This directory has been designed to serve as a reference guide to the history, criteria and nominating process for USTA Florida awards. In addition it is an aid to those wishing to nominate deserving USTA Florida volunteers and organizations for these prestigious awards. The nominating process will be done online this year. Please visit the USTA Florida Website at www.ustaflorida.com to obtain an official nomination ballot. Nominations will only be accepted electronically. ADULT SERVICE AWARDS

Hall of Fame ELIGIBILITY: Person(s) in a tennis related field that meet (s) the criteria. CRITERIA: This award is established to recognize our members, players and non-members, whose contributions and achievements for many years are worthy of the highest recognition. On even years the candidate has an extensive list of accomplishments while residing in and representing Florida. The accomplishments were achieved in volunteer work at the local, state and national level and are worthy of the highest recognition. On odd years the candidate has an extensive list of playing accomplishments while residing in and representing Florida. These accomplishments were achieved in junior or adult tennis, or a combination of both. They include a high level of accomplishments in the following junior and/or adult areas:

• High Florida Sectional Rankings • High USTA Rankings • Sectional Championships • National Championships • World Rankings • Representing Florida on Sectional Teams • Representing the USTA on National Teams • Representing the USTA in Davis Cup, Federation Cup and/or Olympics • Playing accomplishments in Grand Slam Events • Playing accomplishments in International Tournaments

ADULT SERVICE AWARDS

Female Merit Award ELIGIBILITY: A female in tennis related fields that meet the criteria. CRITERIA: This award is presented to a person who has been, through her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation, most deserving of the respect and honor of all volunteers, either in play or organizational work for having made the greatest contribution to tennis in Florida during the past years. HISTORY: This award, given from the beginning of Florida Lawn Tennis Association, was originally named the J E “Doc” Webb Award, after the Florida Entrepreneur extraordinaire and tennis enthusiast from St Petersburg. He played weekly at Bartlett Park and attained a 1955 USTA Florida Senior Doubles Ranking #4 with partner Jack Staton. The trophy housed at the USTA Florida office is inscribed with his name. SELECTION PROCESS: The Executive Committee selects the recipient. The President’s Award used to be called the Outstanding Service Award. It was presented at the Annual Meeting from 1993 through 1997. **The winners below were honored prior to the change of the award. In September 2003 the award was renamed the Edward A. Turville award in the memory of our first President.

Tennis Family of the Year ELIGIBILITY: This award honors a family who has contributed the most by promoting tennis at all levels of participation. CRITERIA: 1. Each family member must be a member of the

USTA. 2. The family must be active in volunteering in some or

all of the following: Serving as a volunteer in fostering tennis at any level of the USTA in such activities as conducting tournaments, developing and/or sustaining junior and adult programs, holding office(s) of the various levels of the USTA, volunteer coaching, competing in tennis and enriching the game in other related activities.

3. Families previously nominated may be re-submitted.

SELECTION PROCESS: The Executive Committee selects the recipient. The Florida Section nominates the winner of this award for the Ralph W. Westcott USTA Family of the Year Award. Volunteer Service ELIGIBILITY: Any volunteer serving USTA Florida. CRITERIA: This recognition is presented to a volunteer who has contributed a minimum of five years of service to USTA Florida. SELECTION PROCESS: All volunteers in USTA Florida database, based on Volunteer Profile forms, updated annually and then reviewed by the Awards Committee as to each volunteer’s number of years of service will be selected. USTA Florida Media Excellence Award ELIGIBILITY: Any print or electronic journalist from newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, including freelance reporters, in Florida. CRITERIA: This award is presented annually in recognition for excellence in informing the tennis community and general public about state and local tennis news. SELECTION PROCESS: The Media Award Committee selects the recipient(s). HISTORY: This award used to be called the Jim Martz Media Award from 1995 through 2007. Prior to that time it was called the "Barnett Award for Excellence in Tennis Writing”. It was presented at the Annual Meeting from 1976 through 1980. A plaque was presented that said: "Barnett Banks of Florida honors _____ as Florida's Outstanding Tennis Writer for _____.” At that time, there were also runner-up plaques presented. **The winners below were honored prior to the change of the award. COMPETITIVE TENNIS AWARDS

Bobby Curtis Junior Tournament of the Year

ELIGIBILITY: Any junior tournament or event sanctioned through USTA Florida. Tournaments on the National Schedule and tournaments that receive staff assistance with player selection, scheduling and overall tournament administration are excluded. CRITERIA: This award is presented to an event which has shown excellent qualities in all facets of tournament administration including; accommodations for players, draw and seeding procedure, scheduling, and adherence to junior tournament regulations.
