WHAT IS LAMS?
• Learning Activity Management System– Developed in Australia at Macquarie
University by Prof James Dalziel• Limitations of monolothic VLEs
– Transmission model
– Content v Process view of education
– Vendors confident sector not looking for changes
– Showcased in February 2003• Trialled (with DfES support) in May 2003
– JISC project began September 2004– LAMS became OpenSource Feb 2005
Why use LAMS?
• Focus on pedagogy, not technology• Easy to develop sequences
– Modification for re-use– Develop “bank” of sequences– Encourage sharing of expertise as well as content
• Runs as a web application• Flexibility for the teacher
– short chunks through to longer sequences• Variety of tools
– Collaboration– Monitoring– Testing– Survey
