Organized 6 international conferences and 22 Conversations on global security

Brought 72 speakers to USF including:

10 Former Ambassadors

2 Pulitzer Prize winners and 2 columnists for the New York Times and Washington Post

40 Leading Experts and Academics

20 Government Officials and Policy Makers

3,300 Students, faculty, and members of the community attended the events

Student-Engagement Achievements

A Graduate Certificate in Global Strategy & Decision Making (in collaboration with the Patel College of Sustainability) was approved in 2016

A two-year Global Conversation Series Program, fully funded by USF

Student Government ($100,000), began in 2016

1 CSDS Charitable Scholarship of $1,500 was awarded to a USF student; independent studies for credit were offered to USF students

2 internships offered to USF undergraduate students

28 USF classes attended CSDS events

1 visiting scholar from the Australian National University was accepted to join the Center at no cost to USF

The CSDS plays an important role in making our university a globally-engaged institution. We conduct cutting-edge research about global challenges and increase student and faculty awareness. We have organized conferences in collaboration with the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver and with the Near East South Asia [NESA] Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. Our activities have reached the global stage and increased our university’s academic reputation and international visibility.

KAREN A. HOLBROOK, PhDSr. Advisor to the President at the University of South Florida. Prior to this position, she was Senior Vice President for Global Affairs and International Research at USF.

THE HONORABLE RAYMOND O. GROSSis Chair of the CSDS Advisory Board, Retired Circuit Judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida (1995-2014).

REAR ADMIRAL JON W. BAYLESS, JR.United States Navy (Ret), is a consultant to the Aerospace and Defense Industry, with a 31-year career in which he held six different commands.

ROBERT T. WILHITEis a retired senior banking executive. He served for 12 years as a Trustee of Bethune-Cookman College in Florida and as an Executive Committee member and Chair of the Finance Committee.
