, Nicole as well. So much so, that it is Helen, who has previously edited two of my columns (so if I sound intelligent at all, it is because of her).
She also gave me the idea for this edition’s column. Since many folks may not know much about us as other than as elected officials, she thought it would be a good idea to provide some information about each of us. Therefore, this column is devoted to introducing each of us in a short biography, giving you an idea of where we have come from and what we do in our “other” lives.

All third-grade students at Daniel Street E l e m e n t a r y S c h o o l created candy land forests, using their imaginations to decorate winter
w o n d e r l a n d scenes with a variety of sweets. Ice cream cones were flipped over to become forest trees, frosting turned into ice-skating rinks, licorice was used
for huts, and gummy bears became forest animals.
“It was amazing to see the imaginations of the third-graders,” said teacher Alana
Buffa. “It was a fun and festive afternoon.” After the activity, students wrote about their i n d i v i d u a l projects in their journals.

Amit Kleinberger got up close and personal with his employees—and the rest of America can, too. The CEO of the frozen yogurt concept Menchie’s is the most recent guest on Undercover Boss, and his episode aired on CBS on October 25.
In the past, the Emmy Award–winning reality show has featured multiple quick-serve leaders, including Kat Cole of Cinnabon, Lynne Zappone of Popeyes, and Rick Silva of Checkers. Undercover Boss gives those in the corner office a unique opportunity to experience the front lines of their business.
“Since I spend most of my time behind my desk, it was appealing for me to go and learn what takes place inside the stores,” Kleinberger says. “I have over 350 locations around the world today, and I can definitely
appreciate having the ability to go visit … and see what’s happening on the ground level.”
For the Menchie’s CEO, the ground-level experience revolved around testing the Menchie’s mission to make people smile. “We have a guest care platform, which is our customer service component, which we believe is one of our key differentiators between who we are and other brands,” he says. “It’s about the greeting, the design, the warmth of our locations, how inviting they are, etc.”
Kleinberger swapped his suit for a lime green Menchie’s polo and red smock and can be seen interacting with guests, prepping Menchie’s frozen yogurt, and cleaning bathroom toilets. “We have a [character] costume, so I wore the costume,” he
adds. “I even held a kid’s birthday party in one of our stores.”
But he says the most unexpected part of the experience was his time spent at Menchie’s dairy farm, which is the source of all of the company’s milk for its frozen yogurt products.
“My expectation for being on the farm was more about milking cows. That’s actually the least of what we did at the farm,” Kleinberger says. “A lot of fun things happened; you’ll be able to see them in the episode. One of them was birthing a calf.”
The CEO says that because of his participation in the show, he’ll be making some minor but key strategic changes to uniforms, back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house protocol, management training programs, and most importantly, employee recognition.
“There shouldn’t be a situation in which a team member doesn’t feel that they’re being recognized for their work, which is what I discovered on the show,” Kleinberger says. “And that’s something that absolutely warrants revisiting.”
And revisit he will—Kleinberger says he plans on getting out of the office more often to drop by different Menchie’s location on a monthly basis.
“Undercover Boss was a tremendous opportunity but should not be a one-time opportunity,” he says. “If there’s one thing that I’ve learned from the show personally is that I need to get more connected with what takes place in our stores, and that would probably be my best advice to any CEO in the industry.”

Barbara Pezzanite, Ph.D., CAAB, CPDT-KA
On any given day I receive numerous phone calls and emails from pet owners regarding problems they’re having with their pets. Problems stem from dogs pulling on leash or jumping to greet guests at the door, to dogs displaying unusual or compulsive behaviors, to dogs experiencing extreme anxiety when the owner leaves for work, or to varying types of dog aggression. Of course I receive plenty of inquiries on cat problems, including cats urinating out of the litter box and cat aggression. For dogs displaying unruly behaviors, I typically recommend basic obedience training, in which case I refer the pet owner to a dog trainer, specifically to a Certified Profession Dog Trainer (CPDT). CPDTs have a specialized type of training that includes having a required number of hours as a dog trainer, knowledge of basic learning theory, and canine ethology, husbandry and teaching skills, all of which is required to pass a standardized test. They must abide by a specific code of ethics, which is important
given all of the harmful training techniques implemented by some trainers. However, for problems that are psychologically rooted, such as aggression or anxiety, I recommend an animal behaviorist and accept the case.
I’m an animal b e h a v i o r i s t , s p e c i f i c a l l y a Certified Applied Animal B e h a v i o r i s t , CAAB for short. I hold a doctoral degree in P s y c h o l o g y , conducted a 2-year residency in the ASPCAs Behavior Center in Manhattan, and have been the proprietor of Long Island Animal Behavior Consulting for the past 9 years (http://www.liabc.com/). Animal Behaviorists may fall under the categories of Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists and Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists (ACAABs). The difference is that CAABs have
Ph.Ds. or veterinary degrees, and ACAABs have Master’s degrees.
We’re schooled in fields such as, psychology, biology, or zoology, and have all met the requirements for certification by the Board of Professional
Certification of the Animal Behavior Society (ABS), having expertise in:
b e h a v i o r modification, so we’re familiar with
techniques t h a t produce changes
i n behavior,
the normal behavior of the
species we’re working with, enabling us to
recognize how and why your pet’s behavior may be abnormal,
teaching and counselling, so we’re effective at teaching our clients how to understand and work with their pet, and,
many behaviorists have basic
knowledge on common medical conditions that can affect an animal’s behavior so we tend to be familiar with psychotropic medications although we cannot prescribe them.
Another class of behaviorist is specific to veterinarians only who’ve undergone specialized education in animal behavior and earned a certification through the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. Their title is DIP ACVB, which stands for “Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists.” Veterinary behaviorists are the only behaviorists who can prescribe medication.

County District Attorney’s Office. He is also the founder of the Lindenhurst Bulldog Lacrosse Association. He is a Graduate of Lindenhurst High School, Rutgers College and New York Law School.
Now that former Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey has been elected to the Suffolk County Legislature, Judge Bopp will make history by being the longest serving elected official in the Village’s history having served 24 years by March 2014. Since he plans to run again for re-election, he will add to that longevity. It is his experience in judicial matters that makes him an invaluable member of the Administration.
The Judge has coached both football and lacrosse and is also an avid sports fan.

With this year so new in our heartlet us be open to making a great new start
Keeping a good attitude with what we say and docan help the situation we may be going through
Remember that a smile can brighten someone’s dayIt can possibly help a life that seems in disarray
For everyone is battling something though they may put on a brave face
and just hearing a kind word can make this world a brighter place
Being kind to ourselves is also a constant mustBe the kind of person you would completely trust
And for the courage to begin a new startmy advice to you is freeoften repeat to yourself
