• Decouple control plane of routers and switches from data plane - make control plane programmable from anywhere

• Move routers onto cheap x86 hardware

Traffic manipulation (and QoS) is good

1. SDN/NFV = easy, low-cost network traffic manipulation for anyone

2. Significantly lowers threshold for access to advanced networking functionalities (for end-users, SME, service providers)

3. Makes it significantly cheaper to program and manage E2E network functionalities

Everything "neutral and equal" – competition where?

• No competition on network performance – just "speed"

• No optimization for specific services (streaming, gaming, VPN, ecommerce)

• No competition on interconnect (peering & transit)

• No competition on best E2E x-ISP/cloud performance

• Everything is equally dumb, but "neutral"

• Great Quality of Experience gets rewarded

• Poor performance gets penalized (no hiding behind "neutral")

• Incentives for investing, network and service innovation and development

• Fosters cooperation between ISPs to achieve great E2E performance

When all traffic to be treated equally dumb: 1) Both customer/consumer and supplier penalized for bad, best-effort, but "neutral" Internet supply-chains shared market interest. 2) Current NN approach doesn't reward network service development and doesn't drive competition on network performance. 3) Nothing exciting* has happened in Norwegian/Nordic/European networks for years – time to let service providers compete! 4) Users and businesses will move to QoS, network optimized cloud providers for better E2E control and performance
