Dear Big Dawg (Professor Malcolm), My name is Annemarie Emmert (but since you are Big Dawg you can call my Little Dawg). Little Dawg seems like a good nickname for me, because I am 5 feet tall (how embarrassing). This is my first year at UNCC, and I am so excited to be here. I have lived in northern New Jersey my whole life, which is roughly a tenhour drive to Charlotte, North Carolina. I chose to attend UNCC because of its proximity to the city, and being from New Jersey New York City was always an escape from reality for me. I love being in the city, because it is a melting pot of all different people, nationalities, personalities, and cultures. From what I have seen and experienced in my first semester at UNCC, New Jersey is very different than North Carolina. In New Jersey there is a much faster pace to everyday life, where as here, in Charlotte, I feel as though everyone has a slower pace. Although Charlotte and New Jersey are much different I am so excited to accept the challenge and make Charlotte my new home. Trying to introduce myself to you through a letter feels a little bit awkward, but I will try my best to fill you in on the most important things about myself. Although you have said not to say hanging out with friends as one of your hobbies, my friends are a huge part of my life. I feel as though hanging out with my friends is a hobby for me, because I love interacting with other people and learning things about others. I cannot go on talking about my friends without mentioning my best friend at UNCC, Jessica McLeod (we are both currently writing the same letter to you listening to The Script and John Mayer). I met her at SOAR in June; at first she did not like me, because she thought I was rude (clearly she got over that). But, we are inseparable and I would not be able to get through college without

  • her. We act as if we have known each other our entire lives, and we balance each other out. She has a lot of emotions and is a very passionate person, and I have a lack of empathy, and go with the flow. (That sentence had a lot of grammatical errors; you are probably cringing after reading that). Wow, those last few sentences were kind of corny I apologize for that. I also love watching movies (especially Disney movies), listening to music, and just doing whatever makes me happy. I also love the ocean; the sound, the smell, the feeling of loosing yourself in the waves, tide pools, and watching little kids making sand castles. As you can tell I do not have many hobbies, but I am very open to trying new things and taking chances. My major as of right now is Elementary Education, and I am still debating on double majoring in Special Education. I chose elementary education, because I want to make a difference in a childs life. I also love the company of young impressionable minds. I have a huge spot in my heart for those who have learning disabilities, because I want them to be as smart if not smarter than everyone else in the world. Bringing up Jessica again, I just have to throw in here that we have had every class together this year, except for one. I did tell you before that we were inseparable that applies to the classroom as well. Well as my final paragraph in this letter, I should probably talk about your class. Writing is definitely not one of my strong points, especially grammar. I feel the need to apologize several times throughout this letter for all the grammatical errors. In your class I hope to expand my knowledge about writing, and be able to feel comfortable writing. Well at the bottom of this page there are a few pictures of myself. I cannot wait to meet you in class - Little Dawg ( Annemarie)
