Te rst BP Youth Fellowship in 1954 startedwith seven members, at Lie BP Church,

Prinsep Street. We planted and watered, andthe Lord gave the increase. Tat was almostsixty years ago.

Trough the years we have seen manychanges, some or the better, some or theworse alling into apostasy. But our Lordremains the same, ever unchanging, aithul.

We must ollow in His steps.

Youth is the time to begin serving the Lordin godly grouping and ellowship. Youth isalso the time to stand up or God and or thetestimony o our Lord Jesus Christ. o youngimothy, the apostle Paul wrote Let no mandespise thy youth; but be thou an example

o the believers, in word, in conversation,in charity, in spirit, in aith, in purity (1

    imothy 4:12).

imothy rose to the challenge, took upthe call. In his time, Martin Luther was atriumphant reormer at 25, John Calvin at 21years. How old are you, YF reader? God usedimothy, Luther and Calvin, mightily Hecan use you too!

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou anexample or the Lord!

It is an honour and privilege or us to be thebatch o YFers that has the grand opportunityto commemorate CPYFs 30th Anniversary. As the Lord has been aithul to His servant

David in time past, the Lords promiseresonates with us today, preserving us youth, preserving us rom evil that so easily besets us.

As we look back at the past 30 years oGods blessings, we cannot help but thankand praise God or the bountiul mercies Hehas showered upon us. 30 years o spiritual

eeding, 30 years o serving the Lord. Justas our past generations o YFers have gonethrough the ranks o the YF and haveproceeded to other services in church andgrown into ruitul and mature Christians, ouraim is to continue to nurture young men andwomen to become strong Christians, steadastin aith, and zealous in service.

As you read through this publication, it ismy prayer that you will be much blessedand heartened by the witness o both YFersand ex-YFers, and be able to join us in our

rejoicing and praise to our Lord or His graceand mercies upon us all these years.

While we take this time to reect on the pastgoodness o God in our lives, we covet yourprayers as we continue to serve our Lordtogether in His church. May we all continueto have an earnest desire to live a lie that is

in accordance to our YF motto o KnowChrist, and to Make Him Known, all thedays o our lives.

Some churches do not have FellowshipGroups. Tey believe that the Bible saysnothing about Fellowship Groups in the localchurch and thereore they do not need them.Tis argument is allacious, as the Bible also

did not say anything about worshipping inair-conditioned sanctuaries or wearing a suitor preaching, and many other things thatChristians do during worship. However, manychurches do have Fellowship Groups. TeseFellowship Groups can be either blessing, orgaps in the church or evil work i they are notcareully monitored and guarded.

Fellowship Groups are grouped according toage or gender. Tis acilitates ease in dealingwith common issues. man. Every item in Fellowship Groups hasto be Christ-centred according to the HolyScriptures. Te unstated question in decidingthe programmes or the ellowship is this:how will this activity or programme help the

    group grow in Christ?

We need not conne activities to only PrayerMeetings and Bible Studies. As long as theactivities are not sinul or compromising, theyare acceptable. Te key is to plan programmesthat will help members abide in Christ. Forexample, the young people might plan anouting at the beach or a soccer game at thepark or Christian bonding and getting toknow one another better. Te Ladies Groupmight plan to have a cooking or bakingsession to enhance Christian ellowship. Techildren might plan a kite-ying activitywhere parents with their children canhave ellowship and spend time together.Tese healthy activities complement Prayer

Meetings and Bible Studies but must neverreplace them.

Tese Fellowship Groups are part o the localchurch and are NO a miniature local church.Tey must be well cared or, or the nurturingo the believers. Enemies can easily creep intothese Fellowship Groups and turn them into

windows or the Evil One to sow seeds odiscord and alse doctrines. Many churcheshave allen because inroads were made by theEvil One through these Fellowship Groupsto destroy churches. Session members must

oversee these Fellowship Groups or thepurpose o accountability, to supervise theirprogress, care, and protection, as a mother henwatches over her chicks. Te pastor is the ex-ocio o all the Fellowship Groups to ensurethat they unction with right and biblicaldoctrines, and in an orderly manner.

Te purpose o Fellowship Groups is to ensurethat believers truly abide in Christ. I they donot, then all is vanity. Perect attendance andservice in the committees are utile to sinnerswho are not part o Christ. Without Christ,we can do nothing! Te Fellowship Groupsmust help believers grow in the grace andknowledge o the LORD Jesus Christ. Tisis the measure o a spiritual ellowship! Te

transormation in the lives o the people whoare part o these groups is supernatural. It isthe work o God Almighty. o abide in Christis to grow in the LORD! AMEN.

Teir mere presence, week ater week, isindeed a orm o encouragement to theQNQ or we are oten reminded that there

It was a truly memorablecamp or many o us and by Gods grace theriendship orged through the camp remainseven till today. What let us truly in awe athow the Lord has blessed us through the YFcamp is the spiritual revival that ateul camphas brought to QNQ. Important Partnership OfYouth Fellowship with Junior Worship

Te Calvary Pandan Youth Fellowship hasplayed an important role working closely withthe Junior Worship department in achievingmany spiritual goals. For this, we at JWare immensely grateul. Tank you or yourunstinting support. It is great to work togetherto urther Gods kingdom.

For the past 30 years, but particularly in

the last 10 years, we have teachers in theJW who are YFers themselves. Tese haveusually grown up within the church sincetheir childhood. Tey have co-laboured withus well, teaching and nurturing the childrenaithully in Sunday school. Some o you havealso served as musicians and singspirationleaders, again making a vital contribution.Tere are others who have used their God-

given talents in other areas e.g. decorating theJ.W. notice boards and taking special ad-hocroles during special occasions.

YFers play a signicant role during the twomost important events in the JW calendar: theVacation Bible School (VBS) and JW Camp.

Tis is especially noticeable during the last

5-10 years as more children enrolled or VBS.Without you, it will be almost impossible torun a successul VBS programme to cater toso many children (more than 200) which theLord has blessed us with. We remember thehard work o those who served in the VBSCommittee, Bus Ministry, as Games Leaders,eachers/Helpers and musicians. At everyJW Camp, again the labour o love o those

o you who helped out is greatly appreciated.ogether we worked to bring the gloriousgospel o Christ to the children as well ashelping them to grow in Christ.

ruly all o us are reminded to lit up ourhearts to praise the Lord or the bodyo Christ working harmoniously as Godintended (Psalm 133). Happy blessed 30th

Dear Calvary Pandan YF,We thank God that we can rejoice with you

on your 30th anniversary. It is a testimony oGods aithulness in keeping this ministrythrough these three decades. We thank God or the common bond we havein the Lord Jesus Christ in the proclamationo the Gospel and in the deence o theperectly inspired and preserved Bible.

As we persevere in love and good works, letus not orget the humility o our Lord JesusChrist. Te Lord says in Luke 22:27b, I amamong you as he that serveth. Let us take thisopportunity to examine ourselves i we haveserved others humbly as our Lord Jesus Christdid. Have we in lowliness o mind esteemed

others better than ourselves? Have we parted

ways with the desire o mens vain applause, the empty pleasures o the world, and ourond ambitions that we may avail ourselves orthe Kings service?

Let us remember to serve one another inChrists humility as we grow in the graceo God. May we also grow in the love oGod and His Word in these last days, or

    Counsellors Note 19

In 1929, Anne May Sebring Murphy lost herhusband. Ten, she lost their pottery business

and wealth. So, she packed her bags andmoved rom Ohio to live with her sister inCaliornia. She died in 1942 at the age o 64.Little else is written about this woman whopenned the beautiul lyrics in ConstantlyAbiding. I surmised that the hymn wasa personal testimony to the endurance ohardship resulting rom her husbands death.Yet, together with her sister, she ound

peace the peace that surpasses all humanunderstanding (Philippians 4:7). Tey alsoelt the constant abiding o the Holy Spirit, the Comorter whom Christ promised to allbelievers to abide with them orever till Hetakes them to their heavenly home on thatglorious day.

Living our sojourn on earth has its trials andtribulations; some similar, less or more painulthan what Murphy had to endure. But nomatter what journey our Lord has planned orus, Christians need the ellowship o otherswith minds and hearts ocused on Christ.Tis is something that the New estament

constantly emphasizes. Christ said, Tis ismy commandment, that ye love one another,as I have loved you (John 15:12). Such lovemaniests itsel, not only in supporting othersduring their trials, diculties and weaknesses, but also in ediying and encouraging eachother to do what is godly. In this way, we shareour burdens. Further, Paul reminds us thatthe church is one body in Christ. Yet, like the

human body, each part is dependent uponothers. When we ellowship with one anotherat church services and various ministries,we develop the ruit o Gods Spirit love, joy, peace, longsufering, kindness, goodness, aithulness, gentleness and sel-control(Galatians 5:22-23).

Calvary Pandan Youth Fellowship is 30 yearsyoung and the clarion call to all members isto constantly abide together in Christ. Andthere has never been a time in our callingwhen we need to excite one another or thework o God more than now. We need to bemotivated to stand tall in the Word o God.

We ought to have great love or Gods lawsand each other. We should not stay awayrom our meetings as some do; but rather, encourage one another to come and servetogether, because we see the day o the Lorddrawing near.

May our Lord continue to bless the YouthFellowship with more young people who

abides His will and serves Him ever aithully.

Thank God For YF!Greetings to all in the blessed name o ourLord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

When I was approached to contributean article titled Retrospect, I was quiteapprehensive. Firstly, it is or our CPYF 30thAnniversary Publication. Tat would meana wider target audience, and not only orinternal, but external circulation too. Secondly,my memories o events o two to threedecades ago are rather dim and aint! I know

some o you have started to extrapolate myage. Tirdly, the diculties to clearly narrateand relate these events, and put them into theright perspectives or all o you, CPYFers!

Ok, lets begin this personal letter to mybeloved Calvary Pandan YFers, or thetestimony and glory o our Lord Jesus Christ.

    (A) Calvary Junior Fellow ( JF, 1974-1977)A larger portion o my letter will ocus on myspiritual ormative years in YF, both in Jurongand Pandan. I attended Calvary Jurong in late1974 and accepted the Lord as my Saviourin 1975. Tis is the gospel debt I owe to myGod. Te rst ew years in church were spent

in the JF, led and supervised by adult teachers.I really thank God or these teachers, who

have taken time to care and nurture us inthe undamental doctrines o the aith. Teyhave sacriced many hours every Saturdayevening to spend time with us, minister romthe Word o God, help us with Bible versememorisation, teach new songs, introducegames, etc. Te teachers helped us developleadership skills: chairing meetings, leadingin prayer, song leading, room arrangements,

duty planning, etc. For these, I thank Godor bringing them into my lie. It is never tooearly to learn and be trained or the Lordsministry.

    (B) Calvary Youth Fellowship(CYF, 1978-1981)When I was in JF, I used to look up to theolder brothers and sisters. Teir meeting

was held weekly too. JF was in the 3rd levelstudio and YF was in 2nd level classroom.Sometimes, I would peek into the classroomto see what was going on inside. Oh, whatamazed me was the lively singing, andthe joyous expressions they had duringsingspiration. I wanted to be like them when

I grow up! Beore I realized it, I was alreadya true blue YFer. It was an easy transitionor me, as my elder brother had prepared thepath or me. His church riends were alsomy riends, so it was pretty easy to mix and

ellowship with them at YF. Yes, YF singingwas so lively and spontaneous. Messages werevery apt, and catered to our age group. I recallvividly that our gathering did not just endwith the YF meeting. We continued to stayback in the church or more ellowship, tillthe church caretaker literally chased us out ochurch when it was too late. Most o us wereliving nearby, and we accompanied each other

    home more ellowship!

At YF, I got interested in learning to playthe guitar. I thought to mysel, How nice itwould be, i I could learn quickly and play orYF. Tat was my drive and determination. Itook every opportunity to learn alongside myelder brother and riend. I learnt my rst songBurdens are lited at Calvary. Ah, I started

on a wrong path. It was played in D-chords,and 3/4 time signature! You will know what Imean i you are a guitarist. Nevertheless, thatdid not deter me, and soon, I thank God Icould play all the songs in the YF songbook,by His grace, and or His glory :) Some o uswere given opportunities to serve as guitarists

in JW, and we enjoyed singing with thelittle ones. So, why not serve Him with yourmusical talent?

Te older ones soon moved up to Adults

Fellowship, and we started to take onleadership roles. I have never led any groupbeore, as I was always in my elder brothersshadow. Now was the time to step up andlead! I thought it was an easy task to be agroup leader. Soon, I realized being a leaderis not easy. It did not just include planninggroup activities, and building group dynamics.Te more important role was nurturing

group members to a higher level o Christianmaturity as a youth. I had ailed in this aspect, and it was a painul experience, and lingeredon or many years. Te Lord was graciousand reminded me in 2 Cor 12:9 And he saidunto me, My grace is sucient or thee: ormy strength is made perect in weakness. Most gladly thereore will I rather glory inmy inrmities, that the power o Christ may

rest upon me. Hope this will comort andbring strength to those who are weary, anddiscouraged in service, and eel like throwingin the towel. Tink again.

    (C) Calvary Pandan Youth Fellowship(CPYF, 1979-1991, 2002 to present)In 1979, a ew months ater the churchcommenced its rst service, some youngpeople wanted a ministry to cater to their

needs. Tat gave birth to the Pandan YouthBible Club. It was started by some o ouryouths who moved out o Calvary YF(Jurong) to start this Bible Club. Te Lordlaid the burden on these youths to move outo their comort zone, to start a new youthministry in the inant church. In 1980, thegroup decided to change the name to CalvaryPandan Youth Fellowship, in line with the

type o activities ound in a ellowship. Itwas then that an elder in Pandan approachedme to consider serving in the inant CPYFministry. I was still serving in CYF Excothen. So I asked the elder to give me about1-2 years, trusting in the Lords guidanceand provision. For two years, I was shuttlingbetween CYF and CPYF.

In 1981, I made up my mind and moved outo the comort zone o Calvary Jurong toCalvary Pandan. By this time, I was alreadyquite integrated into CPYF and I thank Godor the opportunity to serve in the Exco. Teyears o studying the Word o God, buildingand developing Christian riendship, planning

youth activities and serving the Lord togetheras youths, were most delightul, enjoyable andmemorable. I reluctantly moved out o YF atthe age o 28, even though I was long expired in YF terminology a ew years earlier!

Our ellowship room was on the third level, the one we usually use or current CPYFExco meetings. Te YF room was cooledby a an as there was no aircon then! Weenjoyed the warm ellowship though, withaverage weekly attendance at 20. Every oneo us looked orward to the regular Sat YF

youths through the FCM. Are you in FCM,and i not, why not?Serving the Lord during my youth werethe most blessed. Besides being an Excomember, there were other areas o service in

the church, eg. JW, PA team, ushers, greeters, choir, kitchen duties, arranging hymnals, arranging the ellowship hall tables/chairs,olding weekly bulletins, clearing/washingLords supper cups, etc. I recall that onmany occasions, the YF would volunteer tospring-clean the whole church, and it wastruly a great joy to see numbers gathered ona Saturday to clean the house o God! In my

opinion, youths have the most available timeat their disposal, and why not use or the gloryo God?

Te recent involvement o many o you duringthe 60th BP anniversary celebrations on 24thOct 2010 reminded me o the 10th Assemblyo the FECCC Conerence held in Singaporein 1981. Calvary Pandan was given the

privilege and honour o hosting that excitingand memorable event. We had delegatesrom all over the world. YF was one o theministries that provided the logistics support. It was a great time or all o us to mingle withthe oreign delegates. As the event coincidedwith the school holidays, we spent the whole

meetings, and would stay back or moreellowship over dinner, till we were chased

out o the church premises at about 9.30pmby the church warden. Tis still exists today!:) Te small number in attendance was a greatadvantage. It provided the ease o organisingo outdoor group activities, even at lastminutes notice. Tere were neither computersnor mobile phones then, but we still managedto communicate well! Our YF programsincluded visitations - lots and lots o them,

outings, camps, retreats, mission trips, Biblestudies. Combined YF meetings with otherBP YFs were meetings we all looked orwardto. Some o the riends made then remaintoday and we praise God or the bond we havein Christ. YF today is much more blessed, with an additional avenue to meet other BP

I learnt many new songs romthe Filipino singing group which calledthemselves Te Old-Fashioned Singers, deriving their name rom these two songs:Te Old-Fashioned Meeting and Te Old-

Fashioned Way. oday, we still sing the songsintroduced by them, like Why have youchosen me and Te Longer I serve Him.Te words o the song kept reminding me omy service or the Lord:

Te longer I serve Himthe sweeter He grows,

Te more that I love Him

more love He bestows:Each day is like heaven,my heart overows,

Te longer I serve Himthe sweeter He grows.

Every need He is supplying,Plenteous grace He bestows;Every day my way gets brighter,Te longer I serve Him

    the sweeter He grows.

oday, I thank my God or the wonderulyears co-labouring with you as the YF Advisor.I count it a special privilege to repay my Lordthe gospel debt I owe, serving in YF. Te yearsspent as a youth in both CYF and CPYFwere by ar the most memorable period omy Christian lie. All o us were spirituallynourished by the Word o God, and we

encouraged each other to serve both withinand without YF.

Dearly beloved YFer, what is holding you backrom serving the Lord? Do not procrastinateand think you have many years ahead o youryouth days to serve the Lord. Do considergiving back part o your available time as aliving sacrice the One who gave Himsel or

I came to know the Lord personally in myyouth. It was not obvious to me then, but it

was crucial or me that the Lord should leadme to a ministry or ellowship group where Ican grow as a young Christian. Tis He did,and I always thank the Lord or those ew butoundational years that set my sight rmly onHim and made my heart ready or His work.

Let me share with you some lessons which Ithought were important hallmarks o a good

    Youth Fellowship.

A good YF is a ministry where God ishonoured and His Word held in the highestregard. Te Bible is central in all matters othe lie and conduct o His children, especiallythe young ones. As such, this ministry will be

very careul to nurture all in their old in thetruths o the Bible.

Tis would also be a ministry where we areprovoked to grow spiritually with ellowbelievers o the same age group. It is a placewhere we learn rom those who are spirituallymore mature than us; where we learn tosharpen one another in the aith; where weexercise our spiritual gits and learn to leadyounger ones by our examples.

Tank God or the Youth Fellowship o ourChurch. Keep up the good work or our Lord.

Dear YFersTo know Christ and to make Him Known

Tis was and has been YFs motto all theseyears. On reection, it is a good theme tohave, especially through our youth.

Tis is true as many o us may be saved in ourteenage years and ater our salvation, we needto know Christ to pursue Christ. o grow in

Christ and gain more knowledge in His Wordso that it would be our anchor through thebusy working years ahead.

Ater knowing Christ, we can share thisknowledge with others by telling them thegood news that would save their souls.

My YF years were blessed ones. Tey involved

reading Gods Word, memorising verses, researching and understanding doctrines, tracting, mission trips and not orgettingellowship and riendships. Tey were busy, useul and happy years or the LORD.

May YF continue to abound and your YFyears the best years to know Christ and tomake Him known.

During a recent YAF meeting, the speakermentioned that perhaps 80% o young peoplewho grow up in church leave the church orone reason or another. Chee Meng turned tome and gave me a knowing look. As Iscrolled through my memory, I realised thatthe percentage might not have been that highbut it was signicant.

Ask any o the older YFers and they wouldbe able to recount young men and womenlike yourselves who have grown up in church, perhaps gone overseas, or just drited away

due to work or amily commitments.

I have been very blessed to be part o the YFand have made many strong riendships in YF.People like Chee Meng, Adrian and Dn Jamesgrew up with me, and we eventually transitedto YAF.

In YF, my riends were there with methroughout the key phases in my lie like Olevels, Polytechnic and National Service. Forthat, Im grateul.

As the old adage goes youth is a blunder, manhood a struggle, old age a regret. Its hardto disagree with such wisdom, and true to thesaying, Ive had my share o youthul blundersas much as struggles in my current phase omanhood. Coming to YF however was not ablunder; in act, it was one o the best choicesthat I have made.

About 15 years ago, back when the eensDepartment was correctly spelt in contrast

to todays eenz, mysel and 2 other riends,Stanley an and Grace Yong made anagreement to come together or YF. We oundthe people to be warm, the ellowship sweet, and the spiritual ood meaty. Ever since then,YF has been a regular eature on my calendarevery Saturday evening till I transited to

Whoelse better to guide you through the portals ojunior college, the rite o passage o NationalService, the complexities o BGR than ellowyouths who have had the benet o hindsightand are equipped with the wisdom to givesound, godly advice?

It was at one o the YF camps where Icame to know the Lord. Te camp themeon Revelations made me seriously ponderwhether I would be let behind when Jesusreturns again despite all the years I had spentin church. It was through the YF that Islowly began to understand deeper doctrines

the resurrection o Christ, the rinity, the second coming o Christ, etc. I learntproper Christian conduct rom observing andlearning rom spiritually mature brothers andsisters. I learnt why it was necessary to keepa good testimony or Christ. I learnt howto pray. I learnt the meaning o keeping mypersonal quiet time with the Lord.

At YF, each was his brothers keeper. Onseveral occasions, I was lovingly rebuked orinappropriate conduct. I thank God or caringbrethren who are concerned or my spiritualwell-being. Encouragement cards were littlepick-me-ups whenever I was going through a

dicult phase in lie. Every little thing whichthe YF provided helped keep me in the straitand narrow path.

Te army phase o my lie was probablythe most dicult time o my lie. I notor the prayers and encouragement o my

Hello everyoneIn this article Im going to talk about twothings. Te rst being why I started to comeor YF again, and the second being what Iappreciate most about the YF.

o answer the rst question, Id rst haveto say that the last time I attended YF with

some semblance o regularity was in 2004.Since then, the Lord has called me elsewhere(CYF, and later on, Sydney), but CPYFhas always elt as i it was my YF: Te YFthat I grew up in, the YF where my riendsare (though not or long more), the placewhere the opportunities to serve were mostabundant, the place where I learnt the mostrom a doctrinal and theological standpoint.

Even as I write and reect on this, I nowrealise that CPYF has played a very importantrole in my spiritual lie, and in my ormativeyears as a Christian. Having realised allthese things now, I cannot really answer thequestion o why I didnt come to YF earlierthis year while nishing National Service!

However, I am glad or the ew months whereI did.

Tere is really no single compelling reasonthat I can write about here to explain howI was ound in the new sanctuary cryroomevery Saturday evening in the months July

through to September. Tere is no argument Icould present to say, my ellow Bloos, whichwould win anyone over to immediately startattending YF again. For YFers who havegone overseas to study or extended periodso time, there is sometimes this phenomenono eeling as i the place we let isnt the same, that we dont t in anymore. In this case Ieel the best thing to do is to persevere and

just attend! Just go to church, just make gooduse o your time or the Lord, just learn moreabout your Saviour who died on the cross oryou, just learn how to live a holy lie or Hissake!

Te onus is not just on the Bloo though. I

I did have a very blessed time attending YFagain, and Ive even picked up a ew practicaltips that Ive ound quite benecial. Forinstance, ever since the messages on prayer,Ive started praying more or others, and also

asking others to pray or me. I I were to talkabout what I appreciate most in the YF, well, iyouve made it this ar into the article you cansee that there are many things I do appreciate.Te one thing that stood out or me this timeround was the ew discussions we had aterthe messages. I elt that the group always dugdeep into the questions, and that there was noshortage o good answers and godly opinions.

When it came to sharing, people shared romtheir hearts with no objective but to ediy. Iwas really very blessed to have been a part oall o it.

On that note, I shall conclude, hoping thatthis article may spur its readers to make themost out o their YF or Christ. CPYF hasplayed such an important role to so many livesin its thirty years, and with Gods help, I knowit will continue to do the same or many moreto come.

ound that the constant ollow-up (not tomention the weekly bible verse smses) rommy group leader played a part in me comingback to YF. In this case peer pressure can bea good thing, and i you ask someone you

know who should be attending YF but isnt, you may just nd him sitting behind you atthe next meeting. It only takes being aithulin the small things, in attending the meetings, and in encouraging others to do the same, orlives to be blessed.

Dear JonathanWords cant describe the joy I have in seeingyou attend your rst YF meeting on the19th o January 2005. While the rst step isalways the hardest and I know that your momhad to etch you to YF to encourage you toattend (you are truly a shao ye), I would like toencourage you with this verse,

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed isthe man that trusteth in him. Psalms 34:8

Allowing YF to be a part o you is truly one othe greatest milestones in your lie. It is herewhere you will be able to grow in grace, and in

the knowledge o our Lord and Savior JesusChrist. It is here where you will learn how toearnestly seek the Lord in prayer. It is herewhere you will meet Christian riends whomyou would grow to love and to cherish (andpossibly take a liking to one o them).Perhaps at that stage o your lie, there will bemany moments when tears o joy will ll your

heart and soul as you continue to have a closerwalk with Christ. However, there are timeswhen these tears o joy may be replaced bytears o sorrow. I wont lie to you; it will hurt. When moments like these come, look notunto men, but remember these three verses,

And as you continue to be a part o YF, therewill be many opportunities to serve the Lord, whether small or big roles. Please dont rely onyour own strengths. Instead, lean entirely uponGod and draw strength rom this trusty pillaro support. In addition, never be complacentin any area o service and remember that while

Dear meHow have you been spending your Saturdayevenings? Its weird that youre not going orYF, especially since you had been attending

eenz so aithully. Now that you havegraduated rom eenz, why arent you movingup and going or YF?

Is it because you are lazy? eenz is on Sundayaternoons, right ater morning worshipservice, so it is easier and more convenient oryou to ollow your parents to and ro church. Now that YF is on Saturday aternoons, it

is denitely harder and more troublesomeor you to get to church and back home. Donot let this be a actor in preventing yourom coming or YF! Should not your loveor Gods Word and the ellowship withlike-minded brethren have enough pull toovercome your laziness in coming or YF?How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? whenwilt thou arise out o thy sleep? Yet a littlesleep, a little slumber, a little olding o thehands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come asone that travelleth, and thy want as an armedman. Prov 6:9-11

Is it because you eel like you do not t in?

You have been quite a loner, even when youwere in eenz. You do not like to step out oyour comort zone, and you pretty much like

to keep to yoursel. But God has remindedus not to orsake the assembling o ourselvestogether, as the manner o some is; but toexhort one another: and so much the more,as ye see the day approaching (Heb 10:25).While I cannot say or sure that you willimmediately warm up to the people in YFand they to you, I can assure you that they dotry to extend their right hand o ellowship

as much as they can! Fellowship takes bothhands to clap. I know they are more thanwilling to make that efort, but how aboutyou? Despite the demeanor o some, they areactually very riendly people! Are you araidthat we may not have common topics to talkabout? How can that be, i I may borrowwords rom a popular YF song - when wehave a common love or each other, a commongit to the Saviour, a common bond holdingus to the Lord, a common strength when weare weary, a common hope or tomorrow and acommon joy in the truth o Gods Word?

require your attention more than YF? I knowsometimes you have homework to nish, butthen it should not take up every Saturday. Iit does, then you ought to re-evaluate yourpriorities, and manage your time accordingly. You could play ewer computer games, orspend less time on the television. We areto set our afection on things above, not onthings on the earth! (Col 3:2) And Matt6:19-21 reminds us, Lay not up or yourselvestreasures upon earth, where moth and rustdoth corrupt, and where thieves break throughand steal: But lay up or yourselves treasuresin heaven, where neither moth and rust doth

corrupt, and where thieves do not breakthrough and steal: For where your treasure is,there will your heart be also.

What do you place rst in your lie - heavenlythings or earthly things? Tat being said, donot start neglecting your studies or YF, or weare also called to be good Christian students;to bear a good testimony even in our schools.

Te point here is to pray or the ability to setyour priorities right and manage your timewisely or the right things, or to every thingthere is a season, and a time to every purposeunder the heaven (Ecc 3:1).

YFs age limit is 25. ime and tide wait orno man, and denitely not or you. You maybe young now, but one day you will look backand regret not cherishing the opportunitiesyou currently have to come or YF. Tey saythat it is common to only cherish things whenthey are gone. But the Bible says, See thenye walk circumspectly, not as ools, but aswise, Redeeming the time, because the daysare evil. Eph 5:15-16. Remember nowthy Creator in the days o thy youth, whilethe evil days come not, nor the years drawnigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasurein them; Eccl 12:1. Will you only start

thinking about onlywhen it is too late?

I pray and hope that the Lord will moveyour heart to come or YF. Tere are manyprecious lessons rom Gods Word to uncover, and many riendships to be made with ellowbrothers and sisters. Will you come to YF thisSaturday?

Dear BrianI write to you now with the benet ohindsight, having experienced our blessedyears in the Youth Fellowship. And I write toyou knowing ull well the reasons that have

prevented you rom attending it or any otherellowship group earlier. It is my dearest wishthat you will not throw these words aside, hard though some o them may be, but cometo realise that there is a huge void in your liethat nothing but God can ll.

I am sure that you already know some o thisto be true, even i you dont act on it. How

much time have you spent on games andbooks and writing, trying to nd some senseo ullment? Your Saturdays are all virtuallyspent completing endless quests in thingslike World o Warcrat, and the in-betweenhours are spent daydreaming about booksand other worlds. And yet ater all that, youeel incomplete. Dissatised. Tere is alwayssomething more to reach or, another goal toachieve, another book to read. And by nowyou should begin to eel the utility o it all.Ecclesiastes 12:8 reads, Vanity o vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. You need onlylook into your heart to know that the senseo ullment in playing games, writing stories

and adding books to your shelves is a eetingone that has no meaning in eternity.

Which is why you attend church on Sundays.

Its a start, but what use is it when all thatmeans is that you are a Sunday Christian, apew-warmer who comes and goes with therst and last hymn? Tanks to the soundpreaching, you may know the doctrines, youmay know the dos and donts, but what useis all that head knowledge i you live a liethat is separate rom ellow believers? Andwhat does it say about you when a breakdown

o how you spend your time shows that youvalue the things o the world more than thethings o God? You know the verse Romans12:1, I beseech you thereore, brethren, by themercies o God, that ye present your bodiesa living sacrice, holy, acceptable unto God,which is your reasonable service. You claim tobe o Christ have you done what is said inthe verse?

Like what Elvin once told me, i you wouldcommit yoursel to God, to attend YF or atleast 4 weeks, to take part in the ellowshipactivities, to stay or discussions, or dinners,to serve the Lord together etc; slowly, you willrealise that there is abundant joy in attendingYF! When you rst nd much joy in the

Lord, you will nd much joy in the thingsaround you, in the riends that God has placedin your lie.

Yeahyeahyeah! Tat is why Christ tells us toseek ye rst the kingdom o God, and his

righteousness; (Matthew 6:33)! I you arenot willing to take the rst step, to take theinitiative to come or YF then how can thepeople around you ever get to know you? DearSu Ling, I understand that taking the rststep is not an easy task but I do pray you willnd much courage in the Lord and come to

experience the blessings rom this ministrywhich God has aithully sustained over thepast 30 years!! Wow, so long! :D

Te second reason is I have got no time!!Tat is right, when do we ever nd that we

6, PSLE was everything. When I was inSecondary Four, O levels was everything. And when I was in JC2, A levels waseverything. Now I am in university, my examevery semester can be everything! I I dont

work hard and I dont do well, I will acecriticism rom my amily, I wont be able toget into a school I want, to take a courseI like, to nd a good job, to earn enoughmoney and wow, actually the list is neverending. Sometimes Im quite amazed at thenumber o excuses I can come up with. Yes Ido believe in Gods providence BU I havevery important human responsibilities too!

Dear Su Ling, that is right I guess. However, there must always be a balance somewhere. You know that to grow in the grace andknowledge o our Lord takes time, takesefort and it takes lots o hard work to searchthe scripture. Dont indulge in your academicgrowth at the expense o your spiritual

growth, please. We are rst Christians, thenstudents. Every role that we play must bepleasing to God. I hope that you will manageyour time better and come or YF. Come andexperience or yoursel the joy o hearingGods word and being partakers o oneanothers grace!

impediments: the ear o loneliness whengoing to YF, the emphasis given to studiesabove God and the objections or ratherpersuasion o my mum to miss a YF meetingevery Saturday I have come to treasure YF.

You never know i you have another Saturdayto attend YF. reasure each YF every Saturdaythat God has lovingly given you, that youmay study the mind o our God and whatHe wants you to know through our aithulspeakers! Study hard as unto the Lord romMonday all the way to Saturday, and try to setaside every Saturday evening or the Lord orYF. Tats all I can do, that is to persuade andencourage you to attend YF. May the HolySpirit continue to work in your heart to giveyou the desire to study Gods Word and haveellowship! And even as you start (or continueto) attend YF, dont lose the ocus o why youhave chosen to give your time to God everySaturday in the rst place! Imbibe GodsWord in your heart!

Why do you come or YF?

Im sure all o you have been blessed in oneway or another by the YF. Te Christian walkis not an easy one. Te narrow way to thestrait gates o Heaven will, on many occasions,

seem so impossible. But when you knowthere are others along this same walk, there iscomort.

Never underestimate the importance andsignicance o a good Christian ellowship in

your lie. Some have come to salvation whilein the YF (I came to know the Lord duringone o the YF camps). Many have had theiraith strengthened while in the YF. Othersbeen convicted to give up pet sins while inthe YF. But even ater witnessing so many

blessed by God through the YF, there are stillmany who end up alling out o YF due tomany reasons. Many o them are currentlybacksliding as they are really missing out onso much o the blessings that are ound in theYF.

    The Purpose

    of Fellowship

The Purpose of Fellowship 57No man can serve two masters: or either hewill hate the one and love the other; or else he

will hate the one, and love the other; or else hewill hold to the one, and despise the other. Yecannot serve God and mammon.Matthew 6:24

So why do you come or YF? I the primaryreason is not because o the desire to serveGod and to seek him, you may one day ndyoursel detached rom the YF and not comeany more. I you are coming or YF becauseyou have nothing else to do on Saturday night, then you may stop coming or YF once youhave more happening activities. I you arecoming or YF because o someone you like,

then you could stop coming or YF once thisperson gets attached to someone else. Whenthat happens, youll be part o the group whowill be missing out on the many blessingswhich the YF has to ofer.

So what should not be your main drive orcoming to YF?

    - For un and games- Nothing else to do on Saturday nights- Te people in YF are riendly and loving- Great ood- Tere is someone I like in the YF- My girlriend/boyriend is in the YF- Te nice songs diferent rom those in

    - Te speakers are vibrant and dynamic- All my close riends are there

    - Its near my home- Because my parents tell me so

    - o widen my social/business circle- Te YF needs me- I have no idea

Without swinging to the extreme case wherethe YF turns apostate, there may be someaspects o YF, over time, which may not be asappealing to you as when you rst joined theYF. I you have always been seeking God rst

when coming or YF, you will still be able tond much joy in coming or YF even whenYF changes over the years.

So remember these two things:1. God has a purpose or your coming to theYF.2. And Satan will try his best to undermine

your reason or staying in the YF.

And now ask yoursel, why do you really come or YF?

Te Setting: An online maa game onFacebook, conducted via a group discussionthread. In brie, the game is Maa vs. own, similar to the polar bear game many o usare amiliar with. Players with special roleswould have to send in their night actions tothe moderator according to what their rolesdictate (e.g. Maa lynching a town member, detective investigating another player, etc.)during the night phase when the town issleeping.

Apparently, Lim Zhongyan had a town-aligned protective role in this game. Sadly, heblew his own cover.
