Step 1 – Cable Preparation

Steps for preparing Non-OMT and OMT cables are provided first and then instructions for installing the connector follow.

Common Step for Both Cable Types 1. Orient strain relief boot as shown and slide it

over the cable jacket and out of the way for later assembly.

2. Score cable jacket approximately 2” (51mm) from the end using a precision jacket scoring tool that has fine adjustment settings, such as the Xcelite 2CSKY (shown) or JOKARI No.1-Cat.

3. Remove cable jacket back to the score line.

Step 1a – Preparation of Non-OMT UTP Cable

1. Spread apart pairs to access the center flute.

2. Pull flute off to one side and trim it as close to jacket as possible.

Step 1b – Preparation of OMT UTP Cable Note: Preparation of OMT-type UTP cable is illustrated and described here. Other UTP cable preparation is the same except it may contain a center tape instead of a flute and may not have a separator tape between the twisted pairs.

1. Spread apart pairs to access the separator tape and flute.

2. Twist open pair end to expose the separator tape.

3. Using a counter-clockwise rotation, unwind separator tape down to the cable jacket without untwisting the pairs.

4. Pull flute and tapes off to one or more sides.

5. Trim flute and tapes off as close to jacket as possible.

Step 2 – Assemble Connector

1. Spread the conductor pairs apart and untwist each pair to within approximately 1/4” (6.4mm) of the cable jacket, then place wire aligner between them with the tapered end toward the jacket. Place orange pair in channel on the left side and brown pair in channel on the right side. Place blue and green pairs into upper and lower center channels.

2. Push wire aligner towards cable jacket as far as it will go and pull pairs snugly into wire aligner channels. Flatten out pairs and arrange conductor colors so they match the T568B color map below. Keep orange pair on the left and brown pair on the right.

Important: On one end of the cable the blue pair will be in upper center channel and the green pair will be in lower center channel, while on the other end of the cable the green pair will be in upper center channel and the blue pair will be in lower center channel.

Shown above is the industry standard color sequence for T568B wiring. Wiring colors may vary by cable. Please verify the color pattern specific to your particular requirements.

Note: When aligning wires to the color pattern, maintain existing twist of the wire pairs. Do not add or remove more than half-a-twist to any pair to achieve the required color pattern.

3. If necessary, use needle-nose pliers or tweezers to pull on end of each conductor eliminating as much twist as possible on OMT solid conductor cable.

4. Using scissors or side cutters, trim the ends of conductors at an angle, as shown, to make it easier to insert conductors into the load bar.

Note: Remove the least amount of wire necessary to do this.

5. Select the correct load bar for the outside diameter of the conductors. Clear load bar for diameter 0.033” to

0.038” (0.84 to 0.97mm) or Black load bar for diameter 0.037” to 0.042” (0.94 to 1.07mm).

6. Position load-bar so the flared (angled) end is facing the conductors and slots are facing up. Insert conductors into the load bar while maintaining the T568B wire color sequence as shown.

7. Slide load bar over the conductors until it is

tight against wire aligner, then trim conductors flush to the load bar using flush side cutters.

8. Orient assembly so orange pair is on the left and brown pair is on the right and aligned with plug body. The latch tab on plug body should face down.

9. Carefully insert assembly into plug body until it stops. The wires should come in contact with the inside front surface of the plug body.

10. Position un-terminated plug so the latch tab faces to the front, away from the tool handles, and insert it fully into the crimp tool. Make sure plug is fully seated in tool.

11. Squeeze handles of crimp tool together until fully depressed. The handles will automatically release after the

crimping function is complete. Remove terminated plug from crimp tool and inspect the end to confirm each conductor is properly seated in a slot.

12. Repeat the above procedure for the other end of cable, if required. Important: On other end of cable the pairs in the upper and lower center channels of wire aligner will be opposite from the end just completed. On one end of cable the blue pair will be in the upper center channel and the green pair will be in the lower center channel, while on the other end of the cable the green pair will be in the upper center channel and the blue pair will be in the lower center channel.

13. Test the completed cable assembly to ensure that it meets performance requirements.
