ICT in Key Stage 1ICT in Key Stage 1

During Key Stage 1 children should be given opportunities to develop their skills under the following headings:-

finding things out;

developing ideas and making things happen;

exchanging and sharing information;

reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses.

They should also be given opportunities to apply and develop their ICTcapability through the use of ICT tools to support their learning in allSubjects.

Learning PlatformsLearning Platforms

Learning Platforms are secure online sites that can be accessed in school or at home, using secure individual log ons, allowing

teachers to track each individual's learning.

Children are able to work at a level of ability that meets their needs whilst exploring the activities set by the teacher.

The National Curriculum (1999) states that ‘during key stage 1 pupils explore ICT and learn to use it confidently and with purpose to achieve specific outcomes. They start to use ICT to develop their ideas and record their creative work. They become familiar with hardware and software’.

The majority of pupils are expected to be working within the levels 1 – 3

The expected attainment level at the end of key stage 1 is level 2
