DESKTOP GUIDE USING TURNITIN’S GRADEMARK TOOL TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK AND MARK

By using GradeMark to provide feedback on student assignments, you can eliminate downloading and uploading (as well as printing and scanning) from your assignment marking workflow.

These steps cover leaving feedback comments on the assignment document itself (as ‘bubble’ and/or ‘text’ comments), as well as leaving overall feedback and assigning a mark with GradeMark. N.B.: You can only use GradeMark with a Turnitin assignment that has generated a Turnitin Originality Report.

From your unit homepage: Click on the Dropbox tool in the navbar. Click on the name of the assignment you wish to mark.

Select Evaluate submission to open and view the assignment submission.

Click on the name of the assignment you wish to mark and then click Markup Document.

Check that the GradeMark section is selected at the top of the page that opens. The assignment may open in a new tab / window.

To leave a bubble comment on the document: Check that the Bubble Comment icon is selected (on the right). Select / highlight the text you wish to comment on.

To avoid seeing this every time, select Remember.

Use a headset microphone to record your overall comments. Click on the Stop recording button when you have finished.

Click on the Save recording button.

To assign a mark: Click on the double line next to the originality percentage and type in the mark for the assignment.

N.B.: GradeMark only allows you to enter a numeric mark above zero*. If you wish students to see a letter mark only, please refer to the Desktop Guide, UTAS Letter Grades For Assessments.

To send the Mark to Dropbox & Grade Book: Return to the MyLO Evaluate Submission page by clicking its tab at the top and click on the Refresh icon. Click on Use this score. The mark will now appear in the Score box. Finally, click on the Save Draft button.

To block students from viewing comments until release: Edit the Dropbox folder and uncheck Allow submitters to see Originality Reports.

When ready to publish assignments and marks, this box will need to be checked.

*If this is left blank, the GradeMark icon will not appear to students so they will be unable to access GradeMark in this way. They will only be able to access their feedback through GradeMark by clicking on their Originality Report.
