What Devices Can I Control?The four mode keys arched across the top of theremote tell the remote which device you want tooperate.

Each mode key is associated with different types ofdevices. You can use each mode key to control one ofits associated devices:

Welcome to the UltimateControl Experience!Your new AT6400™ AllTouch® Infrared (IR)Universal Remote Control (remote) is a trueuniversal remote, functioning as four remotes inone. As one example, you can use this remote tooperate your set-top box, your TV, and two other

devices, such as a DVD player and VCR.

Important Information AboutYour RemoteYour remote is initially programmed to onlyoperate your set-top box. Therefore, you mustprogram the remote to operate your TV, VCR,or other devices. See Program the Remote toControl My Devices to learn how to enterdevice codes and program your remote.

Note: You must use the IR remote within line ofsight of the set-top box to operate theset-top box correctly.

How Does A Universal RemoteControl Work?You tell the remote which type of device youwant to operate using the four keys archedacross the top of the remote. These keys, knownas mode keys, are labeled STB, TV, DVD, andAUX. Each mode key is associated with a specificdevice. As an example, after programming theremote, if you want the remote to operate yourTV, you simply press the TV key. Other keys youpress on the remote, thereafter, should operateyour TV. Want to switch the remote to operate adifferent device? Just press the mode key for thenext device you want to operate. In this guide, youwill learn which types of devices you can controland how to program the remote to control yourspecific devices.

Quick Reference

Where Do I Start?Before you begin using your remote, complete thefollowing initial setup tasks.

Install the BatteriesThe remote requires two AA batteries (alkalinerecommended). A diagram in the battery compartmentof the remote indicates proper placement of thebatteries. When batteries are properly installed, thelight on the remote blinks each time a key is pressed.

Visit the Quick Reference SectionUse the Quick Reference section of this guide tofamiliarize yourself with the remote and the functionsof its various keys. Knowing the function and locationof the keys on the remote will assist you when youare programming the remote.

Program the RemoteTo learn how to program your remote, refer to thesections What Devices Can I Control, What DevicesDo I Want to Control, and Program the Remote toControl My Devices for further instructions.

Find a Place to Store Your RemoteKeeping up with one remote is much easier thankeeping up with four or five remotes. However, it isstill a good idea to find a storage location for yourremote. The AT6400 is not a toy. It should be kept

out of the reach of children under the age of 6 years.

Program the Remoteto Control My DevicesYour remote is initially programmed to only operateyour set-top box. You will need to set up the remote tooperate your other devices using its TV, DVD, and AUXmodes. The TV key may be programmed to operate astandard or high-definition television (HDTV). TheDVD key may be programmed to operate a DVD player.

The AUX key may be programmed to operate a VCR,a receiver, an amplifier, or an HTIB system. If theremote provides only limited functionality for a device,you can look for a code that provides more functionality.Refer to the code tables at the end of this guide locateadditional codes to program your remote.

Note: You have the option to assign some remote keysto operate one device type only. For example, you maywant to assign volume control to the TV only. If this isthe case, you can reprogram power, volume, and channelcontrol using procedures found later in this guide.

Assigning a Device Code to a Mode Key1. Refer to the code tables at the end of this guide to

locate the information for the device you want toprogram.

Note: If your device is not listed, you may be able toprogram the remote using the Auto-Search function.Go to What If None of the Codes Work forinstructions.

2. Turn on the device that you want to assign to amode key.

3. Press and hold the appropriate mode key (TV, DVD,or AUX) on the remote, and then press and hold theOK key.

4. Release both keys and the mode keys will flash twice.

5. Enter the first 4-digit setup code for the device usingthe number keys (0-9) on the remote. The mode keywill flash three times to indicate that the code entrywas accepted.

Notes:• When an invalid code is entered, the selected

mode key will display a long flash to indicate thatyou have not entered the code correctly.

• Should the remote time-out before you completethe code setup, you will need to start over. This isindicated by one long flash of the red LED.

6. Point the remote at the device, and press POWERto test the device.

7. Did the device power off?

• If yes, write down the code that worked on thecover of this guide. You may need it again if thedevice code is accidentally erased.

• If no, repeat this procedure from step 3 using adifferent setup code.

Note: If none of the codes listed for your brandof device operate the device correctly, go toWhat If None of the Codes Work forinstructions.

8. Repeat this procedure for each mode key you wantto program.

What If None of the Codes Work?If none of the codes listed for your brand of deviceoperate the device correctly, or if your device is notlisted in the codes table, you can use the Auto-Searchfunction to search through the code library for a validcode. This section provides a procedure for using theAuto-Search function to search the code library for TVor DVD mode codes as well as a procedure for usingthe Auto-Search function to search for AUX modecodes.

Note: Read the procedures in this section thoroughlybefore beginning. You need to be prepared to observethe behavior of the remote.

Auto-Search FeaturesConsider the following items when using Auto-Search:

• The Auto-Search function begins searching from thefirst code.

• If a valid code is not found, the green backlight willflash twice and the remote will return to normaloperation.

• If any other key is pressed except PLAY, ENTER,POWER, EXIT, REW, FF, or NUMBER KEYS 1through 4 (when programming the AUX mode key),the mode key will display a long red flash (errormessage) and the remote returns to normal operation.

• Should the remote time-out before you completethe Auto-Search function you will need to start over.This is indicated by one long red flash of the redLED.

• If the device is not listed and the Auto-Searchfunction is unable to find a usable code, you mayneed to use the original remote provided with thedevice.

Auto-Searching the Code Library forTV or DVD Mode Codes(Program Code 922)Note: This procedure will not work for devices otherthan TVs or DVDs.

1. Turn on the device you that you want to assign tothe TV or DVD key.

2. Point the remote at the device.

3. Press and while holding a selected mode key (TVor DVD), press the OK key. For example, to searchfor a TV code, press and hold TV and OK at thesame time.

4. Release both keys and all the mode keys will blinktwice.

5. Enter the programming code 9 2 2 by pressing thenumber keys on the remote. The mode key youselected in step 3 blinks twice indicating asuccessful entry.

6. Point the remote toward the device, and press andhold PLAY. The remote automatically tests eachcode in its library, beginning with the most commoncodes.

7. Without releasing the PLAY key, observe the device.When a usable code is found, the device will respondby turning off. As soon as the device powers off,release the PLAY key to temporarily pause the auto-search function until you choose one of the followingactions:

• Save code and exit – Press the ENTER key onthe remote to program the code in the remoteand the mode key will flash three timesindicating successful entry.

• Step forward – Press the fast-forward (FF) keyon the remote to step ahead through the codesone at a time. Then, return to step 6.

• Step backward – Press the rewind (REW) keyon the remote to step back through the codes oneat a time. Then, return to step 6.

• Exit without saving the code – Press the EXITkey on the remote. The selected mode key willflash three times and return to normal operation.

• Send the current code – Press the POWER keyon the remote to send the current code. If thedevice turns back on, press the ENTER key. Ifthe device does not turn on, return to step 6.

• Continue with auto-search function – Press thePLAY key on the remote to continue with theauto-search function. Then, return to step 6.

Auto-Searching the Code Library forAUX Mode Codes (Program Code 922)1. Turn on the device that you want to assign to the

AUX key.

2. Point the remote at the device.

3. Press and while holding the AUX key, press theOK key.

4. Release both the AUX key and the OK key and allthe mode keys will blink twice.

5. Enter the programming code 9 2 2 by pressing thenumber keys on the remote. The AUX key blinkstwice indicating a successful entry.

6. Press the PLAY key, choose one of the followingdevice categories and then, using the number keyson the remote, press its assigned number (1 – 4)based on the following list:1 = VCRs2 = Receiver/Tuners3 = Amplifiers4 = HTIB

Note: The device categories are number-coded toprovide a more direct programming method.

7. Point the remote toward the device, and press andhold PLAY. The remote automatically tests each codein its library, beginning with the most common codes.

8. Without releasing the PLAY key, observe the device.When a usable code is found, the device will respondby turning off. As soon as the device powers off, releasethe PLAY key to temporarily pause the auto-searchfunction until you choose one of the followingactions:

• Save code and exit – Press the ENTER key onthe remote to program the code in the remote andthe mode key will flash three times indicatingsuccessful entry.

• Step forward – Press the fast-forward (FF) keyon the remote to step ahead through the codesone at a time. Then, return to step 7.

• Step backward – Press the rewind (REW) keyon the remote to step back through the codes oneat a time. Then, return to step 7.

• Exit without saving the code – Press the EXITkey on the remote. The selected mode key willflash three times and return to normal operation.

• Send the current code – Press the POWER keyon the remote to send the current code. If thedevice turns back on, press the ENTERkey. If thedevice does not turn on, return to step 7.

• Continue with auto-search function – Press thePLAY key on the remote to continue with theauto-search function. Then, return to step 7.

Reassign Mode KeysYou can reassign a mode key to operate a differentdevice. For example, you can reassign the AUX key tooperate a DVD player or a TV. If you reassign a key,be sure you update the table found earlier in thisguide.

Reassigning Mode Keys(Program Code 944)1. Press and hold the STB mode key on the remote.

2. Without releasing the STB key, press and hold theOK key.

3. Release both the keys and all mode keys will flashtwice.

4. Enter the programming code 9 4 4 by pressing thenumber keys on the remote. The STB mode keyblinks twice indicating a successful entry.

5. Press and release the mode key associated with thetype of device you want to control, and then pressand release the mode key that you want to change.The newly assigned mode key blinks one timeindicating a successful entry.

Some common examples:• To program the AUX key to operate your DVD

player, press DVD and then AUX.• To program the DVD key to operate your TV,

press TV and then DVD.

Change Volume ControlBy default, once the TV mode key has been programmedwith a valid code, the volume and mute buttons willalways control your TV. They will adjust the volume ofyour TV higher, lower, or temporarily switch the volumeoff (Mute), regardless of whether the remote is in STB,TV, DVD, or AUX mode.

If you prefer, you can choose to have the volume andmute buttons always control a different device ratherthan your TV, such as a home theater receiver. (SeeControlling Volume for One Device below.) Notethat you must first program one of the mode keys,such as AUX, with a valid code for that device.

Alternatively, you can choose to have the volume andmute buttons control different devices when theremote is in different modes. For example, you mightwant to control the volume on your TV when in TVmode, but the volume on your home theater receiverwhen in AUX mode. (See Controlling Volume forDifferent Devices below.) Note that not all deviceshave volume controls, so if you choose this option, thevolume and mute buttons may do nothing in somemodes, such as STB and DVD.

LED IndicatorsThere are red LEDs underneath each of the four modekeys (STB, TV, DVD, and AUX) that flash each timea key is pressed to show which device the key iscurrently controlling.

There are also green LEDs that illuminate severalkeys whenever the remote is in use. They stayilluminated for a short time after a key is pressed.

During programming, if the remote times out beforeyou complete the code setup, you will need to startover. This is indicated by one long flash of the redLED.

What Devices Do I Want toControl?To help you keep track of the devices you want tocontrol, list the type of devices you have (includingbrand) in the following table. Then, use the code tablesat the end of this guide to locate the codes for yourdevice. For example, look under TV Group if youneed to program the remote to operate your TV. Ifyou have two devices that use the same key, youmust reassign the TV, DVD, or the AUX key. TheSTB key cannot be reassigned. Go to ReassignMode Keys. Otherwise, go to Program theRemote to Control My Devices for additionalinstructions.

4. Enter the programming code 9 5 5 by pressing thenumber keys on the remote. The STB mode keysblinks twice indicating a successful entry.

5. Press and release the mode key for the device youwant the volume keys to control. For example, ifyou want to control volume through your TV, pressand release TV. The selected mode key blinks threetimes indicating a successful entry.

The volume keys now control only one device whetheryou are in STB, TV, DVD, or AUX mode.

Controlling Volume for DifferentDevices (Program Code 955)1. Complete steps 1 through 4 of the previous

procedure.

2. Press and release the Enter key. The STB mode keyblinks three times indicating a successful entry.

After you press the Enter key, the volume keys controlthe device assigned to that mode. For example, in TVmode, the volume keys control volume for the TV only.

Notes:

• If any other key is pressed except the Mode keysand the ENTER key, the remote will not accept anychanges or updates. The STB mode key will displaya long red flash and the remote returns to normaloperation.

• If the remote times out before you completeprogramming volume control, the remote will notaccept any changes. You will have to start over fromstep 1 of this procedure.

Change Channel ControlThe remote is set by default to control channelselection on the set-top. You can also program channelcontrol to control any of the TV, DVD,or AUX mode devices provided the device allows forchannel control assignment. Or, you can set thechannel selection control programming to controlchannels (or page up or down) for all of the devicesprogrammed in the four mode keys. Otherwise, youwill only be able to control channels (or page up ordown) on a specific device, for example, the TV orDVD.

Note: The channel control keys include CH / Page,Jump, and the number keys 0 through 9.

Controlling Channels for One Device(Program Code 966)1. Press and hold the STB mode key on the remote.




5. Press and release the mode key for the device youwant the channel key to control. For example, if youwant to control channels on your TV, press andrelease TV. The selected mode key blinks three timesindicating a successful entry.

The channel key now always controls the deviceassociated with the mode you selected in this step,whether in STB, TV, DVD, or AUX mode.

Controlling Channels for DifferentDevices (Program Code 966)1. Complete steps 1 through 4 of the previous procedure.

2. Press and release the Enter key. The STB mode keyblinks three times indicating a successful entry.

After you press the Enter key, the channel key nowcontrols the device associated with the mode key youselect. For example, in TV mode, the channel keycontrols the TV, but in STB mode, the channel keycontrols the set-top box.

Notes:


• If the remote times out before you completeprogramming channel selection control, the remotewill not accept any changes. You will have to startover from step 1 of this procedure.

Change Power ControlThe POWER button on the remote is set by default tocontrol the power switch on one device at a time,depending on the mode (STB, TV, DVD, or AUX).When in STB mode, the remote will switch the set-topfrom OFF (standby mode) to ON, or from ON to OFF(standby mode). However, you can alternativelyprogram the POWER button to control the powerswitch on up to four devices at the same time, insteadof controlling one device at a time. It is highlyrecommended that you set up the Power button to turnon and off your set-top and your TV at the same time.Turning off the set-top saves electricity and extendsthe life of the box. When turned off, the set-top boxcan still record scheduled programs on its DVR andperform any other necessary functions.

Controlling Power for MultipleDevices at Once (Program Code 977)1. Press and hold the STB mode key on the remote.




5. For the first device, press the STB key. The STBmode key blinks twice.

6. For the second device, press the applicable modekey (TV, DVD, or AUX). The selected mode keyblinks twice.

7. Repeat step 6 for up to two more devices (total offour devices).

8. Press the ENTER key to complete the power switchcontrol programming. The last selected mode keyblinks 3 times indicating a successful entry.

Example: In an example scenario where you pressonly TV in steps 6 and 7, the POWER key will alwayscontrol both the set-top and the TV at the same time,regardless of which mode the remote is in (STB, TV,DVD, or AUX).

Controlling Power for One Device at aTime (Program Code 977)1. Complete steps 1 through 4 of the previous

procedure.

2. Press the ENTER key to complete the power switchcontrol programming. The last selected mode keyblinks 3 times indicating a successful entry.

After you select a mode, the POWER key controls thedevice assigned to that mode. For example, in TVmode, the remote controls power for the TV only.

Notes:


• If the remote times out before you completeprogramming power switch control, the remote willnot accept any changes. You will have to start overfrom step 1 of this procedure.

Put It Back the Way I Got ItYou can return all advanced functions back to theiroriginal settings by resetting the remote to factorydefault settings. Resetting the remote to factorydefault settings removes all of the programming youhave entered for the remote. You will need toreprogram the remote to restore your original settings.

Resetting the Remote to FactoryDefault Settings (Program Code 900)1. Press and hold the STB mode key on the remote.



4. Enter the programming code 9 0 0 by pressing thenumber keys on the remote. The STB mode keyblinks four times indicating you have successfullyreset the remote to factory default settings.

Notes:

• If any other key is pressed except the number keys,the remote will not accept any changes or updates.The STB mode key will display a long red flashandthe remote returns to normal operation.

• If the remote times out before you complete thefactory default reset procedure, the remote will notaccept any changes. You will have to start overfrom step 1 of this procedure.

TroubleshootingIf there is no response when you press the keys on theremote, please check the following items beforecalling for service.

Check the Batteries• Are the batteries inserted correctly?

• Check the battery condition for leakage.

• Replace with new alkaline batteries.

Check the Device• Is the device’s power cord connected to the power

outlet?

• Is the device switched on?

Check the IR Database Codes ListIs the device brand name for the device listed in thecode list?

• If yes and there is more than one code listed, tryusing a different code to provide more functionality

• If no, try the following:

- Use the Auto-Search function to find a usable code.

- If the Auto-Search function is unable to find ausable code, you may need to use the originalremote provided with the device.

Code TablesIf the remote does not recognize your device, you canfind codes for your device by brand name. Withcombination devices (such as a TV with a built-in DVDplayer), there are separate codes for each devicecomponent. Therefore, for ease of use, the combinationdevice codes are listed first. All other code tables inthis section are organized by the devices assigned toeach mode (TV, DVD, and AUX).
